ऋषिनाभाकः काण्वः अर्चनाना वा
देवतावरुणः
मन्त्र6
छन्दत्रिष्टुप्
अ᳓स्तभ्नाद् द्या᳓म् अ᳓सुरो विश्व᳓वेदा
अ᳓मिमीत वरिमा᳓णम् पृथिव्याः᳓
आ᳓सीदद् वि᳓श्वा भु᳓वनानि सम्रा᳓ड्
वि᳓श्वे᳓त् ता᳓नि व᳓रुणस्य व्रता᳓नि
विश्ववेदाः विश्वधनः असुरः बलवान् वरुणः द्याम् अस्तभ्नात् । तथा पृथिव्याः च वरिमाणं परिमाणम् अमिमीत चक्रे । एवं निर्मितानि विश्वा सर्वाणि भुवनानि सम्राट् भूत्वा आसीदत् च अध्यतिष्ठच्च । वरुणस्य तानि एतानि व्रतानि कर्माणि विश्वेत् विश्वान्येव । अतो वर्णयितुमशक्यानीत्यर्थः ॥
LORD of all wealth, the Asura propped the heavens, and measured out the broad earth's wide expanses.
He, King supreme, approached all living creatures. All these are Varuna's holy operations.
He propped up heaven—the lord who possesses all possessions—he measured out the expanse of the earth;
the sovereign king made all the living worlds his seat. All these are the commandments of Varuṇa.
Der weise Gott befestigte den Himmel und mass rings aus der weiten Erde Umfang; In alle Wesen senkte sich der Allherr; das alles ist durch Varuna vollendet.
Der allwissende Asura hat den Himmel gestützt und die Ausdehnung der Erde abgemessen. Alle Welten nahm der Oberkönig in Besitz. All dies sind Varuna´s Obliegenheiten.
Он укрепил небо, (этот) всеведущий Асура,
Он измерил протяженность земли.
Он завладел всеми мирами как вседержитель.
Всё ведь это заветы Варуны.
एव᳓+आ᳓ वन्दस्व व᳓रुणम् बृह᳓न्तम् ।
नमस्य᳓+ आ᳓ धी᳓रम् अमृ᳓तस्य गोपा᳓म् ।
स᳓ नश् श᳓र्म त्रि-व᳓रूथव्ँ+++(=वर्म)+++ वि᳓यँसत्+++(=वियमयतु)+++ ॥37॥
यूय᳓म् पात स्वस्ति᳓भिस् स᳓दा नः ।
हे स्तोतः बृहन्तं महान्तं वरुणम् एव एवं वन्दस्व स्तुहि । अमृतस्य गोपां गोपायितारं धीरं प्राज्ञं वरुणं नमस्य नमस्कुरु च । सः वरुणः नः अस्मभ्यं त्रिवरूथं त्रिस्थानं शर्म गृहं वि यंसत् प्रयच्छतु । उपस्थे उपस्थाने वर्तमानान् नः अस्मान् द्यावापृथिवी द्यावापृथिव्यौ पातं रक्षतम् ॥
So humbly worship Varuna the Mighty revere the wise Guard of World Immortal.
May he vouchsafe us triply-barred protection. O Earth and Heaven, within your lap preserve us.
Extol lofty Varuṇa thus: offer reverence to the insightful herdsman of the immortal.
He will extend to us shelter providing threefold defense. Protect us in your lap, o Heaven and Earth.
So preise hoch nun Varuna, den grossen, bet' an den weisen Hort des Götterreiches, Er reiche Schutz, der dreifach uns beschirmet; o Erd' und Himmel hegt in eurem Schooss uns.
So lobpreiset denn den hohen Varuna, mache dem weisen Hüter der Unsterblichkeit eine Verbeugung! Er breite über uns seinen dreifach schützenden Schirm aus. Behütet uns, Himmel und Erde, in eurem Schoße!
Прославляй так Варуну могучего,
Поклоняйся мудрому пастырю бессмертия!
Пусть дарует он нам защиту с тройным укрытием!
Сохраните нас, о Небо и Земля, в (своем) лоне!
इमां᳓ धि᳓यं शि᳓क्षमाणस्य देव
क्र᳓तुं द᳓क्षं वरुण सं᳓ शिशाधि
य᳓या᳓ति वि᳓श्वा दुरिता᳓ त᳓रेम
सुत᳓र्माणम् अ᳓धि ना᳓वं रुहेम
हे देव द्योतमान वरुण इमां धियम् इदं कर्म शिक्षमाणस्य अनुतिष्ठतो मम क्रतुं प्रज्ञानं दक्षं बलं च सं शिशाधि तीक्ष्णीकुरु । यया नावा यज्ञरूपया विश्वा सर्वाणि दुरिता दुरितानि अति तरेम तां सुतर्माणं सुष्ठु तारयित्रीं यज्ञरूपां नावम् अधि रुहेम वयमारुहेम । दुःखसागरतरणे हेतुत्वाद्यज्ञो नौरित्यत्र व्यपदिश्यते ॥
Sharpen this song of him who strives his utmost, sharpen, God Varuna, his strength and insight;
May we ascend the ship that bears us safely, whereby we may pass over all misfortune.
Sharpen the will and skill of the man who puts his best into this
insightful thought, o god Varuṇa.
Might we board a boat that provides a good crossing, by which we might cross beyond all difficulties.
O Gott, verschärfe dies Gebet des Frommen und seine Kraft, o Varuna, und Einsicht, Durch das wir alles Ungemach durchschiffen, das Schiff besteigend, das uns sicher durchfährt.
Schärfe, Gott Varuna, Überlegung und Willenskraft, wenn ich es mit dieser Dichtung versuche. Wir möchten das rettende Schiff besteigen, mit dem wir über alle Fährlichkeiten hinwegkommen können.
(У меня,) старающегося создать это произведение,
Силу духа (и) силу действия заостри, о Варуна!
Мы хотим взойти на спасительную ладью,
На которой мы переправились бы через все беды!
आ᳓ वां ग्रा᳓वाणो अश्विना
धीभि᳓र् वि᳓प्रा अचुच्यवुः
ना᳓सत्या सो᳓मपीतये
न᳓भन्ताम् अन्यके᳓ समे
हे नासत्या सत्यौ सत्यप्रणेतारौ वा । तथा च यास्कः– सत्यावेव नासत्यावित्यौर्णवाभः सत्यस्य प्रणेतारौ ' (निरु. ६. १३ ) इति । अश्विना अश्विनौ वां युवां सोमपीतये सोमस्य पानाय विप्राः प्राज्ञा ऋत्विजः ग्रावाणः सोमाभिषव्पाषाणाश्च धीभिः कर्मभिः स्वस्वव्यापारैः अचुच्यतुः अभिगच्छन्ति । सिद्धमन्यत् ॥
Asvins, with songs the singer stones have made you hasten hitherward,
Nasatyas, to the Soma-draught. Let all the others die away.
The pressing stones, inspired poets, have roused you two, o Aśvins, with their insightful thoughts,
for you to drink the soma, o Nāsatyas.
– Let all the other squirts burst!
Euch Ritter zog des Sängers Lied, die Somasteine euch herbei, O treue, zu dem Somatrunk. Zerstieben soll der Feinde Schwarm.
Euch, Asvin, haben die Preßsteine herangezogen und die Redekundigen mit ihren frommen Gedanken, ihr Nasatya´s zum Somatrunk. All die anderen Schwächlinge sollen entzweigehen!
Давильные камни вас притянули, о Ашвины,
(И) вдохновенные (поэты своими) молитвами
На питье сомы, о Насатьи.
Пусть лопнут все ничтожные другие!
य᳓था वाम् अ᳓त्रिर् अश्विना
गीर्भि᳓र् वि᳓प्रो अ᳓जोहवीत्
ना᳓सत्या सो᳓मपीतये
न᳓भन्ताम् अन्यके᳓ समे
हे नासत्यावश्विनौ वां युवां विप्रः प्राज्ञः अत्रिः यथा गीर्भिः स्तुतिभिः सोमपीतये अजोहवीत् तथाहमपि जोहवीमि ॥
As the sage Atri with his hymns, O Asvins, called you eagerly,
Nasatyas, to the Soma-draught. Let all the others die away.
Just as the inspired Atri kept calling to you two, Aśvins, with his hymns, for you to drink the soma, o Nāsatyas.
– Let all the other squirts burst!
Wie euch der Sänger Atri rief durch seine Lieder, Ritter euch, O treue, zu dem Somatrunk. Zerstieben soll der Feinde Schwarm.
Wie euch, Asvin, der redekundige Atri mit Lobreden anrief, ihr Nasatya´s zum Somatrunk. All die anderen Schwächlinge sollen entzweigehen!

Sayana bhashya empty
So have I called you to our aid, even as the wise have called of old,
Nasatyas, to the Soma-draught. Let all the others die away.
In just this way have I called to you two for help, just as the wise have called,
for you to drink the soma, o Nāsatyas.
– Let all the other squirts burst!
As Oldenberg remarks (1888: 216), on the basis of agreements in lexicon, phrase ology, and style it is likely that VIII.43–48 form a group, though they are not all attributed to the same poet.
So habe ich um Gunst gefleht, wie sonst euch rief der Weisen Schar, O treue, zu dem Somatrunk. Zerstieben soll der Feinde Schwarm.
So habe ich euch zum Beistand angerufen, wie euch ehedem die Weisen anriefen, ihr Nasatya´s zum Somatrunk. All die anderen Schwächlinge sollen entzweigehen!
