अच्छा॑ वद त॒वसं॑ गी॒र्भिरा॒भिः स्तु॒हि प॒र्जन्यं॒ नम॒सा वि॑वास । कनि॑क्रदद्वृष॒भो जी॒रदा॑नू॒ रेतो॑ दधा॒त्योष॑धीषु॒ गर्भ॑म् ॥
अच्छ॑ । व॒द॒ । त॒वस॑म् । गीः॒ऽभिः । आ॒भिः । स्तु॒हि । प॒र्जन्य॑म् । नम॑सा । वि॒वा॒स॒ । कनि॑क्रदत् । वृ॒ष॒भः । जी॒रऽदा॑नुः । रेतः॑ । द॒धा॒ति॑ । ओष॑धीषु । गर्भ॑म् ॥
हे स्तोतः तवसं बलवन्तं पर्जन्यम् अच्छ अभिप्राप्य वद प्रार्थय । पर्जन्यशब्दो यास्केन बहुधा निरुक्तः -- पर्जन्यस्तृपेराद्यन्तविपरीतस्य तर्पयिता जन्यः परो जेता वा जनयिता वा प्रार्जयिता वा रसानाम् ' ( निरु. १०. १० ) इति । आभिः गीर्भिः स्तुतिवाग्भिः स्तुहि । नमसा अन्नेन हविर्लक्षणेन आ विवास सर्वतः परिचर । यः पर्जन्यः वृषभः अपां वर्षिता जीरदानुः क्षिप्रदानः कनिक्रदत् गर्जनशब्दं कुर्वन् ओषधीषु गर्भं गर्भस्थानीयं रेतः उदकं दधाति स्थापयति तं स्तुहि ॥
“I address the mighty Parjanya who is present; praise him with these hymns; worship him with reverence, him who is the thunderer, the showerer, the bountiful, who impregnates the plural nts with rain.”
SING with these songs thy welcome to the Mighty, with adoration praise and call Parjanya.
The Bull, loud roaring, swift to send his bounty, lays in the plants the seed. for germination.
Invoke the mighty god with songs of welcome; Parjanya praise: with homage seek to win him. He, roaring like a bull, with streams that quicken, A seed to germinate in plants deposits.
Address the powerful one with these hymns. Praise Parjanya. With reverence seek to entice him here.
The constantly roaring bull of lively drops deposits his semen as embryo in the plants.

अयम्मन्त्रोनिरुक्तेस्पष्टव्याख्यातत्वात्तदेवात्रलिख्यते पर्जन्यःविहन्ति वृक्षान्विहन्तिच रक्षांसि सर्वाणिचास्माद्भूतानिबिभ्यति महाव- धान्महान्ह्यस्यवधोप्यनपराधोभीतः पलायते वर्षकर्मवतोयत्पर्जन्यस्तनयन्हन्ति दुष्कृतः पापकृतइति ॥ २ ॥
“He strikes down the trees, he destroys the rākṣasas, he terrifies the whole world by his mighty weapon; even the innocent man flies from the sender of rain, when Parjanya, thundering, slays the wicked.”
He smites the trees apart, he slays the demons: all life fears him who wields the mighty weapon.
From him exceeding strong fices e'en the guiltless, when thundering Parjanya smites the wicked.
The trees he shatters and he smites the demon host: The whole world trembles at his mighty weapon's stroke, The guiltless man himself flees from the potent god, When miscreants Parjanya with his thunder strikes.
He smashes apart the trees and also smashes the demons. All creation fears him who has the mighty weapon.
And (even) the blameless one shrinks from the one of bullish powers, when Parjanya, thundering, smashes those who do ill.
Er fäll't die Bäume, fäll't die Nachtgespenster auch; das Weltall bebt vor ihm, der grosse Waffen trägt, Vor dem gewalt'gen fliehet auch, wer schuldlos ist, so oft Pardschanja donnernd Uebelthäter schlägt.
Er zerschlägt die Bäume und erschlägt die Unholde; die ganze Welt hat vor ihm Furcht, der die große Waffe führt. Auch der Schuldlose geht dem Bullenstarken aus dem Wege, wenn Parjanya donnernd die Übeltäter erschlägt.
Он разбивает деревья и убивает ракшасов.
Весь мир страшится носителя великого оружия.
Даже невинный сторонится мощного, как бык,
Когда Парджанья, гремя, убивает злодеев.

रथीव रथस्वामीव। स यथा कशया अश्वान अभिक्षिपन् दूतान् भटान् आविष्करोति तद्वदसौ पजन्योऽपि कशया अश्वान् मेघान् अभिक्षिपन् अभिप्रेरयन् 'वर्ष्यान् वर्षकान् दूतान् दूतवत् वृष्टिप्रेरकान् मेघान् मरुतो वा आविः कृणुते प्रकटयति । अह इति पूरणः । एवं सति सिंहस्य। सहतेर्हिंसतेर्वा शब्दकर्मणः सिंहशब्दः । अवर्षणेनाभिभवितुः शब्दयितुर्वा मेघस्य स्तनथाः गर्जनशब्दाः दूरात् उदीरते उद्गच्छन्ति । कदा। यत् यदा पर्जन्यः नभः अन्तरिक्षं वर्ष्यं वर्षोपेतं कृणुते करोति तदा ॥
“As a charioteer, urging his horses with his whip, brings into view the messenger (of war), so Parjanya, (driving the clouds before him), makes manifest the messengers of the rain; the roaring of the lion-(like cloud) proclaims from afar that Parjanya overspreads the sky with rainy clouds.”
Like a car-driver whipping on his horses, he makes the messengers of rain spring forward.
Far off resounds the roaring of the lion, what time Parjanya fills the sky with rain-cloud.
Like charioteer his horses lashing with a whip, The god makes manifest his messengers of rain. From far away the roaring of the lion sounds, What time Parjanya veils the firmament with rain.
Like a charioteer lashing out at his horses with a whip, he reveals his rain-bearing messengers.
From afar the thunderings of the lion rise up, when Parjanya produces his rain-bearing cloud.
Dem Fuhrmann gleich, der peitschend seine Rosse treibt, lässt er erscheinen seine Regenboten schon; Des Löwen Donner tönen aus der Ferne her, sobald Pardschanja seine Wolken regnen lässt.
Wie der Wagenfahrer mit der Peitsche auf die Rosse schlagend, läßt er seine Regenboten erscheinen. Von Ferne erheben sich die Donnerlaute des Löwen, wenn Parjanya das regenbringende Gewölk macht.
Подобно вознице, нахлестывая кнутом коней,
Он делает (так, что) показываются вестники дождя,
Издалека вздымаются раскаты грома льва,

प्र वान्ति वाता: वृष्ट्यर्थम् । पतयन्ति गच्छन्ति समन्तात् संचरन्ति विद्युतः । ओषधीः ओषधयः उत् जिहते उद्गच्छन्ति प्रवर्धन्ते । स्वः अन्तरिक्षं पिन्वते क्षरति । इरा भूमिः विश्वस्मै सर्वस्मै भुवनाय सर्वजगद्धितीय जायते समर्था भवति । कदैवमिति । यत् यदा पर्जन्यः देवः पृथिवीं रेतसा उदकेन अवति रक्षति अभिगच्छति वा तदैवं भवति ।
“The winds blow strong, the lightnings flash, the plural nts spring up, the firmament dissolves; earth becomes (fit) for all creatures when Parjanya fertilizes the soil with showers.”
Forth burst the winds, down come the lightning-flashes: the plants shoot up, the realm of light is streaming.
Food springs abundant for all living creatures, what time Parjanya quickens earth with moisture.
The winds blow forth; to earth the quivering lightnings fall, The plants shoot up; with moisture streams the realm of light. For all the world abundant nourishment is born, When by Parjanya Earth is fertilized with seed.
The winds blow forth; the lightning bolts fly. The plants shoot up; the sun swells.
Refreshment arises for all creation, when Parjanya aids the earth with his semen.
Die Winde wehen, Blitze fliegen vor ihm her; die Kräuter richten sich empor, der Himmel strömt, Und jedem Wesen wird der Labetrunk erzeugt, sobald Pardschanja mit Erguss die Erd' erquickt.
Die Winde wehen los, Blitze fallen, die Pflanzen richten sich auf, die Sonne quillt über. Jedwedem Wesen wird Erquickung, wenn Parjanya mit seinem Samen der Erde aufhilft.

Расправляются растения, набухает небо.

यस्य पर्जन्यस्य व्रते कर्मणि पृथिवी नन्नमीति अत्यर्थं नमति सर्वेषामधो भवति । यस्य व्रते शफवत् पादोपेतं गवादिकं जर्भुरीति भ्रियते पूर्यते गच्छतीति वा । यस्य व्रते कर्मणि ओषधीः ओषध्यः विश्वरूपाः नानारूपा भवन्ति हे पर्जन्य सः महांस्त्वं नः अस्मभ्यं महि शर्म महत् सुखं यच्छ प्रयच्छ ॥ ॥ २७ ॥
“Do you, Parjanya, through whose function the earth is bowed down; through whose function hoofed cattle thrive; through whose function plural nts assume all kinds of forms, grant us great felicity.”
Thou at whose bidding earth bows low before thee, at whose command hoofed cattle fly in terror,
At whose behest the plants assume all colours, even thou Parjanya, yield us great protection.
O thou at whose behest the earth bows downward, O thou at whose behest hoofed creatures quiver, At whose behest by plants all shapes are taken: As such, Parjanya, grant to us strong shelter.
At whose commandment the earth bobs up and down, at whose commandment the hoofed (livestock) quivers,
at whose commandment the plants take on all forms—you, Parjanya— extend to us great shelter.
Bei dessen Werk die Erde tief sich neiget, bei dessen Werk sich reget das Behufte, Bei dessen Werk die Kräuter bunt sich schmücken, du, o Pardschanja, reiche grossen Schutz uns.
Bei dessen Walten die Erde sich neigt, bei dessen Walten alles, was Hufe hat, hüpft, bei dessen Walten die bunten Pflanzen sprießen, du Parjanya, gewähre uns deinen großen Schutz!
По чьему закону низко склоняется земля,
По чьему закону скачут копытные,
По чьему закону (расцветают) разноцветные растения, -
Этот Парджанья пусть дарует нам великую защиту!

हे मरुतः यूयं दिवः अन्तरिक्षसकाशात् नः अस्मदर्थं वृष्टिं ररीध्वं दत्त । वृष्णः वर्षकस्य अश्वस्य व्यापकस्य मेघस्य संबन्धिन्यः धाराः उदकधाराः प्र पिन्वत प्रक्षरत । हे पर्जन्य त्वम् एतेन स्तनयित्नुना गर्जता मेघेन सह अर्वाङ् अस्मदभिमुखम् एहि आगच्छ। किं कुर्वन् । अपः अम्भांसि निषिञ्चन् स देवः असुरः उदकानां निरसितापि सन् नः अस्माकं पिता पालकश्च ॥
“Send down for us, Maruts, the rain from heaven; drops of the rainy charger descend; come down Parjanya, sprinkling water by this thundering (cloud); you who are the sender of rain, our protector.”
Send down for us the rain of heaven, ye Maruts, and let the Stallion's flood descend in torrents.
Come hither with this thunder while thou pourest the waters down, our heavenly Lord and Father.
The rain of heaven bestow, O Maruts, on us, Of your strong steed pour forth the streams abundant. With this thy thundering roar do thou come hither, And shed the waters as our heavenly father.
Grant us rain from heaven, o Maruts; make the streams of the bullish stallion swell forth.
(Parjanya,) come nearby with this thundering, pouring down the waters as the lord, our father.
Des Himmels Regen spendet uns, o Maruts, des brünst'gen Hengstes Ströme lasset schnellen; Komm nah herbei mit dieser Donnerwolke, ergiessend Wasser, uns ein thät'ger Vater.
Ihr Marut, spendet uns des Himmels Regen, lasset des Hengstes Strahlen hervorquellen. Komm näher mit diesem Gedonnere, die Wasser herabgießend, unser Vater Asura!

अभि भूम्यभिमुखं क्रन्द शब्दय । तदेव पुनरुच्यते दार्ढ्याय । स्तनय गर्ज। गर्भं गर्भस्थानीयमुदकम् ओषधीषु आ धाः आधेहि । तदर्थम् उदन्वता उदकवता रथेन परि दीय परितो गच्छ। दृतिं दृतिवदुदकधारकं मेघं विषितं विशेषेण सितं बद्धं न्यञ्चं न्यक् अधोमुखं सु सुष्टु कर्ष आकर्ष वृष्ट्यर्थम् । यद्वा । विषितं विमुक्तबन्धनमेवं कर्ष । एवं कृते उद्वतः ऊर्ध्ववन्तः उन्नतप्रदेशाः निपादाः न्यग्भूतपादा निकृष्टपादा वा निम्नोन्नतप्रदेशाः समाः एकस्थाः भवन्तु उदकपूर्णा भवन्त्वित्यर्थः ॥
“Cry aloud over (the earth); thunder; impregnate the plural nts; traverse (the sky) with your water-laden chariot, draw open the tight-fastened, downward-turned water bag, and may the high and low plural ces be made level.”
Thunder and roar: the germ of life deposit. Fly round us on thy chariot waterladen.
Thine opened water-skin draw with thee downward, and let the hollows and the heights be level.
With roar and thunder now the germ deposit, Fly round us with thy water-bearing chariot. Turn well thy water-skin unloosened downward, Make, with the waters, heights and hollows level.
Roar! Thunder! Set an embryo! Fly around with your water-bearing chariot.
Drag the water-skin unleashed, facing downward. Let uplands and
lowlands become alike.

Auf, brülle laut und donnre, schaffe Frucht her und flieg umher mit wasserreichem Wagen, Den Wasserschlauch lös' auf und zieh' ihn nieder, gleich mögen sein die Berge und die Thäler.
Brülle, donnere, leg den Keim, fliege herum mit deinem Wasserwagen! Zieh tüchtig den aufgebundenen Schlauch nach unten! Höhen und Niederungen sollten gleich werden.

हे पर्जन्य त्वं महान्तं प्रवृद्धं कोशं कोशस्थानीयं मेघम् उदच उद्गच्छ । उद्गमय वा । तथा कृत्वा नि षिञ्च नीचैः क्षारय । कुल्या: नद्यः विषिताः विष्यूताः सत्यः स्यन्दन्तां प्रवहन्तु पुरस्तात् पूर्वाभिमुखम् । प्रायेण नद्यः प्राच्यः स्यन्दन्ते। घृतेन उदकेन द्यावापृथिवी दिवं च पृथिवीं च व्युन्धि क्लेदय अत्यधिकम् । अघ्न्याभ्यः गोभ्यः सुप्रपाणं सुष्टु प्रकर्षेण पातव्यमुदकं भवतु ॥
“Raise on high the mighty sheath (of rain), pour down (its contents); let the rivers flow unimpeded to the east; saturate with water both heaven and earth, and let there be abundant beverage for the kine.”
Lift up the mighty vessel, pour down water, and let the liberated streams rush forward.
Saturate both the earth and heaven with fatness, and for the cows let there be drink abundant.
Draw the great bucket up and pour it downward, And let the liberated streams flow forward. On all sides drench both heaven and earth with fatness; Let there be for the cows fair pools for drinking.
The great bucket—turn it up, pour it down. Let the brooks, unleashed, flow forward.
Inundate Heaven and Earth with ghee. Let there be a good watering hole for the prized cows.
Heb auf den grossen Eimer, giess herab ihn, vor ihm lass strömen die gelösten Bäche; Mit Fett benetze Himmel du und Erde, und gute Tränke mögen sein den Kühen.
Zieh den großen Eimer empor, gieß ihn aus! Entfesselt sollen die Bäche vorwärts eilen. Netze Erde und Himmel mit Schmalz! Den Kühen soll eine gute Tränke werden.

यत् । प॒र्ज॒न्य॒ । कनि॑क्रदत् । स्त॒नय॑न् । हंसि॑ । दुः॒ऽकृतः॑ । प्रति॑ । इ॒दम् । विश्व॑म् । मो॒द॒ते॒ । यत् । किम् । च॒ । पृ॒थि॒व्याम् । अधि॑ ॥
हे पर्जन्य यत् यदा त्वं कनिक्रदत् अत्यर्थं शब्दयन् स्तनयन् दुष्कृतः पापकृतो मेघान् हंसि विदारयसि तदानीम् इदं विश्वं जगत् प्रति मोदते । विश्वं विशेष्यते । यत्किं च पृथिव्यामधि भूम्यामधिष्ठितं यच्चराचरात्मकं तदिदं विश्वं मोदते हृष्यति । वृष्टेः सर्वजगत्प्रीतिकारणत्वं प्रसिद्धम् ॥
“When, Parjanya, sounding loud and thundering, you destroy the wicked (clouds), this whole (world) rejoices, and all that is upon the earth.”
When thou, with thunder and with roar, Parjanya, smitest sinners down,
This universe exults thereat, yea, all that is upon the earth.
When, O Parjanya, roaring loud, Thou slay'st with thunder wicked men, This universe rejoices then, And everything that is on earth.
When, o Parjanya, constantly roaring, thundering you smash those who do ill,
all of this here, whatever is on the earth, rejoices in response.
Wenn, o Pardschanja, brüllend du und donnernd schlägst der Frevler Schar, so freut sich diese ganze Welt und alles, was auf Erden ist.
Wenn du, Parjanya, brüllend, donnernd die Bösewichter erschlägst, so jubelt dir alles, was da auf Erden ist, zu.
Когда, о Парджанья, ревя,
Гремя, ты убиваешь злодеев,
Это встречает ликованием все,
Что только есть на земле.
अव॑र्षीर्व॒र्षमुदु॒ षू गृ॑भा॒याक॒र्धन्वा॒न्यत्ये॑त॒वा उ॑ । अजी॑जन॒ ओष॑धी॒र्भोज॑नाय॒ कमु॒त प्र॒जाभ्यो॑ऽविदो मनी॒षाम् ॥
अव॑र्षीः । व॒र्षम् । उत् । ऊँ॒ इति॑ । सु । गृ॒भा॒य॒ । अकः॑ । धन्वा॑नि । अति॑ऽए॒त॒वै॒ । ऊँ॒ इति॑ । अजी॑जनः । ओष॑धीः । भोज॑नाय । कम् । उ॒त । प्र॒ऽजाभ्यः॑ । अ॒वि॒दः॒ । म॒नी॒षाम् ॥
इयमतिवृष्टिविमोचनी । हे पर्जन्य त्वम् अवर्षीः वृष्टवानसि । वर्षमुदु षू गृभाय उत्कृष्टं सु सुष्ठु गृभाय गृहाण । परिहरेत्यर्थः। धन्वानि निरुदकप्रदेशान् अकः जलवतः कृतवानसि । किमर्थम् । अत्येतवा उ अतिक्रम्य गन्तुम् । ओषधीः अजीजनः उदपादयः । किमर्थम् । भोजनाय धनाय भोगाय वा । कम् इत्ययं ‘शिशिरं जीवनाय कम्' इतिवत्पादपूरणः ( निरु. १. १० )। उत अपि च प्रजाभ्यः सकाशात् मनीषां स्तुतिम् अविदः प्राप्तवानसि ॥ ॥ २८ ॥
“You have rained; now check well the rain; you have made the deserts capable of being crossed; you have given birth to plural ns for (man's) enjoyment; verily you have obtained laudation from the people.”
Thou hast poured down the rain-flood now withhold it. Thou hast made desert places fit for travel.
Thou hast made herbs to grow for our enjoyment: yea, thou hast won thee praise from living creatures.
Thou hast shed rain; pray now withhold it wholly; Thou hast made passable all desert places. To serve as food thou hast made plants to flourish: And hast received the gratitude of creatures.
You have rained rain: (now) hold it back. You have made the
wastelands able to be traversed.
You have begotten the plants for nourishment, and you have found
(this?) inspired thought for the creatures.
Du liessest Ströme regnen, nun halt inne; die trocknen Steppen machtest du durchschreitbar, Du liessest Kräuter spriessen uns zur Nahrung und hast den Deinen ihr Gebet erhöret.
Du hast regnen lassen, hör auch fein auf! Du hast die Wüsten passierbar gemacht, du hast die Pflanzen zur Speisung hervorgebracht und fandest für die Geschöpfe ein Dankgebet.
Ты вызвал дождь – так прекрати же его вовремя!
Ты сделал пустыни легкопроходимыми,
Ты породил растения для питания,
И ты нашел молитву (благодарности) от (всех) существ.
