गृत्समदोब्रूते हेस्तोतारः नव्यन्नवतरमन्येष्वदृष्टपूर्वन्तत्तादृशंस्तोत्रमङ्गिरस्वत् अङ्गिरसइवास्मा इन्द्रायार्चतब्रूत यद्यस्माज्जातमात्रस्यास्येन्द्रस्य शुष्माः शत्रूणांशोषकाणितेजांसिप्रत्नथा प्रत्नपूर्वविश्वे- मात्थाल् छन्दसीतिइवार्थेथाल् प्रत्ययः प्रत्नानि पुरातनानीव उदीरते उद्गच्छन्ति ईरगतौ अनुदात्तेत् तिङिचोदात्तवतीतिगतेर्निघातः यद्यस्माच्च विश्वासर्वान् गोत्रामेघान् गाः उदकानित्रायन्तेरक्षन्तीति गोत्रामेघाः परीवृतावृत्रेणाक्रान्तान् सर्वत्रसुपोडादेशः तान् दृंहितानितेनदृढीकृतान् मेघान् सोमस्य- मदे हर्षेसञ्चातेसति सहसाबलेनऎरयत् उदघाटयत् मेघभेदनेनापःप्रेरयामासेत्यर्थः यद्वा विश्वा सर्वा- णिपरीबृता वृत्रासुरेणाक्रान्तानिदृंहितानि पर्वतबिले निरुद्धानि गोत्रा इनित्रकट्यचश्चेतिसमूहार्थेत्र- प्रत्ययः गवंवृन्दानि सहसाऎरयत् तम्साद्बिलान्निरगमयत् तस्मादर्चतेतिसमन्वयः ऎरयत् ईरगतौ ण्यन्तस्यलङिरूपं यद्वृत्तयोगादनिघातः ॥ १ ॥
“Address, worshippers, after the manner of Aṅgiras, a new (hymn) to that Indra, whose withering (energies) were developed of old; who, in the exhilaration of the Soma, forced open the obstructed and solid clouds.”
LIKE the Angirases, sing this new song forth to him, for, as in ancient days, his mighty powers are shown,
When in the rapture of the Soma he unclosed with strength the solid firm-shut stables of the kine.
As did the Aṅgirases, chant this new (chant) to him, so that his explosive powers rise up as in ancient times
when, through his strength and in the exhilaration of soma, he razed all the firmly fixed cow pens, enclosed on every side.
Dies neue Lied singt ihm nach Angirasen Art, dass seine Kraft sich rege wie in alter Zeit, Als er mit Macht der Kühe Ställe all' erschloss, die rings umhegten, festen in des Soma Rausch.
Singet ihm dieses neue Lied in Angirasweise, daß sich wie vormals seine Kräfte regen, wie damals als er mit Gewalt all die eingesperrten Kuhherden, die festverschlossenen im Somarausch herschaffte.

सइन्द्रोभूतुभवतु वर्धतामित्यर्थः यइन्द्रः ओजस्तेजोबलम्मिमानः कुर्वाणःसन् प्रथमाय प्राथमिका- यधायसे धेट्पाने सोमपानायमहिमानमातिरत् अवर्धयत् तिरतेर्व्यत्ययेनशः यद्योगादनिघातः शूरः शत्रूणांशातयितायइन्द्रः युत्सुपुद्धेपुतन्वं स्वकीयंशरीरम्परिव्यत वर्मणापरिवीतमकरोत् सइन्द्रोमहि- नास्वकीयेनमहिम्नाशीर्षणिस्वशिरसिद्याम्प्रत्यमुञ्चत अधारयत् ॥ २ ॥
“May that (Indra) be (excited), who, manifesting his energy, exerted his might for the first drinking of the Soma; a hero, who in combats protected his own person n and by his greatness sustained the heaven upon his head.”
Let him be even that God who, for the earliest draught measuring out his power, increased his majesty;
Hero who fortified his body in the wars, and through his greatness set the heaven upon his head.
Let him (once again) become the one who, showing the measure of his power, crossed beyond greatness to obtain the first nurture.
The champion, who girded his body in battles, fastened heaven in its greatness on his head.
Er zeige sich als der, der schon zum ersten Trunk sich stark erweisend, seine Grösse steigerte, Der Held, umpanzernd in den Schlachten seinen Leib, kraft seiner Grösse setzt den Himmel sich aufs Haupt.
Er soll derselbe sein, der um die erste Größe zu behaupten, seine Kraft erprobend die volle Größe erreichte. Der Held, der in den Kämpfen seinen Leib umgürtete, er setzte den Himmel mit Macht sich aufs Haupt.
Да будет он тем самым, кто ради установления первенства,
Меряя (свою) силу, превзошел величие,
Героем, который в битвах препоясал (свое) тело,
Благодаря (своему) величию надел небо себе на голову.

अधापिच हेइन्द्र त्वम्प्रथमम्मुख्यंहद्वीर्यंसामर्थ्यमकृणोरकरोः किन्तत् ब्रह्मणास्तोत्रेणस्तुतिसाधन- भूतेनवेदवाक्येनास्यवीर्यम्यस्तोतुर्जनस्याग्रेपुरतः यत् शुष्मंशत्रूणांशोषकम्बलमैरयः उदगमयः जीर- योजरयितारोबधकाअसुराः रथेष्ठेनरथस्थितेनहर्यश्वेनत्वयाविच्युताः स्वस्थानात् च्याविताःसन्तः सध्र्यक् सध्रीचीनाः परस्परंसङ्गताः पृथक् भीत्यावियुक्ताःसन्तः प्रसिस्रते प्रकर्षेणधावन्ति स्रुगतौ जु- होत्यादिः बहुलञ्छन्दसीत्यभ्यासस्येत्वं सध्र्यगितिसहस्यसध्रिरितिसध्र्यादेशः अद्रिसध्र्योरन्तोदात्तत्वे- ननिपातनादुदात्तस्वरितयोरितियणःस्वरितत्वम् ॥ ३ ॥
“Verily, Indra, you have displayed your first great prowess, when, (propitiated) by the prayer (of the worshipper), you have put forth your withering (vigour) in his presence; and when the congregated enemies (of the gods), hurled down by you in youur chariot, drawn by your horses, fled, scattered.”
Thou didst perform thy first great deed of hero might what time thou showedst power, through prayer, before this folk.
Hurled down by thee the car-borne Lord of Tawny Steeds, the congregated swift ones fled in sundry ways.
Then you did the first, great heroic deed, when, at its beginning, you roused your explosive power through the poetic formulation.
Spurred by the chariot-rider with his fallow bay horses, the lively
(waters) flow forth separately toward the same goal.
Da thatest du die erste grosse Heldenthat, als im Beginn begeistert du den Muth erhobst; Da strömten vor die Fluten alle hier und dort, durch ihn bewegt, der wagenstehend Rosse lenkt.
Da vollbrachtest du deine erste große Heldentat, als du zuerst durch dieses Sängers Kraftwort deinen Mut einsetztest. Durch den Wagenkämpfer mit den falben Rossen befreit laufen die Ströme getrennt nach dem gemeinsamen Ziel weiter.
Затем ты совершил первый великий подвиг:
(Тот,) что в начале с помощью его молитвы ты возбудил (свое) неистовство.
Освобожденные (Индрой,) стоящим на колеснице, правящим булаными конями,
Мчатся вперед живые (реки) к общей цели, (но) по отдельности.
अधा॒ यो विश्वा॒ भुव॑ना॒भि म॒ज्मने॑शान॒कृत्प्रव॑या अ॒भ्यव॑र्धत । आद्रोद॑सी॒ ज्योति॑षा॒ वह्नि॒रात॑नो॒त्सीव्य॒न्तमां॑सि॒ दुधि॑ता॒ सम॑व्ययत् ॥
अध॑ । यः । विश्वा॑ । भुव॑ना । अ॒भि । म॒ज्मना॑ । ई॒शा॒न॒ऽकृत् । प्रऽव॑याः । अ॒भि । अव॑र्धत । आत् । रोद॑सी॒ इति॑ । ज्योति॑षा । वह्निः॑ । आ । अ॒त॒नो॒त् । सीव्य॑न् । तमां॑सि । दुधि॑ता । सम् । अ॒व्य॒य॒त् ॥
अधापिचप्रवयाः प्रवृद्धान्नः पुरातनोवायइन्द्रः विश्वाभुवनासर्वान् लोकान् मज्मनाबलेनअभि- अभिभूयईशानकृत् आत्मानंसर्वस्याधिपतिङ्कुर्वन् यद्वा अग्र्यादीन् देवान् तत्तल्लोकाधिपतीन्कुर्वन् अभ्यवर्धत सर्वतःप्रवृद्धोभवत् आदनन्तरं वह्निः जगतांवोढासइन्द्रः ज्योतिषास्वीयेनतेजसारोदसी द्यावापृथिव्यावातनोत् व्याप्नोत् किञ्च तमांसितमोरूपाणि रक्षांसिदुधितादुःस्थानिदुर्गतानिसीव्यन् विस्तारयन् समव्ययत् आवृणोत् जगद्भ्याप्यवर्ततइत्यर्थः ॥ ४ ॥
“He indeed, the ancient Indra, making himself by his might sovereign over all worlds, became supreme over (all); and thenceforth sustaining heaven and earth, he overspread them with effulgence, and scattering the malignant glooms, he pervaded (all things).”
He made himself by might Lord of all living things, and strong in vital power waxed great above them all.
He, borne on high, o'erspread with light the heaven and earth, and, sewing up the turbid darkness, closed it in.
Then he who grew strong over all the worlds by his greatness, acting as their master, projecting his youthful vitality,
after that, (becoming a) draft-horse, he spanned the two world-halves with light; upon sewing up the bilious shades of darkness, he wrapped them all together.
Da als an Macht er über alle Wesen wuchs, der jugendkräft'ge, unumschränkte Herr der Welt, Bestrahlte fahrend beide Welten er mit Licht, verbarg einwickelnd die verworrne Finsterniss.
Der da in voller Kraft über alle Welten an Größe hinauswuchs, sich zum Herren machend, - dann durchzog der Wagenlenker Surya beide Welten mit Licht. Er packte die hartnäckige Finsternis ein, sie zunähend.
Именно (тот), кто благодаря (своей) мощи перерос
Все миры, делая (себя) властелином, (он,) очень сильный,
(Этот) возница протянул тут свет через оба мира!
Он свергнул мрак, зашивая его.

सइन्द्रः प्राचीनान् इतस्ततःप्रकर्षेणाञ्चतोगच्छतः सपक्षान् पर्वतान् ओजसाबलेन दृंहत् पक्षच्छे- दङ्क्रुत्वाभूमौदृढीचकार अचलानकरोदित्यर्थः अपाम्मेघस्थितानामुदकानामपः स्यन्दनलक्षणङ्कर्मअध- राचीनंअधः प्रदेशमञ्चतिगच्छतीत्यधराचीनं तादृशमकृणोत् मेघभेदनङ्कृत्वाअपोभूमावपातयदित्य- र्थः किञ्च विश्वधायसंविश्वस्यधात्रीम्पृथिवीम्बलेनाधारयत् माययाप्रज्ञया उपायेनद्यान्द्युलोकंअवस्रजः किञ्च विशधायसंविशस्यधात्रीम्पृथिवीम्बलेनाधारयत् माययाप्रज्ञया उपायेनद्यान्द्युलोकंअवस्रजः स्रंसु- गतौ सम्पदादिलक्षणोभावेक्विप् अवपतनादस्तभ्रात् ॥ ५ ॥
“By his strength, he fixed the wandering mountains; he directed the downward course of the waters; he upheld the earth, the nurse (of all creatures); and by his craft he stopped the heaven from falling.”
He with his might made firm the forward-bending hills, the downward rushing of the waters he ordained.
Fast he upheld the earth that nourisheth all life, and stayed the heaven from falling by his wondrous skill.
Through his power, he fixed firmly the mountains sliding forward, and he made the labor of the waters to be sliding downward.
He made fast the all-nurturing earth, and by his wiles he propped up the heaven (to keep it) from falling.
Er festigte der Berge Ueberhang mit Kraft, beförderte der Wasser niederstrebend Werk; Die Erde legte fest er, sie die alles nährt, Mit Kunst den Himmel stützend vor dem Niedersturz.
Er befestigte mit Kraft die vorwärts gehenden Berge; abwärts strebend machte er die Tätigkeit der Flüsse. Er befestigte die allnährende Erde, er stützte mit Zaubermacht den Himmel, daß er nicht herabfalle.
Он укрепил (своей) силой горы, обращенные вверх,
Деятельность вод он направил вниз.
Он поддержал все кормящую землю.
Волшебной силой он укрепил небо, чтобы оно не упало.
सास्मा॒ अरं॑ बा॒हुभ्यां॒ यं पि॒ताकृ॑णो॒द्विश्व॑स्मा॒दा ज॒नुषो॒ वेद॑स॒स्परि॑ । येना॑ पृथि॒व्यां नि क्रिविं॑ श॒यध्यै॒ वज्रे॑ण ह॒त्व्यवृ॑णक्तुवि॒ष्वणि॑: ॥
सः । अ॒स्मै॒ । अर॑म् । बा॒हुऽभ्या॑म् । यम् । पि॒ता । अकृ॑णोत् । विश्व॑स्मात् । आ । ज॒नुषः॑ । वेद॑सः । परि॑ । येन॑ । पृ॒थि॒व्याम् । नि । क्रिवि॑म् । श॒यध्यै॑ । वज्रे॑ण । ह॒त्वी । अवृ॑णक् । तु॒वि॒ऽस्वनिः॑ ॥
सतादृशइन्द्रः अस्मैजगते अरमलं पर्याप्तोबभूव रक्षकत्वेनस्वामीबभूवेत्यर्थः पितासर्वस्यपालकः प्रजापतिः विश्वस्मात् सर्वस्माज्जनुषोजनात् परिततोप्युत्कृष्टाद्वेदसोज्ञानात्तद्विशिष्टं बाहुभ्यांस्वकीया भ्याम्बाहुभ्यांयमाकृणोत् तुविष्वणिः बहुकीर्तिः महास्वनोवासइन्द्रः येनज्ञानेनक्रिविंएतन्नामानमसुरं वज्रेणहत्वी स्नात्व्यादयश्चेतित्वी हत्वा ताडयित्वा पृथिव्याम्भूमौशयध्यै शयनायदीर्घनिद्रायैन्यवृणक् व्रुणक्तिर्हिंसाकर्मान्यवधीत् ॥ ६ ॥
“Sufficient was he for (the protection of) this (world), which he, its defender, fabricated with his two arms for the sake of all mankind, over whom he was supreme by his wisdom; whereby, (also), he the loud-shouting, having struck Krivi (asura) with the thunderbolt, consigned him to (eternal) slumber on the earth.”
Fit for the grasping of his arms is what the Sire hath fabricated from all kind of precious wealth.
The thunderbolt, wherewith, loud-roaring, he smote down, and striking him to death laid Krivi on the earth.
That was fit for him, for his two arms—what his father made from every race and out of his knowledge—
that mace by which he, with mighty roar, smashed the worm and twisted it down to lie upon the earth.
Den Armen passend ist der Donnerkeil, den einst sein Vater schuf aus allen Wesen, allem Gut, Mit welchem er den Wasserschlauch zur Erde warf, mit starkem Schall ihn schlagend, dass er liege dort.
Sie ist für seine Arme passend, die der Vater aus jeglicher Schöpfung aus seinem Besitze gefertigt hatte, die Keule, mit der er laut tosend den Krivi schlug und niederrang, daß er auf der Erde lag.

Из всех пород по (своему) разумению,
Ваджра громкогласная, силой которой он убил (и) поверг долу
Криви, чтобы тот лежал на земле.
अ॒मा॒जूरि॑व पि॒त्रोः सचा॑ स॒ती स॑मा॒नादा सद॑स॒स्त्वामि॑ये॒ भग॑म् । कृ॒धि प्र॑के॒तमुप॑ मा॒स्या भ॑र द॒द्धि भा॒गं त॒न्वो॒३॒॑ येन॑ मा॒मह॑: ॥
अ॒मा॒जूःऽइ॑व । पि॒त्रोः । सचा॑ । स॒ती । स॒मा॒नात् । आ । सद॑सः । त्वाम् । इ॒ये॒ । भग॑म् । कृ॒धि । प्र॒ऽके॒तम् । उप॑ । मा॒सि॒ । आ । भ॒र॒ । द॒द्धि । भा॒गम् । त॒न्वः॑ । येन॑ । म॒महः॑ ॥
हेइन्द्र अमाजूःइव यावज्जीवङ्गृहेएवजीर्यन्ती पित्रोः सचा मात्रापितृभ्यांसहभवन्ती तयोः शुश्रू- षणपरापतिमलभमानासतीदुहिता समानादात्मनःपित्रोश्चसाधारणात् सदसोगृहात् अधिकरणेचो- पसङ्ख्यानमितिपञ्चमी गृहउपस्थायैवयथाभागंयाचतितथास्तोताहम्भगम्भजनीयं धनं त्वामिये ईगत्या दिषु लिट्युत्तमइतिव्यत्ययेनात्मनेपदं इयङादेशः त्वांयाचे तत्रदेयन्धनम्प्रकेतम्प्रकर्षेणज्ञातव्यंविश्वज- नीयङ्कृधिकुरु तत्रउपमासि एतावदिदन्धनमितिकुरु आभर तत्रधनंसम्पादय भागम्भजनीयन्धनन्तन्वः शरीरायमह्यमितियावत् दद्धिदेहि येनधनेन ममहः स्तोतॄनिमान् आपूजयसि ॥ ७ ॥
“As a virtuous (maiden), growing old in the same dwelling with her parents, (claims from them her support), so come I to you for wealth; make it conspicuous, measure it, bring it (hither), grant (a sufficient) portion for my bodily sustenance, (such as that) wherewith you honour (your worshippers).”
As she who in her parents' house is growing old, I pray to thee as Bhaga from the seat of all.
Grant knowledge, mete it out and bring it to us here: give us the share wherewith thou makest people glad.
Like a woman aging at home, remaining with her parents, from our common ritual seat, I beg you to be our Fortune.
Make a visible sign, give us a measure, and bring it here. Give a portion to me myself by which you will show your readiness to give.
Wie eine Maid, die unvermählt beim Vater weilt, geh' ich dich an von gleichem Sitz um Liebeshuld; Gewähr uns Weisheit, miss uns zu und bringe her, gibt Gut des Leibes, du ja bist so reich daran.
Wie eine alte Jungfer, die bei den Eltern lebt, vom gemeinsamen Wohnsitz aus um Liebesglück, so flehe ich dich um Glück an. Gib ein Vorzeichen, teile zu, bring her, gib einen Anteil für meine Person, mit dem du eine Ehre antun wirst!

Из общего дома (молит тебя), я прошу тебя о счастье.
Дай знак, отмеряй, принеси,
Положи долю мне самому- (ту,) которой осчастливишь (меня)!

हेइन्द्र भोजम्पालयितारम्भोजयितारंवात्वांवयंहुवेम ह्वयतेर्लिङिबहुलञ्छन्दसीतिसम्प्रसारणम् हे- इन्द्र त्वंअपांसिकर्माणिवाजानन्नानिददिः दाण् दाने आदृगमहनजनइतिकिप्रत्ययः लिङ्वद्भावाद- भ्यासादिकार्यम् नलोकाव्ययनिष्ठेतिषष्ठीप्रतिषेधः दाताखलु हेइन्द्र चित्रयानानाप्रकारयाऊतीऊत्या- पालनेननोस्मानविड्ढिरक्ष वृषन् कामानांवर्षकहेइन्द्र नोस्मान् वस्यसः अतिशयेनवसुमतः कृधिकुरु ॥ ८ ॥
“We invoke you, Indra, the bestower of enjoyment; you grant food, Indra, (in requital of pious) works; protect us, Indra, with manifold protections; Indra, showerer (of benefits), render us affluent.”
May we invoke thee as a liberal giver thou givest us, O Indra, strength and labours.
Help us with manifold assistance, Indra: Migthy One, Indra, make us yet more wealthy.

नू॒नम् । सा । ते॒ । प्रति॑ । वर॑म् । जरि॒त्रे । दु॒ही॒यत् । इ॒न्द्र॒ । दक्षि॑णा । म॒घोनी॑ । शिक्ष॑ । स्तो॒तृऽभ्यः॑ । मा । अति॑ । ध॒क् । भगः॑ । नः॒ । बृ॒हत् । व॒दे॒म॒ । वि॒दथे॑ । सु॒ऽवीराः॑ ॥
नूनंसातइतिव्याख्याता ॥ ९ ॥प्रातारथइतिनवर्चंसप्तमंसूक्तं गार्त्समदन्त्रैष्टुभमैन्द्रं प्रातरित्यनुक्रान्तम् लैङ्गिकोविनियोगः ।
“That opulent donation which proceeds, Indra, from you, assuredly bestows upon him who praises you, the boon that he desires; grant (it) to (us) your adorers; do not you, who are the object of adoration, disregard our prayers; so that, blessed with worthy descendants, we may glorify you at this sacrifice.”
Now may that weaithy Cow of thine, O Indra, give in return a boon to him who lauds thee.
Give to thy praisers: let not fortune fail us. Loud may we speak, with heroes, in assembly.
Now should the generous priestly gift yield your boon for the singer as its milk, Indra.
Exert yourself for the praise singers. Let fortune not pass us by. – May we speak loftily at the ritual distribution, in possession of good heroes.
Wohlan, es locke diese reiche Gabe dir ab, o Indra, was der Sänger wünschet; Den Preisern spende, kürze nicht den Antheil. Lasst laut im Chore bei dem Fest uns singen.
Nun soll diese deine reichliche Lohngabe, o Indra, dem Sänger nach Wunsch ergiebig sein. Suche den Sängern zu nützen; das Glück soll nicht an uns vorübergehen. - Wir möchten das große Wort führen als Meister in der Weisheit.
