उ॒षासा॒नक्ता॑ बृह॒ती सु॒पेश॑सा॒ द्यावा॒क्षामा॒ वरु॑णो मि॒त्रो अ॑र्य॒मा । इन्द्रं॑ हुवे म॒रुत॒: पर्व॑ताँ अ॒प आ॑दि॒त्यान्द्यावा॑पृथि॒वी अ॒पः स्व॑: ॥
उ॒षसा॒नक्ता॑ । बृ॒ह॒ती इति॑ । सु॒ऽपेश॑सा । द्यावा॒क्षामा॑ । वरु॑णः । मि॒त्रः । अ॒र्य॒मा । इन्द्र॑म् । हु॒वे॒ । म॒रुतः॑ । पर्व॑तान् । अ॒पः । आ॒दि॒त्यान् । द्यावा॑पृथि॒वी इति॑ । अ॒पः । स्वरिति॑ स्वः॑ ॥
बृहती बृहत्यौ महत्यौ सुपेशसा सुरूपे उषासानक्ता रात्र्युषसौ द्यावाक्षामा द्यावापृथिव्यौ च वरुणो मित्रः मित्रावरुणौ च अर्यमा च येऽत्र विहिता देवाः तानेतान् इन्द्रं मरुतः च पर्वतान् च अपः उदकानि च आदित्यान् च द्यावापृथिवी द्यावापृथिव्यौ च । पुनर्द्यावापृथिव्योर्ग्रहणमादरार्थम् । अपः अन्तरिक्षं च स्वः सर्वं च यष्टव्यं देवजातं हुवे ह्वयामि ॥
“I invoke the vast and beautiful day and night, heaven and earth, Mitra and Varuṇa with Aryaman,Indra, the Maruts, the mountains, the waters, the Ādityas, heaven and earth, the waters (of the firmament), thewhole (host of the gods).”
THERE are the Dawn and Night, the grand and beauteous Pair, Earth, Heaven, and Varuna, Mitra, and Aryaman.
Indra I call, the Maruts, Mountains, and the Floods, Adityas, Heaven and Earth, the Waters, and the Sky.
Dawn and Night, lofty, well-ornamented—Heaven and Earth, Varuṇa, Mitra, Aryaman—
Indra I invoke, the Maruts, the Mountains, the Waters, the Ādityas,
Heaven and Earth, the Waters, the Sun.
Die Nacht und Morgenröthe, die erhabenen, schönen, der Himmel und die Erde, Varuna, Mitra, Arjaman – Den Indra rufe ich, die Berge, die Wasser, die Aditja's, Himmel und Erde, die Wasser, den Himmelsglanz.
Morgen und Nacht, die hohen, schön verzierten, Himmel und Erde, Varuna, Mitra, Aryaman - den Indra lade ich, die Marut, die Berge, die Gewässer, die Aditya´s, Himmel und Erde, das Wasser, die Sonne.

प्रचेतसा सुबुद्धी ऋतावरी यज्ञवत्यौ सत्यवत्यौ द्यौश्च पृथिवी च द्यावापृथिव्यावुभे नः अस्मान् रिषः हिंसकात् अंहसः पापाच्च रक्षताम् । किंच दुर्विदत्रा कुत्सितज्ञाना निर्ऋतिः मृत्युदेवता नः अस्माकं मा ईशत ईश्वरी मा भूत् । किंच वयं देवानां संबन्धि तत् असाधारणम् अवः रक्षणम् अद्य अस्मिन्नहनि प्रधानयागदिवसे वृणीमहे प्रार्थयामहे ॥
“May the intelligent and truthful heaven and earth defend us from sin, and from malignant; let not themalevolent Nirṛti have power over us; we solicit today this protection of the gods.”
May Dyaus and Prthivi, wise, true to Holy Law, keep us in safety from distress and injury.
Let not malignant Nirrti rule over us. We crave to-day this gracious favour of the Gods.
Both Heaven and Earth—let those two discerning truthful ones guard us from narrow straits, from harm.
Let Dissolution, bad to meet, not gain mastery over us. – This help of the gods we choose today.
Der Himmel und die Erde, sie, die heiligen, die weisen mögen schirmen vor des Feindes Drang, Nicht soll beherrschen uns die böse Nirriti, die Gunst der Götter wünschen heute wir herbei.
Himmel und Erde, die weisen, die gesetzmäßigen, sollen uns vor Not und Schaden behüten, Nicht soll das unerbittliche Verderben Macht über uns haben. - Diese Gunst der Götter erbitten wir heute.

रेवतः धनवतः मित्रस्य वरुणस्य च धनवतोर्मित्रावरुणयोः माता जननी अदितिः देवी नः अस्मान् विश्वस्मात् सर्वस्मात् अंहसः पापात् पातु रक्षतु । किंच वयम् अवृकं बाधकरहितं स्वर्वत् सर्वं ज्योतिः तेजः नशीमहि । नशिः पलायनकर्मा । पलायनं च शीघ्रगमनम् । शीघ्रं प्राप्नुम इत्यर्थः । सिद्धमन्यत् ॥
“May Aditi, the mother of the opulent Mitra and Varuṇa, preserve us from all sin, may we hasten tocelestial light, which is free from oppressors; we solicit today this protection of the gods.”
Mother of Mitra and of opulent Varuna, may Aditi preserve us safe from all distress.
May we obtain the light of heaven without a foe. We crave this gracious favour of the Gods to-day.
Let Aditi protect us from every narrow strait—the mother of Mitra and of Varuṇa the wealthy.
Might we attain sun-filled light that keeps the wolf away. – This help of the gods we choose today.
Es schütze uns vor jedem Drangsal Aditi, die Mutter Mitra's und des reichen Varuna; Des Himmels Licht, das holde, werde uns zu Theil, die Gunst der Götter wünschen heute wir herbei.
Vor aller Not soll uns Aditi schützen, die Mutter Mitra´s, Varuna´s, des reichen. Wir möchten das sonnige, gefahrsichere Licht erreichen. - Diese Gunst der Götter erbitten wir heute.

ग्रावा अभिषवपाषाणः वदन् अभिषववेलायां शब्दं कुर्वन् रक्षांसि यागविघ्नकारीणि अप सेधतु विनिवारयतु । दुःस्वप्न्यं दुःस्वप्तप्रभवमस्मदीयमनिष्टं चाप सेधतु । निर्ऋतिं मृत्युदेवतां चाप सेधतु । अत्रिणम् अदनशीलं विश्वं सर्वं पिशाचादिकं चाप सेधतु । एवं निर्विघ्नत्वेन निष्पन्ने यागे वयम् आदित्यम् आदित्यानां संबन्धि मरुतां च संबन्धि शर्म सुखम् अशीमहि प्राप्नुयाम । सिद्धमन्यत् ॥
“May the sounding stone drive away rākṣasas, evil dreams, Nirṛti, and every spirit of ill; may weobtain the happiness of the Ādityas and the Maruts; we solicit today this protection of the gods.”
May ringing press-stones keep the Raksasas afar, ill dream, and Nirrti, and each voracious fiend.
May the Adityas and the Maruts shelter us. We crave this gracious favour of the Gods to-day.
Let the pressing stone as it speaks drive away demonic forces: the bad dream, dissolution, every devourer.
Might we attain the Ādityan shelter and that of the Maruts. – This help of the gods we choose today.
Der Pressstein jage tönend die Gespenster fort, den bösen Traum, Verderben, jeden Fresser-Geist; Der Schutz der Maruts und Aditja's schirme uns, die Gunst der Götter wünschen heute wir herbei.
Der tönende Preßstein soll die Unholde abwehren, den bösen Traum, das Verderben, jeden Atrin. Den Schutz der Aditi, der Marut möchten wir erlangen. - Diese Gunst der Götter erbitten wir heute.
Звучащий давильный камень пусть прогонит прочь ракшасов,
Дурной сон, Гибель, любого атрина!

इन्द्रः बर्हिः आ सीदतु । इळा माध्यमिका स्तनयित्नुलक्षणा वागपि पिन्वतां सिञ्चतु । सामभिः गीयमानः ऋक्वः स्तुतिमान् बृहस्पतिः अपि अर्चतु अस्मान् पूजयतु ।
“May Indra sit down upon the sacred grass; may Iḷā be propitious; may Bṛhaspati the singer hymnedwith Sāmans honour us; we offer an intelligent prayer for life; we solcit today this protection of the gods.”
Full flow libations; on our grass let Indra sit; Brhaspati the singer laud with Sama hymns!
Wise be our hearts' imaginings that we may live. We crave this gracious favour of the Gods to-day.
Let Indra sit here on the ritual grass; let the refreshing drink swell. Let Br̥haspati the chanter chant along with the melodies.
We would compose a thought possessing good signs for our life. – This help of the gods we choose today.
Der Trank sei reichlich, Indra setz sich auf die Streu, Brihaspati, der Sänger, stimme an das Lied, Zum Leben sei uns herrlich unser Andachtslied, die Huld der Götter wünschen, heute wir herbei.
Indra soll sich auf das Barhis setzen, die Opfergabe soll überquellen, Brihaspati, der Sänger, soll nach den Weisen singen. Wir möchten ein Lied von guter Vorbedeutung zu langem Leben dichten. - Diese Gunst der Götter erbitten wir heute.

हे अश्विनौ युवां नोऽस्माकं यज्ञं दिविस्पृशं दिवि स्प्रष्टारं गन्तारं कृणुतं कुरुतम् । तथा जीराध्वरं क्षिप्रं हिंसारहितं च यज्ञमस्माकं कृणुतं कुरुतम् । इष्टये अभिलषितसिद्ध्यर्थं सुम्नं सुखं च कुरुतम् । किंच घृतेन आज्येन आहुतम् अग्निं प्राचीनरश्मिं देवाभिमुखं कुरुतमित्यर्थः । सिद्धमन्यत् ॥
“Aśvins, make our sacriice ascend to heaven free from injury, happy for the attainment of our desires;make the fire to which she is offered blaze up towards (the gods); we solicit today this protection of our gods.”
Ye Asvins, make our sacrifice ascend to heaven, and animate the rite that it may send us bliss,
Offered with holy oil, with forward-speeding rein. We crave the gracious favour of the Gods to-day.
O Aśvins, make our sacrifice heaven-touching and of lively ceremony, to seek favor—
a sacrifice with its reins pointed eastward, bepoured with ghee. – This help of the gods we choose today.
Lasst, Ritter, unser Opfer steigen himmelan, das uns zum Glück und Segen schön gefeiert sei, Mit vorgestrecktem Zügel, reich mit Fett benetzt, die Huld der Götter wünschen heute wir herbei.
Machet, daß unser Opfer bis zum Himmel reiche, o Asvin, daß es rasch vollzogen werde, um eure Gunst zu suchen! Machet, daß der mit Schmalz begossene Agni mit verhängtem Zügel fahre! - Diese Gunst der Götter erbitten wir heute.
О Ашвины, сделайте нашу жертву касающейся неба,
Оживляющей обряд – чтоб найти (вашу) милость,
(А Агни-) политым жиром, с поводьями, направленными вперед!

सुहवं स्वाह्वानं पावकं शोधकम् ऋष्वं दर्शनीयं शंभुवं सुखस्य भावयितारं रायः धनस्य पोषं पोषकं मारुतं मरुतां संबन्धिनं गणं संघं सख्याय सखिभावाय उप ह्वये उपगम्य हृयामि । आगतं गणं सौश्रवसाय शोभनान्नवत्त्वाय सुयशस्त्वाय वा वयं धीमहि बुद्धौ निदधीमहि । सिद्धमन्यत् ॥
“I invoke for their friendship, the deservedly invoked, purifying, beautiful troops of the Maruts, the giversof felicity, the dispensers of riches; we meditate upon them for the attainemtn of abundant food; we solicit todaythis protection of the gods.”
Hither I call the band of Maruts, swift to hear, great, purifying, bringing bliss, to he our Friends.
May we increase our wealth to glorify our name. We crave this graciousfavour of the Gods to-day.
I invoke the Marutian flock, (which is) good to invoke, (which is) pure, high, luck itself—for comradeship.
Might we acquire the thriving of wealth in order to receive good
fame. – This help of the gods we choose today.
Die Marutschar, die schnell, erhöret, ruf' ich an, die glänzende, erhabne, heilvoll uns zum Bund, Des Reichthums Mehrung, werde uns zu hohem Glück, die Gunst der Götter wünschen heute wir herbei.
Ich rufe die gerngerufene marutische Heerschar her, die lauter, reckenhaft, zur Freundschaft gewogen ist. Wir möchten Zunahme des Reichtums erfahren zu hohem Ruhme. - Diese Gunst der Götter erbitten wir heute.

अपाम् उदकानां पेरुं पालकं जीवधन्यम् । धन्या जीवा यस्मिन्नसौ जीवधन्यः । तं देवाव्यं देवानां तर्पकं सुहवं शोभनाह्वानं शोभनस्तुतिं वा अध्वरश्रियं सुरश्मिं शोभनांशुं सोमं भरामहे धारयामः । पत्नीशालातो हविर्धानं प्रति प्रापयामो वा । भृतं तं सोमम् इन्द्रियं वीर्यं यमीमहि वयं याचामहे । सिद्धमन्यत् ॥
“We offer the Soma, the protector of the waters, affluent in life, the delighter of the gods, who iswell-praised, the glory of sacrifice, the brilliant-rayed, the vigour which we desire; we solicit today this protectionof the gods.”
We bring the Stay of Life, who makes the waters swell, swift-hearing, Friend of Gods, who waits on sacrifice.
May we control that Power, Soma whose rays are bright. We crave this gracious favour of the Gods to-day.
We will bring (forward) the one swollen with the moisture of the waters, providing riches for the living, pursuing the gods, good to invoke, the glory of the ceremony.
Soma, destined for Indra, with his good reins would we hold fast.
– This help of the gods we choose today.
Den Flutdurchdringer, Lebensschaffer bringen wir, der Götter Lust, des Opfers Schmuck, der schnell uns hört, Des Indra Soma schön an Zügeln lenken wir, die Gunst der Götter wünschen heute wir herbei.
Den von Wasser vollgesogenen, der die Lebenden beglückt, tragen wir auf, der die Götter einlädt, den Gerngerufenen, der das Opfer verschönt; den für Indra bestimmten Soma wollen wir mit schönen Zügeln lenken. - Diese Gunst der Götter erbitten wir heute.

जीवाः जीवन्तः जीवपुत्राः जीवनवत्पुत्राश्च अनागसः अपराधवर्जिताश्च वयं धनाका लुशाः सनित्वभिः संभक्तृभिः पुत्रपौत्रादिभिः सह सुसनिता शोभनेन भजनेन तत् देवजातं सनेम । स्तुत्या हविष्प्रदानेन च सं भजेमहि । किंच ब्रह्मद्विषः ब्राह्मणानामस्माकं द्वेष्टारः विष्वक् नानागच्छत् एनः अस्मदीयं पापं भरेरत आत्मनि धारयन्तु । पोषयन्तु । सिद्धमन्यत् ॥
“Living with living offspring, and free from fault, let us make offerings (to the gods), sharing with thosewho share with us; may those who hate the brāhmaṇas, carry off our iniquity in different directions; we solicittoday this protection of the gods.”
Alive ourselves, with living sons, devoid of guilt, may we win this with winners by fair means to win.
Let the prayer-haters bear our sin to every side. We crave this gracious favour of the Gods to-day.
May we win this through easy winning with winners—we living and with living sons, blameless.
The haters of the sacred formulation should take their own
transgression off in all directions. – This help of the gods we
choose today.
Lasst uns und unsre Kinder lebend, frei von Schuld empfangen dies mit den Empfängern zum Geschenk; Die Andachthasser mögen fernhin tragen ihr Vergehn, die Gunst der Götter wünschen heute wir herbei.
Wir möchten das in leichtem Gewinn durch die Gewinner gewinnen, wir selbst lebend, mit lebenden Söhnen, frei von Verfehlung. Die Feinde des heiligen Worts sollen die Sünde weg und auf sich nehmen. - Diese Gunst der Götter erbitten wir heute.

Живые, с живыми сыновьями, невиновные!

हे देवाः ये यूयं मनोः मनुष्यस्य यज्ञियाः यज्ञार्हाः स्थ भवथ ते यूयं शृणोतन अस्मदीयां स्तुतिं शृणुत । किंच हे देवाः वः युष्मान् यत् अभीष्टम् ईमहे याचामहे तत् जैत्रं जयशीलं क्रतुं प्रज्ञानं रयिमत् धनवत् वीरवत् पुत्राद्युपेतं यशः च ददातन नोऽस्मभ्यं प्रयच्छत । सिद्धमन्यत् ॥ ॥ १० ॥
“Gods, who are entitled to the worship of men, hear (our prayers), and grant us that which we request;(bestow upon us) the intelligence requisite for victory, and fame with wealth, and male progeny; we solicit todaythis protection of the gods.”
Hear us, O ye who claim the worship of mankind, and give us, O ye Gods, the gift for which we pray,
Victorious wisdom, fame with heroes and with wealth. We crave to-day this gracious favour of the Gods.
You who are worthy of the sacrifice of Manu, listen: what we beseech you for, gods, give that—
resolve that brings victory, glory accompanied by wealth and heroes. – This help of the gods we choose today.
Die ihr vom Menschen hoch zu ehren seid, vernehmt, o Götter, was wir bitten und gewährt es uns, gebt Siegerkraft, an Schatz und Helden reichen Glanz, die Gunst der Götter wünschen heute wir herbei.

“We impolore today the especial protection of the mighty, the great, the irresistible, gods, that we mayobtain riches, and male progeny; we solicit today this protection of the gods.”
We crave the gracious favour of the Gods to-day, great favour of great Gods, sublime and free from foes,
That we may gain rich treasure sprung from hero sons. We crave this gracious favour of the Gods to-day.
A great thing of the great ones we choose today: the help of the lofty gods without assault,
so that we may attain the good born of heroes. – This help of the gods we choose today.
Der grossen Götter grosse Gunst erflehn wir heut, der hocherhabnen, welche nie ein Feind verletzt, Damit wir Gut, was Helden schaffen, nun empfahn, die Huld der Götter wünschen heute wir herbei.
Die große Gunst der großen, hohen, unerreichten Götter erbitten wir heute, auf daß wir den aus Söhnen erwachsenden Schutz erlangen. - Diese Gunst der Götter erbitten wir heute.

समिधानस्य समिध्यमानस्य महः महतः अग्नेः शर्मणि सुखे वयं स्याम भवेम । किंच वयम् अनागाः अनागसः । वचनव्यत्ययः । स्याम । अपि च मित्रे वरुणे मित्रावरुणयोः । षष्ठ्यर्थे सप्तमी । सवितुः च सवीमनि प्रसवे स्वस्तये सर्वप्रकाराविनाशाय स्याम । सिद्धमन्यत् ॥
“May we free from sin be in the (enjoyment of the) happiness of the mighty kindled Agni; and in (thekeeping of) Mitra and Varuṇa for our welfare; may we be among the excellent progeny of Savitā; we solicittoday this protection of the gods.”
In great enkindled Agni's keeping, and, for bliss, free from all sin before Mitra and Varuna.
May we share Savitar's best animating help. We crave this gracious favour of the Gods to-day.
In the shelter of great Agni while he is being kindled (may we be) blameless to Mitra and Varuṇa for our well-being;
may we be under the best impulsion of Savitar. – This help of the gods we choose today.

ये विश्वे देवाः सत्यसवस्य सत्यप्रसवस्य सवितुः मित्रस्य वरुणस्य मित्रावरुणयोश्च व्रते प्रसवाख्ये कर्मणि भवन्ति ते यूयं सौभगं सौभाग्यं वीरवत् पुत्राद्युपेतं गोमत् गोयुक्तं चित्रं पूजनीयं द्रविणं धनं च अप्नः कर्म व अस्मे मह्यं दधातन प्रयच्छत ॥
“Universal gods, who (take part) in the functions of Savitā, the parent of truth, of Mitra and Varuṇa,confer upon us auspicious and honourable wealth, comprising male progeny, and cattle, and (pious) acts.”
All ye, the Gods whom Savitar the Father of truth, and Varuna and Mitra govern,
Give us prosperity with hero children, and opulence in kine and various treasure.
All (you) Gods who are under the commandment of Savitar, whose impulsion is real, and of Mitra and Varuṇa—
establish well-portioned property in heroes and cows, brilliant wealth for us.
Ihr Götter alle, die ihr in dem Gesetz des wahrhaft belebenden Savitar und des Mitra und Varuna wandert, gebt uns heldenreiches Glück, Besitz an Rindern und mannichfachen Reichthum.
Alle Götter, soweit sie unter dem Gebot des Savitri, dessen Anweisung erfüllt wird, unter dem Gebote von Mitra und Varuna stehen, bringet ihr uns das glückliche Los, das in Söhnen besteht, Lohn in Rindern und blinkendem Reichtum!

पश्चातात् पश्चिमतः स्थितः सविता पुरस्तात् पूर्वतश्च स्थितः सविता उत्तरात्तात उत्तरतः स्थितश्च सविता नः अस्माकं सर्वतातिं सर्वमभिलषितं धनादिकं सुवतु प्रेरयतु । किंच सविता एव नः अस्मभ्यं दीर्घं बहुकालीनम् आयुः रासतां ददातु । बहुधा सवितृपदग्रहणमत्यन्तमादरार्थम् ॥ ॥ ११ ॥
“May Savitā on the west, Savitā on the east, Savitā on the north, Savitā on the south, may Savitāsend us all desired wealth, may Savitā bestow upon us long life.”
Savitar, Savitar from cast and westward, Savitar, Savitar from north and southward,
Savitar send us perfect health and comfort, Savitar let our days of life be lengthened!
Savitar from behind, Savitar from in front, Savitar from above, Savitar from below—
let Savitar impel wholeness to us; let Savitar bestow on us a long
lifetime.
