इ॒मां मे॑ अग्ने स॒मिध॑मि॒मामु॑प॒सदं॑ वनेः । इ॒मा उ॒ षु श्रु॑धी॒ गिर॑: ॥
इ॒माम् । मे॒ । अ॒ग्ने॒ । स॒म्ऽइध॑म् । इ॒माम् । उ॒प॒ऽसद॑म् । व॒ने॒रिति॑ वनेः । इ॒माः । ऊँ॒ इति॑ । सु । श्रु॒धि॒ । गिरः॑ ॥
हेअग्नेमेमदीयामिमां आधीयमानांसमिधं इमामुपसदंउपसदनसाधनामाहुतिंउपसद्यागेक्रिय- माणांवावनेः सम्भजेथाः तथेमाउ इमाअपिगिरः स्तुतीः सु सुष्ठुश्रुधि श्रृणु ॥ १ ॥
“Agni, accept this my fuel, this my oblation; listen, well plural ased, to my praises.”
AGNI, accept this flaming brand, this waiting with my prayer on thee:
Hear graciously these songs of praise.
Accept, O Agni, this my piece of wood and this my sitting down (reverentially) 1, and hear these words of mine.
This kindling stick of mine here, o Agni, this reverence may you long for, and these songs—hear them well.
Nimm dieses Brennholz gnädig an, o Agni, und den Gottesdienst; O höre diese Sprüche recht.
Mögest du dies Brennholz von mir, diese Huldigung gern annehmen Agni, und höre fein auf diese Lobrede!

अ॒या ते॑ अग्ने विधे॒मोर्जो॑ नपा॒दश्व॑मिष्टे । ए॒ना सू॒क्तेन॑ सुजात ॥

हेअग्ने तेत्वां अयाअनयाआहुत्याविधेम परिचरेम हेऊर्जोनपात् बलस्यनप्तः तस्यनपातयितर्वा हेअश्वमिष्टेव्यापकयज्ञ यद्वा आशुक्रियमाणङ्कर्माश्वन्तदिच्छतीतिअश्वमिष्टिः सन्त्वरमाणाह्युपसदाच- रन्ति तेकर्मभिःसमत्वरन्ततेतिस्रः सामिधेनीरनूच्यतिस्रोदेवताअयजन्नितिब्राह्मणम् । तादृशाग्ने तेत्वांअनयाहुत्याविधेमपरिचरेमतथाहेसुजातशोभनजननएनाएतेनसूक्तेनस्तोत्रेणप्रीणयेमेतिशेषः यद्वा स्तुत्युपबृंहितेनविधेम ॥ २ ॥
“May we propitiate you, Agni, by this (oblation), grandsonof strength, (who are) gratified by prompt sacrifice, (may we plural ase you), well-born, by this hymn.”
With this hymn let us honour thee, seeker of horses, Son of Strength,
With this fair hymn, thou nobly born.
Let us worship thee, Agni, child of vigour, with this (piece of wood?) 1, O winner of horses 2, with this well-spoken (hymn), O well-born one.
With this (song) we would do honor to you, o Agni, child of
nourishment, seeker of horses—
with this well-said (hymn), o well-born one.
Wir wollen, Agni, dienen dir, o Rossespender, Sohn der Kraft, Mit Lied, o schöngeborner, hier.
Damit wollen wir dir aufwarten, Agni, Kind der Kraft, du Roßbeuter, mit diesem Liede, du Edelgeborener.

तं त्वा॑ गी॒र्भिर्गिर्व॑णसं द्रविण॒स्युं द्र॑विणोदः । स॒प॒र्येम॑ सप॒र्यव॑: ॥
तम् । त्वा॒ । गीः॒ऽभिः । गिर्व॑णसम् । द्र॒वि॒ण॒स्युम् । द्र॒वि॒णः॒ऽदः॒ । स॒प॒र्येम॑ । स॒प॒र्यवः॑ ॥
हेद्रविणोदः धनस्यदातः अग्ने तन्तादृशङ्गिर्वणसं गीर्भिः स्तुतिभिर्वननीयन्द्रविणस्युंहविर्लक्षणधने- च्छुन्त्वात्वांसपर्यवः परिचरणकर्तारोवयङ्गीर्भिःस्तुतिभिः सपर्येम परिचरेम ॥ ३ ॥
“Granter of riches, may we, your worshippers, propitiate you, who are desirous of (sacrificial) wealth, and deserving of laudation, by our praise.”
As such, lover of song, with songs, wealth-lover, giver of our wealth!
With reverence let us worship thee.
May we thus as thy devoted servants pay devotion by our words to thee who acceptest words (of prayer), to thee who aspirest after wealth, O giver of wealth.
You who have a longing for songs (we would serve) with songs; you seeking chattels, o chattel-giver,
we would serve, ourselves seeking service.
Mit Liedern dich, der Lieder liebt, der Schätze schenkt, o Schätzeherr, Verehren wir verehrungsvoll.
Dich, den Lobbegehrenden, wollen wir unter Lobesworten, dich den Schätzebegehrer, du Schätzegeber, pfleglich pflegen.
Тебя, такого любящего песни, – песнями,
Стремящегося к богатству, о дающий богатство,
Мы хотим уважить, (мы,) склонные к уважению.

सः । बो॒धि॒ । सू॒रिः । म॒घवा॑ । वसु॑ऽपते । वसु॑ऽदावन् । यु॒यो॒धि । अ॒स्मत् । द्वेषां॑सि ॥
वसुपतेधनपते वसुदावन् मघवाअन्नवान् सूरिर्विद्वान् प्रेरकोवा सउक्तलक्षणकस्त्वम्बोधि बुद्ध्य- स्व अस्मदीयंस्तोत्रं किञ्च हेअग्ने देषांसिद्वेष्टॄनस्मद्स्मत्तोयुयोधि पृथक्कुरु ॥ ४ ॥
“Lord of wealth, giver of wealth, possessor of riches, who are wise, understand (our prayers), and scatter our enemies.”
Be thou for us a liberal Prince, giver and Lord of precious things.
Drive those who hate us far away.
Thus be thou a liberal, bountiful lord, O lord of goods, O giver of goods. Drive hatred away from us.
Become our bounteous patron, o lord of goods who gives goods. Keep hatreds away from us.
Sei uns ein reicher Opferherr, o Herr des Guts, der Gut verschenkt; Treib fort von uns der Feinde Schar.
Sei du nun ein freigebiger Herr, du schätzespendender Schätzeherr; wehre uns die Feindschaften ab!

स नो॑ वृ॒ष्टिं दि॒वस्परि॒ स नो॒ वाज॑मन॒र्वाण॑म् । स न॑: सह॒स्रिणी॒रिष॑: ॥
सः । नः॒ । वृ॒ष्टिम् । दि॒वः । परि॑ । सः । नः॒ । वाज॑म् । अ॒न॒र्वाण॑म् । सः । नः॒ । स॒ह॒स्रिणीः॑ । इषः॑ ॥
सः सएवाग्निः नोस्मदर्थन्दिवस्परि द्युलोकादन्तरिक्षात् परीतिपञ्चम्यर्थानुवादी वृष्टिङ्करोतीतिच- शेषः सएवनोस्मदर्थमनर्वाणमविचलमनल्पंवाजम्बलन्ददातु तथासहस्रिणीः अपरिमितप्रकाराणि इषः अन्नानि सएवाग्निर्नोस्मभ्यन्ददातु ॥ ५ ॥
“(For you are) he (who gives) us rain from heaven; he (who gives) us undecaying strenght, he (who gives) us infinite (abundance of) food.”
Such as thou art, give rain from heaven, give strength which no man may resist:
Give food exceeding plentiful.
Thus (give) us 1 rain from the sky; thus (give) us unattainable strength; thus (give) us thousandfold food.
Do you (give) us rain from heaven; do you (give) us an unassailable prize; do you (give) us refreshments in the thousands.

ईळा॑नायाव॒स्यवे॒ यवि॑ष्ठ दूत नो गि॒रा । यजि॑ष्ठ होत॒रा ग॑हि ॥
ईळा॑नाय । अ॒व॒स्यवे॑ । यवि॑ष्ठ । दू॒त॒ । नः॒ । गि॒रा । यजि॑ष्ठ । हो॒तः॒ । आ । ग॒हि॒ ॥
हेयविष्ठ युवतम दूत देवानांयज्ञादिसूचक यजिष्ठ अतिशयेनयष्टव्य होतः देवानामाह्वातरग्ने नो- गिराअस्मदीययास्तुत्याईळानाय पूजयित्रे अवस्यवेस्वरक्षणमिच्छतेमदर्थं आगहि आगच्छ ॥ ६ ॥
“Youngest (of the gods), their messenger, their invoker, most deserving of worship, come, upon our praise, to him who offers (you) adoration, and is desirous of (your) protection.”
To him who lauds thee, craving help, most youthful envoy! through our song,
Most holy Herald! come thou nigh.
To him who magnifies thee, who desires thy help, O youngest messenger, (invoked) by our word, best sacrificing Hotri, come near.
To the one reverently invoking, to the one seeking help, o youngest messenger,
o Hotar most deserving the sacrifice, come here at our song.
Dem Preisenden, der Hülfe sucht, o jüngster Bote, nahe dich, O bester Priester, durch das Lied.
Zu dem, der als Schutzsuchender dich für uns mit Lobrede beruft, o jüngster Bote, bestopfernder Hotri, komm her!

अ॒न्तर्ह्य॑ग्न॒ ईय॑से वि॒द्वाञ्जन्मो॒भया॑ कवे । दू॒तो जन्ये॑व॒ मित्र्य॑: ॥
अ॒न्तः । हि । अ॒ग्ने॒ । ईय॑से । वि॒द्वान् । जन्म॑ । उ॒भया॑ । क॒वे॒ । दू॒तः । जन्या॑ऽइव । मित्र्यः॑ ॥
हेकवे मेधाविन्नग्ने अन्तर्जनानान्त्दृदयेईयसेहि गच्छसिजानासिवा हिः सहोतासेदुदूत्यञ्चिकित्वाँ- अन्तरीयसइत्यादिमन्त्रान्तरप्रसिद्धिद्योतनार्थः कीदृशस्त्वं उभयाउभयविधानिजन्मजन्मानि यष्टॄणां- यजमानानांयष्टव्यानान्देवनाञ्चसम्बन्धीनि विद्वान् जानन् सन् ईयसइतिसम्बन्धः तत्रदृष्टान्तः—जन्यो- जनेभ्योहितः मित्र्योविशेषेणमित्रेभ्योहितोदूतइव सयथप्रजानाञ्चित्तवृत्तिज्ञानायराज्ञाप्रेरितः तासां- मनोजानातितद्वत् त्वमप्यस्माकमन्तरीयसइत्यर्थः ॥ ७ ॥
“Sage Agni, you penetrate the innermost (man), knowing the birth of both (the worshipper and the worshipped); like a messenger favourable to men, especially to his friends.”
Between both races, Agni, Sage, well skilled thou passest to and fro,
As envoy friendly to mankind.
For thou, Agni, O sage, who knowest both races (of gods and of men), passest (to and fro) between them, like a messenger belonging to thy own people 1, belonging to thy allies.
For, o Agni, sage poet, as the one who knows, you speed between both breeds [=human and divine]
as messenger—like one serving both his own people and their allies.
Denn zwischen Gott- und Menschenstamm gehst, weiser Agni, kundig du, Als Bote, beiden holdgesinnt.
Denn du, Agni, vermittelst als Kundiger zwischen den beiderlei Geschlechtern, du Seher, als Bote, wie ein befreundeter Brautwerber zwischen zwei Familien.
Ты путешествуешь, о Агни, как знаток
Между обоими родами, о поэт,
Как вестник, близкий племени, дружелюбный.
स वि॒द्वाँ आ च॑ पिप्रयो॒ यक्षि॑ चिकित्व आनु॒षक् । आ चा॒स्मिन्त्स॑त्सि ब॒र्हिषि॑ ॥
सः । वि॒द्वान् । आ । च॒ । पि॒प्र॒यः॒ । यक्षि॑ । चि॒कि॒त्वः॒ । आ॒नु॒षक् । आ । च॒ । अ॒स्मिन् । स॒त्सि॒ । ब॒र्हिषि॑ ॥
हेअग्ने सत्वंविद्वान् विशेषाभिज्ञःसन् आचपिप्रयः सर्वतोस्मान् पूरयचकामैः हेचिकित्वश्चेतनावा- न् आनुषक् अनुक्रमेणयक्षि यज देवान् आसत्सिआसीदचास्मिन् स्तीर्णेबर्हिषि ॥ ८ ॥श्रेष्ठंयविष्ठेतिषडृचंसप्तमंसूक्तंसोमाहुत्यार्षमाग्नेयङ्गायत्रं प्रातरनुवाकाश्विनशस्त्रयोर्गायत्रे छन्दस्य- स्यविनियोगःपूर्वसूक्तएवोक्तः श्रवणाकर्मण्याद्याविनियक्ता ।
“Do you, Agni, who are all-wise, fulfil (our desire); do you, who are intelligent, worship (the gods) in order; and sit down on this sacred grass.”
Befriend us thou as knowing all. Sage, duly worship thou the Gods,
And seat thee on this sacred grass.
Thus gladden (the gods) 1 as the knowing one; sacrifice, O intelligent one, in due order, and sit down on this Barhis.
As the one who knows, you will please (the gods) here, and, o observant one, you will sacrifice to them in due order,
and you will sit here on this ritual grass.
Erfreue denn als kundiger und ehr, o Weiser, allesammt, Und setze dich auf diese Streu.
Als Kundiger mögest du die Götter freundlich stimmen und ihnen in richtiger Ordnung opfern, du Verständiger, und auf diesem Barhis Platz nehmen.
Как знаток настрой благожелательно (богов),
Почти их жертвой по порядку, о внимательный,
И сядь на эту жертвенную солому!
