ऋषिभरद्वाजो बार्हस्पत्यः
देवताइन्द्रापूषणौ

छन्दगायत्री
इन्द्रा॒ नु पू॒षणा॑ व॒यं स॒ख्याय॑ स्व॒स्तये॑ । हु॒वेम॒ वाज॑सातये ॥
इन्द्रा॑ । नु । पू॒षणा॑ । व॒यम् । स॒ख्याय॑ । स्व॒स्तये॑ । हु॒वेम॑ । वाज॑ऽसातये ॥
इतरेतरयोगात् इन्द्रपूषशब्दयोः उभयत्र द्विवचनम् । इन्द्रापूषणौ देवौ नु अद्य च वयं स्वस्तये सख्याय शोभनाय सखित्वाय वाजसातये वाजस्यान्नस्य बलस्य वा सातये संभजनाय च हुवेम आह्वयाम । स्तवाम ॥
“We invoke you, Indra and Pūṣan, for your friendship, for our well-being, and for the obtaining of food.”
INDRA and Pusan will we call for friend ship and prosperity
And for the winning of the spoil.
Indra and Pūṣan would we—for partnership, for well-being—
call upon—for prize-winning.
Lasst Indra, Puschan rufen uns zur Brüderschaft, zum Wohlergehn, Dass reiche Beute wir empfahn.
Indra und Pusan wollen wir jetzt zur Freundschaft, zum Glück, zum Lohngewinnen anrufen.
Индру и Пушана сейчас мы
Хотим призвать для дружбы,

सोम॑म॒न्य उपा॑सद॒त्पात॑वे च॒म्वो॑: सु॒तम् । क॒र॒म्भम॒न्य इ॑च्छति ॥
सोम॑म् । अ॒न्यः । उप॑ । अ॒स॒द॒त् । पात॑वे । च॒म्वोः॑ । सु॒तम् । क॒र॒म्भम् । अ॒न्यः । इ॒च्छ॒ति॒ ॥
चम्वोः अधिषवणफलकयोः सुतम् अभिषुतं सोमम् अन्यः अनयोरेकतर इन्द्रः पातवे पातुम् उपासदत् उपसीदति । उपगच्छति । अन्यः एकतरः पूषा करम्भं घृतसिक्तं सक्त्वात्मकं हविः भक्षयितुम् इच्छति ॥
“One (of you) approaches to drink the Soma poured out into ladles, the other desires the buttered meal.”
One by the Soma sits to drink juice which the mortar hath expressed:
The other longs for curd and meal.
Soma has the one sat down to, to drink it pressed in the two cups. Porridge does the other one desire.
Zum Soma setzt der eine sich, zu trinken aus dem Becherpaar, Der andre wünschet Gerstenbrei.
Der eine hat sich zum Soma gesetzt, um den in den Preßbrettern ausgepreßten zu trinken; der andere verlangt nach Brei.
Один уселся возле сомы,
Чтобы пить (сок,) выжатый между двух досок,
Другой ищет каши.
अ॒जा अ॒न्यस्य॒ वह्न॑यो॒ हरी॑ अ॒न्यस्य॒ सम्भृ॑ता । ताभ्यां॑ वृ॒त्राणि॑ जिघ्नते ॥
अ॒जाः । अ॒न्यस्य॑ । वह्न॑यः । हरी॒ इति॑ । अ॒न्यस्य॑ । सम्ऽभृ॑ता । ताभ्या॑म् । वृ॒त्राणि॑ । जि॒घ्न॒ते॒ ॥
अनयोरिन्द्रापूष्णोः अन्यस्य एकस्य पूष्णः अजाः छागाः वह्नयः वाहका अश्वाः । अन्यस्य अपरस्येन्द्रस्य संभृता संभृतौ सम्यक् पुष्टौ हरी एतत्संज्ञावश्वौ वाहकौ । स चेन्द्रः ताभ्यां वृत्राणि शत्रून् जिघ्नते हन्ति ॥
“Goats are the bearers of the one, two well-fed horses of the other, and with them he destroys his foes.”
Goats are the team that draws the one: the other hath Bay Steeds at hand;
With both of these he slays the fiends.
Goats are the draft-animals for the one; two fallow bay horses, fully equipped, are for the other;
along with those two (horses) he keeps smashing obstacles.
Den einen fährt der Ziegen Schar, den andern seiner Rosse Paar, Mit diesen schlägt die Feinde er.
Böcke sind des einen Zugtiere, das Falbenpaar in voller Ausrüstung die des anderen; mit dem schlägt er die Feinde.
Козлы – животные, возящие одного,
Пара буланых коней, снаряженных (как надо) – другого.
С их помощью он разбивает препятствия.
यदिन्द्रो॒ अन॑य॒द्रितो॑ म॒हीर॒पो वृष॑न्तमः । तत्र॑ पू॒षाभ॑व॒त्सचा॑ ॥
यत् । इन्द्रः॑ । अन॑यत् । रितः॑ । म॒हीः । अ॒पः । वृष॑न्ऽतमः । तत्र॑ । पू॒षा । अ॒भ॒व॒त् । सचा॑ ॥
यत् यदा वृषन्तमः अतिशयेन वर्षिता इन्द्रः रितः गन्त्रीः महीः महतीः अपः वृष्ट्युदकानि अनयत् इमं लोकं प्रापयति तत्र तदानीं पूषा पोषको देवः सचा अभवत् अस्येन्द्रस्य सहायो भवति ॥
“When the showerer Indra sends down the falling and mighty waters, there is Pūṣan along with him.”
When Indra, wondrous strong, brought down the streams, the mighty waterfloods,
Pusan was standing by his side.
When Indra the most bullish led the streams, the great waters,
then Pūṣan came along.
Als Indra, der gewaltigste, die grossen Fluten rinnen liess, Da stand zur Seite Puschan ihm.
Als Indra, der Bullenhafteste, die strömenden großen Gewässer in ihre Bahnen leitete, da war Pusan dabei.
Когда Индра провел великие воды
(Так,) что они стали проточными, (этот) самый мужественный,
Пушан при этом был (с ним) заодно.
तां पू॒ष्णः सु॑म॒तिं व॒यं वृ॒क्षस्य॒ प्र व॒यामि॑व । इन्द्र॑स्य॒ चा र॑भामहे ॥
ताम् । पू॒ष्णः । सु॒ऽम॒तिम् । व॒यम् । वृ॒क्षस्य॑ । प्र । व॒याम्ऽइ॑व । इन्द्र॑स्य । च॒ । आ । र॒भा॒म॒हे॒ ॥
पूष्णः पोषकस्य देवस्य इन्द्रस्य च तां प्रसिद्धां सुमतिं कल्याणीं मतिमनुग्रहबुद्धिं वृक्षस्य महीरुहस्य प्र वयां प्रकृष्टां दृढां शाखाम् इव वयम् आ रभामहे अवलम्बामहे । आश्रयामह इत्यर्थः ॥
“We depend upon the good-will of Pūṣan, and of Indra, as (we cling) to the branches of a tree.”
To this, to Pusan's favouring love, and Indra's, may we closely cling,
As to a tree's extended bough.
The benevolence of Pūṣan—like the branch of a tree—
and that of Indra we seize hold of.

И Индры мы хватаемся,
Как за ветвь дерева.
उत्पू॒षणं॑ युवामहे॒ऽभीशूँ॑रिव॒ सार॑थिः । म॒ह्या इन्द्र॑ा स्व॒स्तये॑ ॥
उत् । पू॒षण॑म् । यु॒वा॒म॒हे॒ । अ॒भीशू॑न्ऽइव । सार॑थिः । म॒ह्यै । इन्द्र॑म् । स्व॒स्तये॑ ॥
पूषणं पोषकं देवम् इन्द्रं च मह्यै महत्यै स्वस्तये रक्षार्थम् उत् युवामहे उद्योजयामः । उद्योजनमाकर्षणम् । तत्र दृष्टान्तः । सारथिः सूतः अभीशूनिव। अभीशून् रश्मीन् अश्वबन्धनार्थान् यथाकर्षति तद्वत् ॥ ॥ २३ ॥
“We draw to us, for our great welfare, Pūṣan and Indra, as a charioteer (pulls tight) his reins.”
As one who drives a car draws in his reins, may we draw Pusan near,
And Indra, for our great success.
We ease up on Pūṣan—like a charioteer the reins—
and Indra, for great well-being.
Den Puschan ziehn wir fest an uns, wie Zügel, wer den Wagen lenkt, Und Indra uns zu grossem Heil.
Wir lassen wie ein Wagenlenker dem Pusan die Zügel schießen und dem Indra zu großem Glück.
Мы отпускаем Пушана
Как возница – вожжи,
(И) Индру на великое счастье.
