देवतावास्तोष्पतिः

छन्दगायत्री
अ॒मी॒व॒हा वा॑स्तोष्पते॒ विश्वा॑ रू॒पाण्या॑वि॒शन् । सखा॑ सु॒शेव॑ एधि नः ॥
अ॒मी॒व॒ऽहा । वा॒स्तोः॒ । प॒ते॒ । विश्वा॑ । रू॒पाणि॑ । आ॒ऽवि॒शन् । सखा॑ । सु॒ऽशेवः॑ । ए॒धि॒ । नः॒ ॥
हे वास्तोष्पते गृहस्य पालकैतत्संज्ञक देव अमीवहा अमीवानां रोगाणां नाशकस्त्वं विश्वा विश्वानि बहूनि रूपाण्याविशन् प्रविशन् ।' यद्यद्रूपं कामयते तत्तद्देवता विशति' (निरु. १०.१७) इति यास्कः । नः अस्माकं सखा मित्रभूतः सुशेवः सुष्ठु सुखकरः एधि भव ॥
“Protector of the dwelling, remover of disease, assuming all (kinds of) forms, be to us a friend, thegranter of happiness.”
VASTOSPATI, who killest all disease and wearest every form,
Be an auspicious Friend to us.
Destroying affliction, o Lord of the Dwelling Place, entering all forms, be a companion well disposed to us.
Der Lieder du tilgst, o Wohnungsherr, du gehst in alle Formen ein, sei uns ein heilbegabter Freund.
Herr der Wohnstatt, der du die Krankheiten vertreibst und alle Gestalten annimmst, sei uns ein gütiger Freund!
О Вастошпати, убивающий болезни,
Проникающий во все формы,
Будь нам другом, очень благосклонным!
यद॑र्जुन सारमेय द॒तः पि॑शङ्ग॒ यच्छ॑से । वी॑व भ्राजन्त ऋ॒ष्टय॒ उप॒ स्रक्वे॑षु॒ बप्स॑तो॒ नि षु स्व॑प ॥
यत् । अ॒र्जु॒न॒ । सा॒र॒मे॒य॒ । द॒तः । पि॒श॒ङ्ग॒ । यच्छ॑से । विऽइ॑व । भ्रा॒ज॒न्ते॒ । ऋ॒ष्टयः॑ । उप॑ । स्रक्वे॑षु । नि । सु । स्व॒प॒ ॥
हे अर्जुन श्वेत हे सारमेय । सरमा नाम देवशुनी । तस्याः कुलोद्भव हे पिशङ्ग केषुचिदङ्गेषु पिङ्गलवर्णैवंभूत हे शुनक त्वं दतः दन्तान् यत् यदा यच्छसे विवृणोषि । अस्मान् दुष्टुमित्यर्थः । तदानीं वीव भ्राजन्त ऋष्टयः यथायुधानि विशेषेण भासन्ते तथा उप अस्मत्समीपे बप्सतः भक्षयतस्तव दन्ताः स्रक्वेषु स्रक्वासु भासन्ते । स्रक्वाशब्द ओष्ठप्रदेशविशेषवाचीत्यर्थः । तथाभूतस्त्वमिदानीं सु सुष्ठु नि स्वप नितरां निद्रां कुरु ॥
“White offspring of Saramā, with tawny limbs, althogh barking you display your teeth against me,bristling like lances in your gums, nevertheless, to quietly to sleep.”
When, O bright Son of Sarama, thou showest, tawny-hued! thy teeth,
They gleam like lances' points within thy mouth when thou wouldst bite; go thou to steep.
When, o silvery son of Saramā, you bare your teeth, tawny one,
they glint like spears, in the jaws of (you) who are snapping. Go to sleep!
Wenn weisser Sarameja du, wenn brauner du die Zähne fletschst, Dann leuchten sie den Schwertern gleich in dem Gebiss des schnappenden. – O schlaf in Ruh!
Wenn du weiß-brauner Sarama-Sohn die Zähne fletschest, so blinken sie wie Speere im Gebiß des Schnappenden. Schlafe fein ein!
Когда ты, белый сын Сарамы,
Оскаливаешь зубы, о коричневый,
Как копья, сверкают они
В пасти жаждущего загрызть. Крепко усни!
स्ते॒नं रा॑य सारमेय॒ तस्क॑रं वा पुनःसर । स्तो॒तॄनिन्द्र॑स्य रायसि॒ किम॒स्मान्दु॑च्छुनायसे॒ नि षु स्व॑प ॥
स्ते॒नम् । रा॒य॒ । सा॒र॒मे॒य॒ । तस्क॑रम् । वा॒ । पु॒नः॒ऽस॒र॒ । स्तो॒तॄन् । इन्द्र॑स्य । रा॒य॒सि॒ । किम् । अ॒स्मान् । दु॒च्छु॒न॒ऽय॒से॒ । नि । सु । स्व॒प॒ ॥
हे पुनःसर । गतमेव देशं पुनः सरंतीति पुनःसरः । तादृग्भूत हे सारमेय त्वं स्तेनम् । प्रच्छन्नधनापहारी स्तेनः । तं तस्करम् । प्रत्यक्षधनापहारी तस्करः । तं वा राय गच्छ । इन्द्रस्य स्तोतॄन् अस्मान् किं रायसि गच्छसि । अस्मान् दुच्छुनायसे किं बाधसे । नि षु स्वप अत्यन्तं निद्रां कुरु ॥
“Offspring of Saramā, returning (to the charge), attack the pilferer or the thief; why do you assail theworshippers of Indra? Why do you intimidate us? Go quietly to sleep.”
Sarama's Son, retrace thy way: bark at the robber and the thief.
At Indra's singers barkest thou? Why dust thou seek to terrify us? Go to sleep.
Bark at the thief, o son of Saramā, or at the robber, you who lunge (at them) again and again.
You are barking at the praisers of Indra. Why do you torment us? Go to sleep!
O Sarameja, bell den Dieb, den Räuber an, o lauf zurück! Was bellst du Indra's Sänger an? warum willst du uns Böses thun? – O schlaf in Ruh!
Bell den Dieb an oder den Räuber, du zurücklaufender Sarama-Sohn! Du bellst des Indra Lobsänger an. Was bedrohst du uns? Schlaf fein ein!
На вора лай, о сын Сарамы –
Или на грабителя, о прибегающий назад!
Ты лаешь на певцов Индры.
Что ты нам угрожаешь? Крепко усни!
त्वं सू॑क॒रस्य॑ दर्दृहि॒ तव॑ दर्दर्तु सूक॒रः । स्तो॒तॄनिन्द्र॑स्य रायसि॒ किम॒स्मान्दु॑च्छुनायसे॒ नि षु स्व॑प ॥
त्वम् । सू॒क॒रस्य॑ । द॒र्दृ॒हि॒ । तव॑ । द॒र्द॒र्तु॒ । सू॒क॒रः । स्तो॒तॄन् । इन्द्र॑स्य । रा॒य॒सि॒ । किम् । अ॒स्मान् । दु॒च्छु॒न॒ऽय॒से॒ । नि । सु । स्व॒प॒ ॥
हे सारमेय त्वं सूकरस्य वराहस्य । द्वितीयार्थे षष्ठी । दर्दृहि विदारय । सूकरः अपि तव दर्दर्तु विदारयतु । युवयोर्नित्यवैरित्वात् । अस्मान् मा दशेत्यर्थः । स्तोतॄन इत्यर्धर्चः पूर्वस्यामृचि व्याख्यातः ॥
“Do you rend the hog; let the hog rend you; why do you assail the worshippers of Indra? Why do youintimidate us? Go quietly to sleep.”
Be on thy guard against the boar, and let the boar beware of thee.
At Indra's singers barkest thou? Why dost thou seek to terrify us? Go to sleep.
Keep tearing at the boar; let the boar keep tearing at you.
You are barking at the praisers of Indra. Why do you torment us? Go to sleep!
Den wilden Eber packe an, der Eber stürze sich auf dich; Was bellst du Indra's Sänger an? warum willst du uns Böses thun? – O schlaf in Ruh!
Zerr an dem Eber, oder der Eber soll an dir zerren! Du bellst des Indra Lobsänger an. Was bedrohst du uns? Schlaf fein ein!
Растерзай ты кабана,
(Или) кабан пусть растерзает тебя.
Ты лаешь на певцов Индры.
Что ты нам угрожаешь? Крепко усни!
सस्तु॑ मा॒ता सस्तु॑ पि॒ता सस्तु॒ श्वा सस्तु॑ वि॒श्पति॑: । स॒सन्तु॒ सर्वे॑ ज्ञा॒तय॒: सस्त्व॒यम॒भितो॒ जन॑: ॥
सस्तु॑ । मा॒ता । सस्तु॑ । पि॒ता । सस्तु॑ । श्वा । सस्तु॑ । वि॒श्पतिः॑ । स॒सन्तु॑ । सर्वे॑ । ज्ञा॒तयः॑ । सस्तु॑ । अ॒यम् । अ॒भितः॑ । जनः॑ ॥
हे सारमेय माता त्वदीया जननी सस्तु स्वपतु । पिता च सस्तु। श्वा सारमेयो भवान् सस्तु । विश्पतिः जामाता यद्वा विशां जनानां पालको गृही सस्तु । सर्वे ज्ञातयः बन्धवोऽपि ससन्तु स्वपन्तु । अभितः परितः स्थितः अयम् अपि सर्वः जनः सस्तु स्वपतु ॥
“Let the mother sleep let the father sleep, let the dog sleep, let the son-in-law sleep, let all the kindredsleep, let the people (who are stationed) around sleep.”
Sleep mother, let the father sleep, sleep dog and master of the house.
Let all the kinsmen sleep, sleep all the people who are round about.
Let the mother sleep, let the father sleep; let the dog sleep, let the clanlord sleep.
Let all the relations sleep; let this folk round about sleep.
Die Mutter schlaf, der Vater schlaf, es schlafe Hund und Hausherr auch, Es schlafe alles, was verwandt, es schlafe rings umher das Volk.
Die Mutter soll schlafen, der Vater soll schlafen; der Hund soll schlafen, der Clanherr soll schlafen. Alle Verwandten sollen schlafen, diese Leute allenthalben sollen schlafen!
Пусть мать спит, пусть отец спит,
Пусть пес спит, пусть глава рода спит,
Пусть спять все родные,
Пусть спит вокруг этот род!
य आस्ते॒ यश्च॒ चर॑ति॒ यश्च॒ पश्य॑ति नो॒ जन॑: । तेषां॒ सं ह॑न्मो अ॒क्षाणि॒ यथे॒दं ह॒र्म्यं तथा॑ ॥
यः । आस्ते॑ । यः । च॒ । चर॑ति॒ । यः । च॒ । पश्य॑ति । नः॒ । जनः॑ । तेषा॑म् । सम् । ह॒न्मः॒ । अ॒क्षाणि॑ । यथा॑ । इ॒दम् । ह॒र्म्यम् । तथा॑ ॥
यः जनः आस्ते अस्मिन् प्रदेशे तिष्ठति यश्च चरति गच्छति यश्च जनः नः अस्मान् पश्यति एवंभूतानां तेषां जनानाम् अक्षाणि इन्द्रियाणि सं हन्मः संहनाम । संहतिर्निमीलनम् । निमीलयामेत्यर्थः । इदं प्रत्यक्षेणोपलभ्यमानं हर्म्यं प्रासादादिस्थावरात्मकं वस्तुजातं यथा निश्चलं भवति तथा इमे सर्वे जना निश्चला भवन्त्वित्यर्थः ॥
“The man who sits, or he who walks, or he who sees us, of these we shut up the eyes, so that they maybe as unconscious as the mansion.”
The man who sits, the man who walks, and whosoever looks on us,
Of these we closely shut the eyes, even as we closely shut this house.
Whoever sits still and whoever wanders, and whoever sees
us—such folk—
their eyes do we slam shut—just like this house.
Wer sitzet, und wer sich bewegt, und auch wer stehend uns erblickt, Die Augen derer schliessen wir, so wie wir schliessen dieses Haus.
Wer sitzt und wer geht und welchermann uns sieht, deren Augen schließen wir so wie dieses feste Haus.
Кто сидит и кто бродит,
И (тот) человек, что на нас смотрит, –
(Всем) им мы смежаем очи,
Как (закрываем) этот дом.
स॒हस्र॑शृङ्गो वृष॒भो यः स॑मु॒द्रादु॒दाच॑रत् । तेना॑ सह॒स्ये॑ना व॒यं नि जना॑न्त्स्वापयामसि ॥
स॒हस्र॑ऽशृङ्गः । वृ॒ष॒भः । यः । स॒मु॒द्रात् । उ॒त्ऽआच॑रत् । तेन॑ । स॒ह॒स्ये॑न । व॒यम् । नि । जना॑न् । स्वा॒प॒या॒म॒सि॒ ॥
सहस्रशृङ्गः सहस्रकिरणः वृषभः कामानां वर्षिता यः सूर्यः समुद्रात् अम्बुधेः सकाशात् उदाचरत् उदागच्छति सहस्येन अभिभवित्रा तेन सूर्येण वयं स्तोतारः जनान् सर्वान् नि ष्वापयामसि नितरां स्वापयामः ॥
“We put men to sleep through the irresisible might or the bull with a thousand horns, who rises out of theocean.”
The Bull who hath a thousand horns, who rises up from out the sea,-
By him the Strong and Mighty One we lull and make the people sleep.
The thousand-horned bull who rises up from the sea [=moon],
with this mighty one we make the folks sleep.
Der Stier, der tausend Strahlen wirft, der aus dem Meere stieg empor, durch diesen allgewaltigen versenken wir das Volk in Schlaf.
Der tausendhörnige Stier, der aus dem Meere aufging, mit diesem Mächtigen schläfern wir die Leute ein.
Тысячерогий бык,
Который поднялся из моря, –
С помощью этого могущественного
Мы усыпляем людей.
प्रो॒ष्ठे॒श॒या व॑ह्येश॒या नारी॒र्यास्त॑ल्प॒शीव॑रीः । स्त्रियो॒ याः पुण्य॑गन्धा॒स्ताः सर्वा॑: स्वापयामसि ॥
प्रो॒ष्ठे॒ऽश॒याः । व॒ह्ये॒ऽश॒याः । नारीः॑ । याः । त॒ल्प॒ऽशीव॑रीः । स्रियः॑ । याः । पुण्य॑ऽगन्धाः । ताः । सर्वाः॑ । स्वा॒प॒या॒म॒सि॒ ॥
याः यादृश्यः नारीः नार्यः स्त्रियः प्रोष्ठेशयाः प्राङ्कणे' शयानाः । याः वह्येशयाः । वह्यं वाहनम् । तस्मिन् शयानाः । याः तल्पशीवरी: तल्पशयाः। याः स्त्रियः पुण्यगन्धाः मङ्गल्यगन्धाः। ताः तादृशीः सर्वाः स्त्रीः स्वापयामसि वयं निद्रां कारयामः ॥ ॥ २२ ॥ ॥ ३ ॥
“We put to sleep all those women are lying in the courtyard in litter on the bed, the wom who aredecorated with holiday perfumes.”
The women sleeping in the court, lying without, or stretched on beds,
The matrons with their odorous sweetsthese, one and all, we lull to sleep.
The ladies lying on benches, those lying on litters, those lying on beds, the women of pleasant scent—all these do we make sleep.
Die Frauen, die auf Bänken ruhn, auf Sänften und auf weichem Bett, Die Jungfrau'n reinen Duftes voll, die alle senken wir in Schlaf.
Die Frauen, die auf der Bank, die auf dem Sessel, die im Bette liegen, die wohlduftenden Weiber, die schläfern wir alle ein.
Жены, что лежат на скамье, лежат в паланкине,
(Те,) что лежат в постели,
Благоуханные женщины –
Всех их мы усыпляем.
