छन्दत्रिष्टुप्
उदु॒ ब्रह्मा॑ण्यैरत श्रव॒स्येन्द्रं॑ सम॒र्ये म॑हया वसिष्ठ । आ यो विश्वा॑नि॒ शव॑सा त॒तानो॑पश्रो॒ता म॒ ईव॑तो॒ वचां॑सि ॥
उत् । ऊँ॒ इति॑ । ब्रह्मा॑णि । ऐ॒र॒त॒ । श्र॒व॒स्या । इन्द्र॑म् । स॒ऽम॒र्ये । म॒ह॒य॒ । व॒सि॒ष्ठ॒ । आ । यः । विश्वा॑नि । शव॑सा । त॒तान॑ । उ॒प॒ऽश्रो॒ता । मे॒ । ईव॑तः । वचां॑सि ॥
श्रवस्या अन्नेच्छया ब्रह्माणि स्तोत्राणि हवींषि च इन्द्रार्थम् उत् ऐरत सर्व ऋषय इति शेषः । उ इति पूरणः । हे वसिष्ठ त्वमपि समर्ये यज्ञे इन्द्रं महय स्तोत्रेण हविषा च पूजय । अपि च यः इन्द्रः विश्वानि भुवनानि शवसा बलेन आ ततान सः ईवतः उपगमनवतः मे मम वचांसि स्तुतिरूपाणि वाक्यानि उपश्रोता भवतु ॥
“(The sages) have offered prayers to (Indra) for food, worship Indra, Vasiṣṭha at the sacrifice; may thatIndra who has spread out all (the regions) by his might, be the hearer of my words when approaching him.”
PRAYERS have been offered up through love of glory: Vasistha, honour Indra in the battle.
He who with might extends through all existence hears words which I, his faithful servant, utter.
The sacred formulations have risen up, seeking fame. Magnify Indra at the encounter, o Vasiṣṭha.
He who stretches over all with his vast power will hearken to the words of such as me.
Empor schon steigen preisend die Gebete, den Indra preise bei dem Fest, Vasischtha; Er, der mit Kraft die ganze Welt erfüllte, erhöre, was ich treugesinnter rede.
Die erbaulichen Reden stiegen wetteifernd auf. Verherrliche, Vasistha, im Wettbewerb den Indra! Er, der sich mit seiner Macht über alle Räume ausgedehnt hat, er wird die Worte von meinesgleichen erhören.
Ввысь устремились священные слова из желания славы.
Индру возвеличь в собрании, о Васиштха!
Кто с силой своей протянулся через все (миры),
(Тот) услышит речи (певца,) подобного мне.
अया॑मि॒ घोष॑ इन्द्र दे॒वजा॑मिरिर॒ज्यन्त॒ यच्छु॒रुधो॒ विवा॑चि । न॒हि स्वमायु॑श्चिकि॒ते जने॑षु॒ तानीदंहां॒स्यति॑ पर्ष्य॒स्मान् ॥
अया॑मि । घोषः॑ । इ॒न्द्र॒ । दे॒वऽजा॑मिः । इ॒र॒ज्यन्त॑ । यत् । शु॒रुधः॑ । विऽवा॑चि । न॒हि । स्वम् । आयुः॑ । चि॒कि॒ते । जने॑षु । तानि॑ । इत् । अंहां॑सि । अति॑ । प॒र्षि॒ । अ॒स्मान् ॥
यत् यदा शुरुधः । शुचं रुन्धन्तीति शुरुध ओषध्यः। इरज्यन्त वर्धन्ते तदा हे इन्द्र त्वदर्थं विवाचि स्तोतरि देवजामिः देवानां बन्धुः घोषः । स्तुतिरूपः शब्दो घोषः । अयामि अकारि । अपि च जनेषु मध्ये केनापि स्वमायुः स्वजीवितं नहि चिकिते न ज्ञायते । यैः आयुः क्षीयते तानीत् तानि सर्वाण्येव अंहांसि पापानि अस्मान् अति पर्षि अतिपारय ॥
“When, Indra, the plural nts grow up, the sound (of praise) acceptable to the gods, (uttered) by theworshipper, has been raised; by no one among men, is his own life understood; convey us beyond all those sins(by which life is shortened).”
A cry was raised which reached the Gods, O Indra, a cry to them to send us strength in combat.
None among men knows his own life's duration: bear us in safety over these our troubles.
The cry that is the gods’ kinsman has been offered, Indra, as the rich spoils were put in order at the verbal contest.
Because (the length of) their own lifetime is not perceptible to people, carry us across just these straits.
Der gottverwandte Ruf erscholl, o Indra, als in der Schlacht Befehl die Helden gaben; Nicht ja erkennt der Mensch des Lebens Länge; so führ uns über diese Todesnöthe.
Das den Göttern vertraute Geschrei hat sich erhoben, o Indra, da über die Gewinner im Wettstreit entschieden wird; denn unter den Menschen wird die eigene Lebensdauer nicht gekannt. So hilf du über diese Ängste hinweg!
Вознесся крик, о Индра, родственный богам,
Когда назначались награды в словесном состязании.
Ведь тесен собственный срок жизни среди людей –
Так перевези нас через эти трудности!
यु॒जे रथं॑ ग॒वेष॑णं॒ हरि॑भ्या॒मुप॒ ब्रह्मा॑णि जुजुषा॒णम॑स्थुः । वि बा॑धिष्ट॒ स्य रोद॑सी महि॒त्वेन्द्रो॑ वृ॒त्राण्य॑प्र॒ती ज॑घ॒न्वान् ॥
यु॒जे । रथ॑म् । गो॒ऽएष॑णम् । हरि॑ऽभ्याम् । उप॑ । ब्रह्मा॑णि । जु॒जु॒षा॒णम् । अ॒स्थुः॒ । वि । बा॒धि॒ष्ट॒ । स्यः । रोद॑सी॒ इति॑ । म॒हि॒ऽत्वा । इन्द्रः॑ । वृ॒त्राणि॑ । अ॒प्र॒ति । ज॒घ॒न्वान् ॥
गवेषणं गवां प्रापकमिन्द्रस्य रथं हरिभ्याम् इन्द्रवाहाभ्यां युजे स्तोत्रैरहं युनज्मि । ब्रह्माणि स्तोत्राणि जुजुषाणं परिवारैः सेव्यमानमिन्द्रम् उप अस्थुः उपातिष्ठन्त । स्यः सोऽयमिन्द्रः महित्वा महत्त्वेन रोदसी द्यावापृथिव्यौ वि बाधिष्ट व्यबाधिष्ट च । अपि च इन्द्रः वृत्राणि शत्रून् अप्रतिद्वन्द्वानि जघन्वान् हतवान् ॥
“I harness (by praises) the kine-bestowing chariot (of Indra) with his horses; (my) prayers have reachedhim who is plural ased (by devotion); he has surpassed in magnitude heaven and earth, slaying the unresistingenemies.”
The Bays, the booty-seeking car I harness: my prayers have reached him who accepts them gladly.
Indra, when he had slain resistless foemen, forced with his might the two world-halves asunder.
The sacred formulations have approached the one who has enjoyed (them), (for him) to yoke the cow-seeking chariot with his two fallow bays.
This Indra thrust apart the two world-halves with his greatness, after he smashed the unopposable obstacles.
Ich schirr' an deinen Siegeswagen Rosse, Gebete stiegen auf zu dem Erhörer; An Erd' und Himmel stösset Indra's Grösse, wenn er die Feinde schlägt, die unbesiegten.
Um seinen auf Rinderbeute ausziehenden Wagen mit den Falben zu bespannen, sind ihm die erbaulichen Reden genaht, der sich daran erfreut. Indra drängte beide Welthälften durch seine Größe auseinander, als er die Dämonen erschlagen hatte, denen keiner gewachsen war.
Чтоб запрячь пару буланых коней в (его) колесницу, направляющуюся за коровами,
Молитвы приблизились к нему, наслаждающемуся (ими).
Этот Индра раздвинул (своим) величием две половины вселенной,
Убивая врагов, не имеющих себе равных.
आप॑श्चित्पिप्युः स्त॒र्यो॒३॒॑ न गावो॒ नक्ष॑न्नृ॒तं ज॑रि॒तार॑स्त इन्द्र । या॒हि वा॒युर्न नि॒युतो॑ नो॒ अच्छा॒ त्वं हि धी॒भिर्दय॑से॒ वि वाजा॑न् ॥
आपः॑ । चि॒त् । पि॒प्युः॒ । स्त॒र्यः॑ । न । गावः॑ । नक्ष॑न् । ऋ॒तम् । ज॒रि॒तारः॑ । ते॒ । इ॒न्द्र॒ । या॒हि । वा॒युः । न । नि॒ऽयुतः॑ । नः॒ । अच्छ॑ । त्वम् । हि । धी॒ऽभिः । दय॑से । वि । वाजा॑न् ॥
हे इन्द्र त्वत्प्रसादात् आपश्चित् आपः स्तर्यो न गावः स्तर्यो वशा गाव इव पिप्युः वर्धन्ताम् । अप्रसूता गावो मांसला भवन्ति हि । ते तव जरितारः स्तोतारश्च ऋतम् उदकं नक्षन् व्याप्नुवन् । अपि च त्वं नः अस्मान् नियुतः वायुर्न वायुरिव अच्छ याहि अभियाहि । त्वं हि धीभिः प्रज्ञाभिः कर्मभिर्वा वाजान् अन्नानि वि दयसे स्तोतृभ्यः प्रयच्छसि ॥
“May the waters increase like young; may your worshippers, Indra, possess water (in abundance); comelike the wind with the Niyut steeds, for you, (propitiated) by holy rites, verily bestow upon us food.”
Like barren cows, moreover, swelled the waters: the singen sought thy holy rite, O Indra.
Come unto us as with his team comes Vayu: thou, through our solemn hymns bestowest booty.
Even the waters swell, (though) barren like barren cows. The singers attain the truth [=a true hymn] for you.
Drive to our teams [=hymns] like the Wind, for you distribute the prizes along with visionary thoughts.
Der Trank ward fett wie unbelegte Kühe, ihr Werk lass, Indra, deine Sänger üben; Wie Vaju komm zu unsern Liederketten; denn liedgelockt vertheilest du die Beute.
Selbst die Wasser schwollen an, die unfruchtbar wie Kühe waren. Deine Sänger, Indra, sind ans rechte Werk gegangen. Komm wie Vayu die Niyut zu uns lenkend, denn du teilst die Belohnungen nach Erwarten aus.
Даже воды набухли, (хотя были) словно яловые коровы.
Отправились на правое дело певцы твои, о Индра.
Приезжай к нам, словно Ваю (направляя свои) упряжки -
Ведь за произведения ты раздаешь награды!
ते त्वा॒ मदा॑ इन्द्र मादयन्तु शु॒ष्मिणं॑ तुवि॒राध॑सं जरि॒त्रे । एको॑ देव॒त्रा दय॑से॒ हि मर्ता॑न॒स्मिञ्छू॑र॒ सव॑ने मादयस्व ॥
ते । त्वा॒ । मदाः॑ । इ॒न्द्र॒ । मा॒द॒य॒न्तु॒ । शु॒ष्मिण॑म् । तु॒वि॒ऽराध॑सम् । ज॒रि॒त्रे । एकः॑ । दे॒व॒ऽत्रा । दय॑से । हि । मर्ता॑न् । अ॒स्मिन् । शू॒र॒ । सव॑ने । मा॒द॒य॒स्व॒ ॥
हे इन्द्र त्वा त्वां ते एते मदाः मदकराः सोमाः मादयन्तु। अपि च जरित्रे स्तोत्रे शुष्मिणं बलवन्तं तुविराधसे बहुधनं पुत्रं प्रयच्छतीति शेषः । हे शूर त्वं देवत्रा देवेषु एकः एव मर्तान् मनुष्यान् दयसे हि । दयतिरनुकम्पार्थः । अस्मिन् सवने यज्ञे मादयस्व ॥
“May these inebriating draughts exhilarate you, Indra; bestow upon the praiser (a son vigorous andwealthy); for you alone among the gods are compassionate to mortals; be exhilarated here at this sacrifice.”
So may these gladdening draughts rejoice thee, Indra, the Mighty, very bounteous to the singer.
Alone among the Gods thou pitiest mortals: O Hero, make thee glad at this libation.
Let these exhilarating drinks make you exhilarated, o Indra, the
tempestuous one, powerfully generous to the singer,
for alone among the gods you distribute to mortals. At this pressing, o champion, make yourself exhilarated.
Die Tränke mögen, Indra, dich berauschen, dich starken, der du Sängern reichlich spendest; Denn du, kein Gott sonst, nimmst dich an der Menschen; berausche dich, o Held, bei diesem Mahle.
Diese Rauschtränke sollen dich, Indra, den Mutvollen, berauschen, der du dem Sänger viel spendest, denn du allein unter den Göttern nimmst dich der Sterblichen an. Berausche dich, o Held, bei dieser Trankspende!
Пусть опьянят тебя, о Индра, эти пьянящие соки,
(Тебя,) буйного, сильно одаривающего певца!
Ведь ты один среди богов заботишься о смертных!
Опьяняйся, о герой, на этом выжимании!
ए॒वेदिन्द्रं॒ वृष॑णं॒ वज्र॑बाहुं॒ वसि॑ष्ठासो अ॒भ्य॑र्चन्त्य॒र्कैः । स न॑: स्तु॒तो वी॒रव॑द्धातु॒ गोम॑द्यू॒यं पा॑त स्व॒स्तिभि॒: सदा॑ नः ॥
ए॒व । इत् । इन्द्र॑म् । वृष॑णम् । वज्र॑ऽबाहुम् । वसि॑ष्ठासः । अ॒भि । अ॒र्च॒न्ति॒ । अ॒र्कैः । सः । नः॒ । स्तु॒तः । वी॒रऽव॑त् । धातु॑ । गोऽम॑त् । यू॒यम् । पा॒त॒ । स्व॒स्तिऽभिः॑ । सदा॑ । नः॒ ॥
वसिष्ठासः वसिष्ठाः वज्रबाहुं वज्रकल्पबाहुं वृषणं कामानां वर्षितारम् इन्द्रम् एवेत् उक्तेन प्रकारेणैव अर्कैः अर्चनीयैः स्तोत्रैः अभ्यर्चन्ति अभिपूजयन्ति । स्तुतः सः इन्द्रः नः अस्मभ्यं वीरवत् पुत्रादियुक्तं गोमत् गोयुक्तं च धनं धातु ददातु । स्पष्टमन्यत् ॥ ॥ ७ ॥
“In this manner the Vasiṣṭhas glorify with hymns Indra, the showerer, the bearer of the thunderbolt; mayhe so glorified grant us wealth, comprising male posterity and cattle; and do you ever cherish us with blessingṣ”
Thus the Vasisthas glorify with praises Indra, the Powerful whose arm wields thunder.
Praised, may he guard our wealth in kine and heroes. Ye Gods, preserve us evermore with blessings.
In this way, just to Indra the bull with the mace in his arm do the Vasiṣṭhas chant with chants.
Let him, praised, establish (wealth) consisting of men and of cows for us. – Do you protect us always with your blessings.
So ja besingen Indra die Vasischtha's den Stier mit Liedern, der im Arm den Blitz hält; Er schütze Mann und Rind uns, hochgepriesen; ihr Götter, schützt uns stets mit eurem Segen.
Also besingen die Vasistha´s mit Lobgesängen den Bullen Indra, der die Keule im Arm hat. Gepriesen soll er uns Besitz von Söhnen und Rindern bringen! - Behütet ihr uns immerdar mit eurem Segen!
Вот так Индру, быка, громовержца,
Воспевают в песнях Васиштхи.
Восхваленный, пусть даст он нам богатство из героев, из коров!
Защищайте вы нас всегда (своими) милостями!
