छन्दत्रिष्टुप्
उद्वां॒ चक्षु॑र्वरुण सु॒प्रती॑कं दे॒वयो॑रेति॒ सूर्य॑स्तत॒न्वान् । अ॒भि यो विश्वा॒ भुव॑नानि॒ चष्टे॒ स म॒न्युं मर्त्ये॒ष्वा चि॑केत ॥
उत् । वा॒म् । चक्षुः॑ । व॒रु॒णा॒ । सु॒ऽप्रती॑कम् । दे॒वयोः॑ । ए॒ति॒ । सूर्यः॑ । त॒त॒न्वान् । अ॒भि । यः । विश्वा॑ । भुव॑नानि । च॒ष्टे॒ । सः । म॒न्युम् । मर्त्ये॑षु । आ । चि॒के॒त॒ ॥
हे वरुणा मित्रावरुणौ देवयोः द्योतमानयोः वां युवयोः चक्षुः प्रकाशकं तेजः सुप्रतीकं शोभनरूपमेवंरूपः सूर्यः ततन्वान् तेजो विस्तारयन् उत् एति उद्गच्छति । अथोदितः यः देवः विश्वा सर्वाणि भुवनानि भूतजातानि अभि चष्टे अभिपश्यति सः देवः मर्त्येषु प्रवृत्तं मन्युं स्तोत्रं कर्म वा आ चिकेत आजानाति ॥
“Spreading arond the beautiful light, Mitra and Varuṇa, of you two divinities, Sūrya rises; he whobeholds all existing beings apprehends the acts of mortals.”
O VARUNA and Mitra, Surya spreading the beauteous light of you Twain Gods ariseth.
He who beholdetb all existing creatures observetb well the zeal that is in mortals.
The beauteous eye of Varuna and Mitra, The Sun, now rises up, his light extending. Who with his gaze looks down upon all creatures: He ever notes the burning zeal of mortals.
Upward arises the eye of lovely appearance that belongs to you two gods, o Varuṇa—the Sun, who has extended himself.
He who watches over all living beings marks the battle fury among
mortals.
Auf geht die Sonne, Varuna und Mitra, eur wunderschönes Auge weithin strahlend; Sie schauet musternd hin auf alle Wesen und nimmt auch wahr der Sterblichen Gedanken.
Surya, euer beider Götter Auge, geht, schön anzuschauen, Licht verbreitend, auf o Varuna und Mitra, der alle Wesen überschaut; er erkennt auch die Absicht in den Sterblichen.

Прекрасный на вид Сурья восходит, протягивая (лучи).

प्र । वा॒म् । सः । मि॒त्रा॒व॒रु॒णौ॒ । ऋ॒तऽवा॑ । विप्रः॑ । मन्मा॑नि । दी॒र्घ॒ऽश्रुत् । इ॒य॒र्ति॒ । यस्य॑ । ब्रह्मा॑णि । सु॒क्र॒तू॒ इति॑ सुऽक्रतू । अवा॑थः । आ । यत् । क्रत्वा॑ । न । श॒रदः॑ । पृ॒णैथे॑ ॥
हे मित्रावरुणौ वां युवयोः मन्मानि मननीयानि स्तोत्राणि सः प्रसिद्धः विप्रः मेधावी ऋतावा यज्ञवान् दीर्घश्रुत् चिरकालं श्रोता एवमुक्तलक्षणो वसिष्ठः इयर्ति प्रेरयति । यस्य ऋषेः ब्रह्माणि परिवृढानि स्तोत्राणि हे सुक्रतू शोभनकर्माणौ अवाथः रक्षथः । यत् कर्म शरदः बहून् संवत्सरान् आ पृणैथे आपूरयेथे स उदियर्ति ॥
“The sage, the solemnizer of sacrifice, the ancient hearer (of holy prayer), earnestly repeats, Mitra andVaruṇa, your praises; he whose prayers, doers of good deeds, you favour, whose acts (of worship) yourecompense not for years.”
The holy sage, renowned afar, directeth his hymns to you, O Varuna and Mitra,-
He whose devotions, sapient Gods, ye favour so that ye fill, as 'twere, with power his autumns.
This pious priest, heard far away, here utters His hymn for you, O Varuṇa and Mitra: Do ye, O sages, treat his prayers with favour. And may his autumns be replete with wisdom.
Truth-possessing, the far-famed inspired poet raises his thoughts forth to you, o Mitra and Varuṇa—
he whose formulations you will help, o you of strong will, when you two will bring his autumns to fullness, as if by his will.
Euch, Mitra, Varuna, stimmt an der Sänger, der fromme, weithin schallend seine Lieder; Befördert sein Gebet, o Weisheitsvolle, dass ihr mit Weisheit seine Jahre füllet.
Auf euch, Mitra und Varuna, hebt der wahrhafte redekundige Sänger weithin hörbar seine Dichtung an, dessen erbauliche Worte ihr Wohlwollende günstig aufnehmen möget, auf daß ihr seine Jahre vollzählig machet, wie er es im Sinn hat.

Исполняет для вас молитвы (так, что) далеко слышно,
Чтобы словно (своей) силой духа вы наполнили (его) осени –
(Тот,) чьи священные слова вы поддерживаете, о прекрасные силой духа.
प्रोरोर्मि॑त्रावरुणा पृथि॒व्याः प्र दि॒व ऋ॒ष्वाद्बृ॑ह॒तः सु॑दानू । स्पशो॑ दधाथे॒ ओष॑धीषु वि॒क्ष्वृध॑ग्य॒तो अनि॑मिषं॒ रक्ष॑माणा ॥
प्र । उ॒रोः । मि॒त्रा॒व॒रु॒णा॒ । पृ॒थि॒व्याः । प्र । दि॒वः । ऋ॒ष्वात् । बृ॒ह॒तः । सु॒दा॒नू॒ इति॑ सुऽदानू । स्पशः॑ । द॒धा॒थे॒ इति॑ । ओष॑धीषु । वि॒क्षु । ऋध॑क् । य॒तः । अनि॑ऽमिषम् । रक्ष॑माणा ॥
हे मित्रावरुणा मित्रावरुणौ युवाम् उरोः विस्तीर्णायाः पृथिव्याः अपि प्र प्ररिरिचाथे । ‘ अस्येदेव प्र रिरिचे' (ऋ. सं. १. ६१. ९) इत्यादिषु प्रशब्दस्य रिरिच इत्यनेन सह संबन्धदर्शनादत्राप्युचितक्रियाध्याहारेण रिरिच इति योज्यम् । तथा ऋष्वात् गुणैर्महतः बृहतः स्वरूपतोऽतिमहतः दिवः द्युलोकादपि प्र रिरिचाथे हे सुदानू शोभनदानौ। किंच ओषधीषु विक्षु प्रजासु निमित्तभूतासु प्रजासु चेति वा स्पशः रूपं दधाथे धारयेथे । किं कुर्वन्तौ । ऋधग्यतः ऋधक्सत्येन यतो विवेकात् सत्येन गच्छतो जनान् अनिमिषम् अव्यवधानेन सर्वदा रक्षमाणा पालयन्तौ ॥
“You are vaster, Mitra and Varuṇa, than the ample earth, vaster, bounteous donors, than the gloriousand expansive heaven; you maintain beauty in plural nts and in people, diligent observers of truth, and vigilantlyprotecting (us).”
From the wide earth, O Varuna and Mitra from the great lofty heaven, ye, Bounteous Givers, -
Have in the fields and houses set your warder-, who visit every spot and watch unceasing.
From wide-spread earth, O Varuṇa and Mitra, Ye bounteous gods, and from the lofty heaven. Ye have disposed your wandering spies in dwellings And plants, ye who with watchful eye protect us.
(You have reached) past the wide (midspace), past the earth, o Mitra and Varuṇa, past the high heaven aloft, o you who bring good gifts.
You have placed your spies among the plants and among the clans,
guarding unwinkingly against him who goes his own way.
Von weiter Erd' und hocherhabnem Himmel schickt ihr, o Mitra-Varuna, ihr reichen, In Haus und Wald die Späher, die getrennt gehn, die nimmer schlummernd alles ihr behütet.
Ihr reichet weiter als der weite Raum, als die Erde, weiter als der ragende hohe Himmel, Mitra und Varuna, ihr Gabenschöne. Eure Späher habet ihr in den Pflanzen und Ansiedelungen aufgestellt und ihr passet ohne die Augen zu schließen auf die, welche abseits wandeln.
Вы вы(деляетесь), о Митра-Варуна, над широким (пространством) над землей,
Над огромным высоким небом, о прекрасно дарящие.
Вы держите соглядатаев среди растений, среди поселений,
(Их,) следующих особо, (вы,) охраняющие, не моргая.
शंसा॑ मि॒त्रस्य॒ वरु॑णस्य॒ धाम॒ शुष्मो॒ रोद॑सी बद्बधे महि॒त्वा । अय॒न्मासा॒ अय॑ज्वनाम॒वीरा॒: प्र य॒ज्ञम॑न्मा वृ॒जनं॑ तिराते ॥
शंसा॑ । मि॒त्रस्य॑ । वरु॑णस्य । धाम॑ । शुष्मः॑ । रोद॑सी॒ इति॑ । ब॒द्ब॒धे॒ । म॒हि॒ऽत्वा । अय॑न् । मासाः॑ । अय॑ज्वनाम् । अ॒वीराः॑ । प्र । य॒ज्ञऽम॑न्मा । वृ॒जन॑म् । ति॒रा॒ते॒ ॥
हे ऋषे मित्रस्य वरुणस्य च धाम तेजःस्थानं शंस स्तुहि। ययोर्दैवयोः शुष्मः बलं रोदसी द्यावापृथिव्यौ सह वर्तमाने महित्वा स्वमहत्त्वेन बद्बधे बध्नाति पृथक् स्थापयति इयं पृथिवीयं द्यौरिति पृथक्करोति । ‘द्यावापृथिवी सहास्ताम् ' (तै. ब्रा. १. १. ३. २) इति श्रुतेः । अयज्वनाम् अननुष्ठातॄणां मासाः कालावयवाः अवीराः अपुत्रा एव अयन् यन्तु गच्छन्तु । तद्विपरीतः यज्ञमन्मा यज्ञार्थं मतिमान् यज्वा वृजनं बलं प्र तिराते प्रवर्धयतु । प्रपूर्वस्तिरतिर्वर्धनार्थः ॥
“Praise the splendour of Mitra and Varuṇa, whose strength, by its might, keeps heaven and earthasunder; may the days of those who differ not worship pass without male descendants; amy he who delights insacrifice increase in prosperity.”
I praise the strength of Varuna and Mitra that strength, by mightiness, keeps both worlds asunder.
Heroless pass the months of the ungodly he who loves sacrifice makes his home enduring.
Praise thou the law of Varuṇa and Mitra: Their force the two worlds keeps with might asunder. The months of impious men shall pass by sonless; May those on worship bent increase their homestead.
I shall praise the institutes of Mitra and Varuṇa: in its greatness their unbridled power ever presses upon the two world-halves.
The months of those not sacrificing will pass without bringing heroes, but he whose thoughts belong to the sacrifice will extend his
settlement.
Des Varuna und Mitra Herrschaft preis' ich, ihr hoher Muth bestürmet Erd' und Himmel; An Helden arm verrinnt des Frevlers Leben, der fromme Beter mehrt die Schar der Seinen.
Ich will das Werk von Mitra und Varuna preisen; ihr Eifer hält Himmel und Erde mächtig in Schranken. Die Monde sollen den Opferlosen ohne Söhne vergehen; der Opferwillige soll seinen Anhang mehren.
Я хочу провозгласить установление Митры (и) Варуны:
(Их) пыл раздвинул (своей) мощью две половины вселенной.
Пусть пройдут месяцы тех, кто не приносит жертв, без сыновей!
Пусть усилит (свое) окружение (тот,) чья мысль о жертвах!
अमू॑रा॒ विश्वा॑ वृषणावि॒मा वां॒ न यासु॑ चि॒त्रं ददृ॑शे॒ न य॒क्षम् । द्रुह॑: सचन्ते॒ अनृ॑ता॒ जना॑नां॒ न वां॑ नि॒ण्यान्य॒चिते॑ अभूवन् ॥
अमू॑रा । विश्वा॑ । वृ॒ष॒णौ॒ । इ॒माः । वा॒म् । न । यासु॑ । चि॒त्रम् । ददृ॑शे । न । य॒क्षम् । दुहः॑ । स॒च॒न्ते॒ । अनृ॑ता । जना॑नाम् । न । वा॒म् । नि॒ण्यानि॑ । अ॒चिते॑ । अ॒भू॒व॒न् ॥
हे अमूरा अमूढौ हे विश्वा व्याप्तौ हे वृषणौ वर्षितारौ वां युवाभ्याम् इमाः इमानि स्तुतिवचांसि क्रियन्ते । यासु स्तुतिषु चित्रम् आश्चर्यं न ददृशे न दृश्यते न यक्षं न पूजा दृश्यते । युवाभ्यां महिम्नोऽपि महत्त्वात् प्रयत्नेन क्रियमाणमपि स्तोत्रं न चमत्करोतीत्यर्थः । जनानाम् अनृता अस्तुत्यविषयाणि स्तोत्राणि द्रुहः द्रोग्धारः सचन्ते सेवन्ते । न महान्तः । वां युवाभ्यां क्रियमाणानि निण्यानि अन्तर्हितानि रहस्यान्यपि स्तोत्राणि अचिते अज्ञानाय न अभूवन् न भवन्ति ॥
“Unperplexed, all-pervading showerers (of benefits), these (praises) are for you, in which nothingsurprising, no adoration (worthy of you) is beheld; the insincere commendations of men serve as offences;eulogies of you, althogh offered in secret, are not unappreciated.”
Steers, all infallible are these your people in whom no wondrous thing is seen, no worship.
Guile follows close the men who are untruthful: no secrets may be hidden from your knowledge.
Ye both are wise, O mighty ones, for you two These lauds are sung without deceit or magic. Avenging spies pursue men's falsehoods closely: There are no secrets that ye cannot fathom.
O you two bulls, all these of yours who are never fooled, among whom has been seen neither sign nor wonder—
(these, your) deceptions!—follow the untruths of men. There have not been secrets that cannot be perceived by you two.
Es strafen alle eure Rachegeister, an denen nicht Gestalt noch Schein gesehn wird, Die Schuld der Menschen ungetäuscht, o Helden; nicht ist dem Thoren kund eur heimlich Wirken.
Ihr Bullen, alle beide unfehlbar, diese Anschläge von euch, bei denen man weder Zeichen noch Wunder sieht, folgen den Unredlichkeiten der Menschen. Nicht sind euch beiden Geheimnisse unbekannt geblieben.
О два быка безошибочных, все эти ваши
Злые силы, в которых не видно ни (излишней) яркости, ни чуда,
Следуют за беззакониями людей.
Тайны не остались для вас непонятными.

सम् । ऊँ॒ इति॑ । वा॒म् । य॒ज्ञम् । म॒ह॒य॒म् । नमः॑ऽभिः । हु॒वे । वा॒म् । मि॒त्रा॒व॒रु॒णा॒ । स॒ऽबाधः॑ । प्र । वा॒म् । मन्मा॑नि । ऋ॒चसे॑ । नवा॑नि । कृ॒तानि॑ । ब्रह्म॑ । जु॒जु॒ष॒न् । इ॒मानि॑ ॥
हे मित्रावरुणौ वां युवयोः यज्ञं नमोभिः नमस्कारैः स्तुतिभिः समु महयं संपूजयाम्यहम् । तदर्थं हे मित्रावरुणा मित्रावरुणौ वां सबाधः बाधायुक्तोऽहं हुवे आह्वयामि बाधापरिहाराय । वां युवाम् ऋचसे सेवितुं नवानि नूतनानि स्तुत्यानि वा मन्मानि स्तोत्राणि प्र भवन्वित्यध्याहारः। कृतानि मया समूहीकृतानि इमानि इदानीं क्रियमाणानि ब्रह्म परिवृढानि स्तोत्राणि युवां जुजुषन् प्रीणयन्तु ॥
“I offer sacrifice to you two with praises, I invoke you, Mitra and Varuṇa, when in trouble; may thepresent hymns be capable of gratifying you; may these (my) prayers be acceptable to you both.”
I will exalt your sacrifice with homage: as priest, I, Mitra-Varuna, invoke you.
May these new hymns and prayers that I have fashioned delight you to the profit of the singer.
With reverence I will consecrate your offering; With zeal I call you, Varuṇa and Mitra. These novel thoughts to praise you are intended: May these the prayers that I have offered please you.
I make the sacrifice great for you two with my acts of reverence; eagerly I call upon you two, Mitra and Varuṇa;
my new thoughts (go) forth to you to chant praise. They will enjoy these formulations created (by me)!
Mit Ehrfurcht will ich euer Opfer feiern, euch ruf' ich, Mitra-Varuna, mit Inbrunst, Euch sollen preisen diese neuen Lieder, erwünscht sei euch dies Flehn, das ich euch weihte.
Ich erhöhe euer Opfer durch Verbeugung; ich rufe euch, Mitra und Varuna, eindringlich an. Um euch zu preisen trage ich neue Dichtungen vor; diese Erbauungen, die euch bereitet sind, mögen gefallen
Я хочу возвеличить вашу жертву поклонениями.
Я настойчиво зову вас, о Митра-Варуна.
Я пред(лагаю) новые молитвы для исполнения вам.

इयन्देतेतिसप्तमीगता ॥ ७ ॥उत्सूर्यइति षळृचं सप्तमं सूक्तं अत्रानुक्रमणिका-उत्सूर्यः षळाद्यास्तिस्रः सौर्यइति वसिष्ठऋषिः त्रिष्टुप् छन्दः आद्यास्तिस्रः सूर्यदेवत्याः शिष्टामित्रावरुणदेवत्याः सूक्तविनियोगोलैङ्गिकः ।
“To you, divine Mitra and Varuṇa, to you this adoration at sacrifices is addressed; remove from us alldifficulties, and ever cherish us with blessings.”
This priestly task, Gods! Varuna and Mitra! hath been performed for you at sacrifices.
Convey us safely over every peril. Preserve us evermore, ye Gods, with blessings.
For you, O gods, this service has been rendered At sacrifices, Varuṇa and Mitra, Across all dangers do ye safely take us. Ye gods protect us evermore with blessings.
This installation of the god [=Agni] to the fore has been made for you two, Mitra and Varuṇa.
Take us across all difficulties. – Do you protect us always with your
blessings.
Dies Priesterwerk ist euch vollbracht, o Götter, bei diesen Opfern, Varuna und Mitra, Durch alle Drangsal führet uns hinüber; ihr Götter, schützt uns stets mit eurem Segen.
Für euch, Götter Mitra und Varuna, ward dieses Purohitaamt bei den Opfern ausgeübt. Helfet uns über alle Fährlichkeiten hinweg!-Behütet ihr uns immerdar mit eurem Segen!
Для вас, о два бога Митра, Варуна,
Совершалась эта служба пурохиты на жертвоприношениях.
Переправьте нас через все трудности!
Защищайте вы нас всегда (своими) милостями!
