प्र नव्य॑सा॒ सह॑सः सू॒नुमच्छा॑ य॒ज्ञेन॑ गा॒तुमव॑ इ॒च्छमा॑नः । वृ॒श्चद्व॑नं कृ॒ष्णया॑मं॒ रुश॑न्तं वी॒ती होता॑रं दि॒व्यं जि॑गाति ॥
प्र । नव्य॑सा । सह॑सः । सू॒नुम् । अच्छ॑ । य॒ज्ञेन॑ । गा॒तुम् । अवः॑ । इ॒च्छमा॑नः । वृ॒श्चत्ऽव॑नम् । कृ॒ष्णया॑मम् । रुश॑न्तम् । वी॒ती । होता॑रम् । दि॒व्यम् । जि॒गा॒ति॒ ॥
गातुम् उपगन्तव्यं स्तोतव्यं वा सहसः सूनुं बलस्य पुत्रमग्निम् अवः अन्नं रक्षणं वा इच्छमानः इच्छन् स्तोता नव्यसा नवतरेण यज्ञेन युक्तः सन् अच्छ आभिमुख्येन प्र जिगाति प्रकर्षेण गच्छति । कीदृशमग्निम् । वृश्चद्वनं वृक्णं छिन्नं दग्धं वनं येन तादृशं कृष्णयामं कृष्णवर्त्मानं रुशन्तं श्वेतवर्णं वीती वीत्या कान्तेन यज्ञेन होतारं यष्टारं दिव्यं दिवि भवम् ॥
“He who is desirous of food has recourse with a new sacrifice, approachable son of strength (Agni), to you the consumer of forests, the dark-pathed, the bright shining, the ministrant (to the gods) of (sacrificial) food, the divine.”
HE who seeks furtherance and grace to help him goes to the Son of Strength with newest worship,
Calling the heavenly Priest to share the banquet, who rends the wood, bright, with his blackened pathway.
The man who seeks success and aid approaches The son of strength, with feast and newest worship. He rends the wood and has a blackened pathway, The brightly radiant and divine invoker.
Forth to the son of strength with newer (speech), with a sacrifice, seeking a way, seeking help,
he [=the mortal] goes in pursuit—to the heavenly Hotar, wood-hewing, gleaming but with a black course.
Wer Gunst begehrt und Wohlergehn, der eilet mit neuem Opfer hin zum Sohn der Stärke, Mit Opfermahl zum lichten Himmelspriester, der Holz zerspaltet, schwarze Bahnen wandert.
Zum Sohn der Kraft tritt der Hotri heran mit dem jüngsten Opfer, guten Fortgang und Gunstheischend, unter Zureden zum himmlischen Hotri, dem Holzspalter, dessen Weg schwarz ist, dem Weißglänzenden.

सः । श्वि॒ता॒नः । ता॒न्य॒तुः । रो॒च॒न॒ऽस्थाः । अ॒जरे॑भिः । नान॑दत्ऽभिः । यवि॑ष्ठः । यः । पा॒व॒कः । पु॒रु॒ऽतमः॑ । पु॒रूणि॑ । पृ॒थूनि॑ । अ॒ग्निः । अ॒नु॒ऽयाति॑ । भर्व॑न् ॥
सः अग्निः श्वितानः श्वेतमानः श्वेतवर्णो वर्तते । तन्यतुः शब्दकारी रोचनस्थाः। रोचन्ते अस्मिन् ग्रहनक्षत्रादीनीति रोचनम् अन्तरिक्षम् । तत्र स्थितः अजरेभिः जरारहितैः नानदद्भिः अत्यर्थं शब्दं कुर्वद्भिर् मरुद्भिर् युक्तो रश्मिभिर् वा यविष्ठः युवतमः । यः पावकः शोधकः अग्निः पुरुतमः अतिशयेन प्रभूतः सन् पुरूणि बहूनि पृथूनि स्थूलानि काष्ठानि भर्वन् भक्षयन् अनुयाति अनुगच्छति स इत्थमित्थं वर्तत इति पूर्वत्र संबन्धः ॥
“(You who are) white-hued, vociferous, abiding in the firmament, (associated) with the imperishable, resounding (winds), the youngest (of the gods), Agni, who, purifying and most vast, proceeds, feeding upon numerous and substantial (forests).”
White-hued and thundering he dwells in splendour, Most Youthful, with the loudvoiced and eternal-
Agni, most variform, the Purifier, who follows crunching many ample forests.
The shining thunderer who dwells in lustre, With his unaging, roaring flames, most youthful, Refulgent Agni, frequently recurring, Goes after many spacious woods and chews them.
White robed is he, thundering, standing in the firmament.
Youngest, with loud-sounding immortal ones,
Who, purifying, most manifold,
Agni, marcheth devouring many broad (forests).
He is (like) the brightening thunder abiding in the luminous realm, the youngest one with his unaging, ever-roaring (flames),
the pure one, the latest fire of many, who travels along many broad
expanses as he devours.
Der glänzend, donnernd steht im hohen Lichtraum, der jüngste mit den ew'gen Prasselflammen, Der helle Agni, welcher kauend nachgeht, der vielbegabte, vielen grossen Hölzern.
Hellglänzend wie der Donner, im Lichte weilend mit den brüllenden alterlosen Flammen ist dieser jüngste Agni, der Lautere, der unter Vielen der Erste die vielen, breiten Flächen fressend entlang zieht.
Он – светящийся гром, пребывающий в светлом пространстве,
С нестареющими шумящими (языками пламени), самый юный.
Кто очищающий, лучший из многих, (этот) Агни
Следует (своим путем), пожирая многие широкие (равнины).
वि ते॒ विष्व॒ग्वात॑जूतासो अग्ने॒ भामा॑सः शुचे॒ शुच॑यश्चरन्ति । तु॒वि॒म्र॒क्षासो॑ दि॒व्या नव॑ग्वा॒ वना॑ वनन्ति धृष॒ता रु॒जन्त॑: ॥
वि । ते॒ । विष्व॑क् । वात॑ऽजूतासः । अ॒ग्ने॒ । भामा॑सः । शु॒चे॒ । शुच॑यः । च॒र॒न्ति॒ । तु॒वि॒ऽम्र॒क्षासः॑ । दि॒व्याः । नव॑ऽग्वाः । वना॑ । व॒न॒न्ति॒ । धृ॒ष॒ता । रु॒जन्तः॑ ॥
हे शुचे शुद्ध दीप्त वा अग्ने ते त्वदीयाः वातजूतासः वातेन प्रेरिताः शुचयः निर्मलाः भामासः दीप्तयः विष्वक् सर्वतः वि चरन्ति विविधं गच्छन्ति । तुविम्रक्षासः बहूनि काष्ठानि स्पृशन्तः दिव्याः दिवि द्योतमानेऽग्नौ भवाः नवग्वाः नूतनगमनास्ते रश्मयः वना वनानि वनन्ति संभजन्ते । दहन्तीत्यर्थः । किं कुर्वन्तः । धृषता धर्षकेण तेजसा रुजन्तः वनानि भञ्जयन्तः ॥
“Pure Agni, your bright flames, fanned by the wind, spread wide in every diection, consuming abundant (fuel); divine, fresh-rising, they plural y upon the woods, enveloping them in lustre.”
Incited by the wind thy flames, O Agni, move onward, Pure One! pure, in all directions.
Thy most destructive heavenly Navagvas break the woods down and devastate them boldly.
Thy flames when driven by the wind, O Agni, Disperse, O pure one, pure in all directions; And thy divine Navagvas, most destructive, Lay low the woods and devastate them boldly.
Sped by the wind, your flaming beams, o flaming Agni, spread out wide asunder.
Powerfully destructive, (like) the heavenly Navagvas, they conquer the woods, breaking them boldly—
Nach vielen Seiten wandern windgetrieben, o heller Agni, deine hellen Strahlen, Geschart zu Neunen, himmlisch vielverzehrend, bewält'gen sie die Wälder kühn zermalmend.
Vom Winde getrieben gehen deine hellen Lohen, du heller Agni, nach allen Seiten auseinander. Die mächtig zerreibenden Flammen überwinden die Hölzer wie die himmlischen Navagva´s sie herzhaft zerbrechend.
Гонимые ветром, о Агни, во все стороны
Расходятся твои светлые лучи, о светлый.
Мощно разрушающие, (словно) небесные Навагва,
Они торжествуют над деревьями, дерзко ломая (их).
ये ते॑ शु॒क्रास॒: शुच॑यः शुचिष्म॒: क्षां वप॑न्ति॒ विषि॑तासो॒ अश्वा॑: । अध॑ भ्र॒मस्त॑ उर्वि॒या वि भा॑ति या॒तय॑मानो॒ अधि॒ सानु॒ पृश्ने॑: ॥
ये । ते॒ । शु॒क्रासः॑ । शुच॑यः । शु॒चि॒ष्मः॒ । क्षाम् । वप॑न्ति । विऽसि॑तासः । अश्वाः॑ । अध॑ । भ्र॒मः । ते॒ । उ॒र्वि॒या । वि । भा॒ति॒ । या॒तय॑मानः । अधि॑ । सानु॑ । पृश्नेः॑ ॥
हे शुचिष्मः दीप्तिमन्नग्ने ते तव शुक्रासः शुभ्राः ये शुचयः दीप्तयः क्षां पृथिवीं भूमिं वपन्ति मुण्डयन्ति । केशस्थानीयानोषधिवनस्पतीन् दहन्तीत्यर्थः । ‘ अग्निर्ह दाति रोमा पृथिव्याः' (ऋ. सं. १. ६५. ४ ) इति निगमान्तरम् । ते रश्मयः विषितासः विमुक्ताः अश्वाः इव इतस्ततो गच्छन्तीति शेषः । अध अस्मिन् काले ते त्वदीयः भ्रमः भ्रमणशीलो ज्वालासमूहः पृश्नेः नानारूपाया भूमेः अधि उपरि सानु समुच्छ्रितं देशं पर्वताग्रादिकं प्रति यातयमानः स्वकीयमग्रं व्यापारयन् उर्विया उरु बहुलं वि भाति विशेषेण प्रकाशते ॥
“Resplendent Agni, your bright rays, horses let loose (from the rein), shear the earth; your (band of flame), mounting above the high-lands of the many-tinted (earth), blazes fiercely.”
Thy pure white horses from their bonds are loosened: O Radiant One, they shear the ground beneath them,
And far and wide shines out thy flame, and flickers rapidly moving over earth's high ridges.
Thy steeds, the bright, the pure, O radiant Agni, Let loose speed on and shave the ground beneath them. Thy whirling flame then widely shines refulgent, The highest ridges of earth's surface reaching.
Your flaming flames, o possessor of flame, which shear the earth— (flames) like unharnessed horses.
Then your flickering radiates forth widely, marshaling itself on the back of the dappled one [=earth].
Es scheren deine losgelassnen Rosse, die hellen, lichten, leuchtenden das Land ab, Und dann erstrahlet weit dein Flammenwirbel, der bunten Erde Fläche überfahrend.
Wenn deine leuchtenden hellen Rosse, du Leuchtender, losgekoppelt den Boden abscheren, dann erglänzt deine Lohe weithin über den Rücken der bunten Erde, um die Wette laufend.
Твои сверкающие светлые кони, о светящийся,
Которые стригут землю, когда отвязаны ... –
Вот твой водоворот ярко сверкает далеко,
Выстраивая ряды на спине пестрой (земли).
अध॑ जि॒ह्वा पा॑पतीति॒ प्र वृष्णो॑ गोषु॒युधो॒ नाशनि॑: सृजा॒ना । शूर॑स्येव॒ प्रसि॑तिः क्षा॒तिर॒ग्नेर्दु॒र्वर्तु॑र्भी॒मो द॑यते॒ वना॑नि ॥
अध॑ । जि॒ह्वा । पा॒प॒ती॒ति॒ । प्र । वृष्णः॑ । गो॒षु॒ऽयुधः॑ । न । अ॒शनिः॑ । सृ॒जा॒ना । शूर॑स्यऽइव । प्रऽसि॑तिः । क्षा॒तिः । अ॒ग्नेः । दुः॒ऽवर्तुः॑ । भी॒मः । द॒य॒ते॒ । वना॑नि ॥
अध अपि च वृष्णः वर्षितुरग्नेः जिह्वा ज्वाला प्र पापतीति प्रकर्षेण पुनःपुनः पतति गच्छति । तत्र दृष्टान्तः । गोषुयुधो नाशनिः सृजाना । असुरैरपहृतास गोषु युध्यन्निन्द्रो गोषुयुत् । तस्मात् सृज्यमानाशनिर्वज्र इव । तथा शूरस्येव शौर्योपेतस्य नरस्य प्रसितिः प्रबन्धनं यथान्यैः दुःसहमेवम् अग्नेः क्षातिः ज्वाला सोढुमशक्येत्यर्थः । क्षीयन्ते दह्यन्तेऽस्यामोषधवनस्पतय इति क्षायतेरधिकरणे क्तिन् । अपि च दुर्वर्तुः दुर्वारोऽन्यैर्वारयितुमशक्यः भीमः भयंकरोऽग्निः वनानि दयते दहति । दयतिरत्र दहतिकर्मा ॥।
“The flame of the showerer (Agni), repeatedly descends like the hurled thunderbolt of the rescuer of the cattle; like the prowess of a hero is the destroying (energy) of Agni; irresistible and fearful, he consumes the forests.”
Forth darts the Bull's tongue like the sharp stone weapon discharged by him who fights to win the cattle.
Agni's fierce flame is like a hero's onset: dread and resistless he destroys the forests.
When the bull's tongue darts forward like the missile Discharged by him who fights the cows to capture, Like hero's onset is the flame of Agni: Resistless, dreadful, he consumes the forests.
Then the tongue of the bull keeps flying forth, like a cattle-raider’s missile let loose.
Like the onslaught of a champion is the ardor of Agni. The fearsome one, difficult to obstruct, fragments the woods.
Dann schiesset schnell hervor des Stieres Zunge, der kämpft um Kühe, gleich geschossnem Blitzstrahl, Wie Helden-Andrang ist des Agni Flamme; unhemmbar, furchtbar zehrt er auf die Wälder.

Пыл Агни, словно выстрел героя;

आ । भा॒नुना॑ । पार्थि॑वानि । ज्रयां॑सि । म॒हः । तो॒दस्य॑ । धृ॒ष॒ता । त॒त॒न्थ॒ । सः । बा॒ध॒स्व॒ । अप॑ । भ॒या । सहः॑ऽभिः । स्पृधः॑ । व॒नु॒ष्यन् । व॒नुषः॑ । नि । जू॒र्व॒ ॥
हे अग्ने भानुना दीप्त्या पार्थिवानि पृथिव्यां भवानि ज्रयांसि ॥ ज्रयतिर्गतिकर्मा ॥ गन्तव्यानि स्थानानि महः महतः तोदस्य प्रेरकस्य धृषता धर्षकेण रश्मिना सह श्रा ततन्थ अस्तृणासि आच्छादयसि । सः त्वं भया भयकरणानि अप बाधस्वः। तथा सहोभिः अभिभवनसमर्थैर्बलैस्तेजोभिर्वा स्पृधः स्पर्धमानान् वनुष्यन् हिंसन् वनुषः हिंसकान् । शत्रूनिति । नि जूर्व निजहि ॥ जूर्वतिर्हन्तिकर्मा ॥
“You overspread the accessible plural ces of the earth with light by the energy of you powerful, exciting (influence); do you disperse all perils, and, baffing (our) adversaries by your mighty (powers), destroy (our) foes.”
Thou with the sunlight of the great Impeller hast boldly over-spread the earth's expanses.
So drive away with conquering might all perils. fighting out foemen burn up those who harm us.
Thou with the sunbeams of the great impeller, Hast boldly overspread the earthly spaces. So with thy mighty powers drive off all terrors; Attack our rivals and burn down our foemen,
With the radiance of the great goad [=sun] you stretch across the earthly expanses boldly.
Thrust away fears with your strengths; rapaciously grind down the
rapacious rivals.
Du hast bestrahlt der Erde weite Fluren voll Kühnheit mit dem Licht des Rossestachlers; Drum treibe weg durch deine Kraft Gefahren, bekämpfend Feinde, brenn die Kämpfer nieder.
Mit dem Glanz des großen Treibstockes hast du kühnlich die irdischen Bahnen durchzogen. Treibe du mit Macht die Gefahren hinweg, vertilge die Nebenbuhler, eifernd die Eiferer!

सः । चि॒त्र॒ । चि॒त्रम् । चि॒तय॑न्तम् । अ॒स्मे इति॑ । चित्र॑ऽक्षत्र । चि॒त्रऽत॑मम् । व॒यः॒ऽधाम् । च॒न्द्रम् । र॒यिम् । पु॒रु॒ऽवीर॑म् । बृ॒हन्त॑म् । चन्द्र॑ । च॒न्द्राभिः॑ । गृ॒ण॒ते । यु॒व॒स्व॒ ॥
हे चित्र चायनीय हे चित्रक्षेत्र विचित्रबल चायनीयधन वा हे चन्द्र आह्लादकाग्ने सः तादृशस्त्वं चन्द्राभिः आह्लादयित्रीभिः स्तुतिभिः गृणते स्तुवते । वचनव्यत्ययः । स्तुवद्भ्यः अस्मे अस्मभ्यं दातुं रयिं धनं युवस्व पृथक् कुरु । कीदृशं रयिम् । चित्रं चायनीयं चितयन्तं ज्ञापयन्तम् । धनेन हि पुरुषः प्रख्यायते। चित्रतमम् अतिशयेनाश्चर्यभूतं वयोधां वयसोऽन्नस्य धातारं प्रदातारं चन्द्रम् आह्लादकं पुरुवीरं पुरुभिर्बहुभिर्वीरैः पुत्रपौत्रादिभिर्युक्तं बृहन्तं महान्तम् । ईदृशं धनमस्मभ्यं प्रयच्छेत्यर्थः ॥ ॥ ८ ॥
“Wonderful Agni, of wonderful strength, bestower of delight, grant to us, and to him who praises you with gratifying (praises), wonderful, most wonderful riches, conferring fame, supplying food, comprehending male descendants,d electable and infinite.”
Wondrous! of wondrous power! give to the singer wealth wondrous, marked, most wonderful, life-giving.
Wealth bright, O Bright One, vast, with many heroes, give with thy bright flames to the man who lauds thee.
Give us, O splendid one of splendid lordship, Wealth giving splendour, splendid, life-imparting. Bestow bright wealth and vast with many heroes, Bright god, with thy bright flames, upon the singer.
O bright one with bright dominion—(that which is) bright, brightest, showing brightly to us, conferring vigor:
wealth, glittering, lofty, conferring many heroes—o glittering one, with your glittering (flames) bind (that) to the singer.
O heller, helles Gut, das hell erstrahlet, das hellstes Leben schafft, o Herr des Hellen, Das glänzend ist, an Helden reich, erhaben, verschaff dem Sänger, glänzend du, mit Glänzen.
Gib uns, du Glänzender von Macht glänzenden, Glanz gebenden, glänzendsten, stärkeverleihenden Reichtum; gib dem Sänger blinkenden großen Reichtum an vielen Söhnen mit deinen blinkenden Flammen, du Blinkender, zu eigen!
Ты, о яркий, (дай) нам яркое заметное (богатство),
О обладатель яркой власти, самое яркое, наделяющее жизненной силой!
Сверкающее богатство изобильное многими мужьями, высокое,
О сверкающий, дай певцу (своими) сверкающими (языками пламени)!
