ऋषिप्रगाथः काण्वः
देवताइन्द्रः

छन्दपङ्क्तिः
प्र᳓ ऊ अस्मा उ᳓पस्तुतिम्
भ᳓रता य᳓ज् जु᳓जोषति
उक्थइ᳓र् इ᳓न्द्रस्य मा᳓हिनं
व᳓यो वर्धन्ति सोमि᳓नो
भद्रा᳓ इ᳓न्द्रस्य रात᳓यः
अस्मै इन्द्राय उपस्तुतिम् उपेत्य क्रियमाणां स्तुतिं प्रो भरत प्रकर्षेण संपादयत हे ऋत्विजः । यत् यदि अयमिन्द्रः जुजोषति सेवते तर्हि भरतेति । सोमिनः सोमप्रियस्य इन्द्रस्य स्वभूतं माहिनं महत् वयः अन्नं सोमलक्षणम् उक्थैः शस्त्रैः वर्धन्ति वर्धयन्ति । भद्राः स्तुत्यानि खलु इन्द्रस्य रातयः दानानि ॥।
OFFER ye up as praise to him that wherein Indra takes delight.
The Soma-bringers magnify Indra's great energy with hymns. Good are the gifts that Indra gives.
Present a praise invocation to him so that he will find pleasure.
By solemn recitations the providers of soma increase the great vitality of Indra.
– Auspicious are the gifts of Indra.
Auf, bringet ihm den Lobgesang, an dem er sich erfreue, dar; Die Somabringer kräftigen durch Sprüche Indra's hohe Macht; des Indra Gaben bringen Heil.
Traget ihm das Preislied vor, woran er Gefallen haben soll! Mit Lobliedern stärken die Somabereiter des Indra gewaltige Kraft. - Glückbringend sind Indra´s Gaben.
Вознесите же ему хвалу,
Которой он будет наслаждаться!
Приготовители сомы гимнами укрепляют
Великую телесную силу Индры.

अयुजो᳓ अ᳓समो नृ᳓भिर्
ए᳓कः कृष्टी᳓र् अया᳓सियः
पूर्वी᳓र् अ᳓ति प्र᳓ वावृधे
वि᳓श्वा जाता᳓नि ओ᳓जसा
भद्रा᳓ इ᳓न्द्रस्य रात᳓यः
अयुजः असहायः असमः असदृशोऽन्यैः नृभिः देवैः एकः मुख्यः अयास्यः उपक्षपयितुमशक्यः पूर्वीः कृष्टीः पूर्वतन्यः प्रजाः अति प्र ववृधे अतिप्रवर्धते । किंच विश्वा सर्वाणि जातानि इदानीमुत्पन्नानि ओजसा बलेनाति प्र वावृधे । भद्राः हि इन्द्रस्य रातयः । अथवा । अयमृषिरयुजोऽसहायोऽन्यैरसदृश एक एव सन् पूर्वीः प्रजा जातानि सर्वाण्यप्यतिक्रम्य वर्धते । शिष्टं समानम् ॥
Sole among chiefs, companionless, impetuous, and peerless, he
Hath waxen great o'er many folk, yea., over all things born, in might.
Without yokemate, without equal among superior men,
irrepressible—he alone
has grown strong over the many peoples, over all created things, with his might.
– Auspicious are the gifts of Indra.
Er, ohne Gleichen, unerreicht von Männern, überragt allein Die vielen Völker an Gewalt und alle Wesen, ewig wach; des Indra Gaben bringen Heil.
Ohne Genossen, den anderen Männern nicht vergleichbar, ist der Unverzagte allein über viele Völker, über alle Kreaturen an Stärke hinausgewachsen. - Glückbringend sind Indra´s Gaben.
Без союзников, не сравнимый с мужами,
Неистовый, (он) один
Далеко превзошел силой
Многие народы, все существа.

अ᳓हितेन चिद् अ᳓र्वता
जीर᳓दानुः सिषासति
प्रवा᳓च्यम् इन्द्र त᳓त् त᳓व
वीरि᳓याणि करिष्यतो᳓
भद्रा᳓ इ᳓न्द्रस्य रात᳓यः
अयं जीरदानुः क्षिप्रप्रदान इन्द्रः अहितेन अयोजितेनाप्रेरितेन’ चित् अर्वता अरणवताश्वेन सिषासति संभक्तुमिच्छति । तस्माद्धे इन्द्र वीर्याणि सामर्थ्यानि करिष्यतः तव महत्त्वं प्रवाच्यम् । स्तुत्यमित्यर्थः ॥
Lord of swift bounty, he will win e'en with a steed of worthless sort.
This, Indra, must be told of thee who wilt perform heroic deeds.
He of lively gifts is on the point of winning, even with a steed that’s not spurred on.
That of yours should be proclaimed, Indra, when you are going to
perform heroic deeds.
– Auspicious are the gifts of Indra.
Auf schlechtem Renner auch gewinnt den Preis der reichlich strömende, Zu rühmen ist, o Indra, dies, wenn deine Thaten du vollbringst, des Indra Gaben bringen Heil.
Auch mit untauglichem Rennpferde sucht der Raschgebende den Preis zu gewinnen. Zu rühmen ist das von dir, Indra, wenn du Heldentaten vollbringen willst. - Glückbringend sind Indra´s Gaben.
Даже на непригодном скакуне
Быстродающий стремится захватить (награду).
Достойно хвалы, о Индра, то,
Что ты стремишься совершать подвиги.

आ᳓ याहि कृण᳓वाम त
इ᳓न्द्र ब्र᳓ह्माणि व᳓र्धना
ये᳓भिः शविष्ठ चाक᳓नो
भद्र᳓म् इह᳓ श्रवस्यते᳓
भद्रा᳓ इ᳓न्द्रस्य रात᳓यः
हे इन्द्र आ याहि आगच्छ । ते कृणवाम । किम् । ब्रह्माणि परिवृढानि स्तुतिलक्षणानि कर्माणि । कीदृशानि । वर्धना उत्साहवर्धकानि । येभिः यैः कर्मभिः हे शविष्ठ अतिशयेन बलवन्निन्द्र चाकनः कामयसे । किम् । भद्रं कर्तुम् । कस्मै । श्रवस्यते अन्नमिच्छते स्तोत्रे ॥
Come to us.hither: let us pay devotions that enhance thy might,
For which, Most Potent! thou wouldst fain bless the man here who strives for fame.
Drive here! We shall make strengthening sacred formulations for
you, Indra,
in which you will delight, you strongest one. There is something
auspicious here for one who seeks fame.
– Auspicious are the gifts of Indra.
Komm, Indra, her, wir wollen dir Gebete bringen, stärkende, Die du, o stärkster, gerne hast; hier blüht dem schatzbegier'gen Glück; des Indra Gaben bringen Heil.
Komm, wir wollen dir, Indra, erbauliche Worte zur Stärkung machen, an denen du Gewaltigster Gefallen haben sollst. Glück werde dem Ruhmsuchenden hier. - Glückbringend sind Indra´s Gaben.
Приезжай, мы хотим создать тебе,
О Индра, подкрепляющие священные слова,
Которые тебе понравятся, о самый сильный!
(да будет) счастье здесь тому, кто ищет славы!

धृषत᳓श् चिद् धृष᳓न् म᳓नः
कृणो᳓षि इन्द्र य᳓त् तुव᳓म्
तीव्रइः᳓ सो᳓मैः सपर्यतो᳓
न᳓मोभिः प्रतिभू᳓षतो
भद्रा᳓ इ᳓न्द्रस्य रात᳓यः
हे इन्द्र धृषतश्चित् धृष्टादपि धृषत् धृष्टं मनः कृणोषि । अत्यन्तं धृष्टं करोषि । यत् यस्मात् त्वं तीव्रैः मदजनकैः सोमैः सपर्यतः पूजयतः नमोभिः नमस्कारैश्च प्रतिभूषतः अलंकुर्वतो यजमानस्याभिमतं दित्ससीति शेषः ॥
For thou, O Indra, makest yet more bold the spirit of the bold
Who with strong Soma serveth thee, still ready with his reverent prayers.
Bold also is the mind of (you,) the bold, o Indra, when you act
for the man who renders service with sharp soma drops, who attends with homages.
– Auspicious are the gifts of Indra.
Noch kühner wird des kühnen Muth, wenn du, o Indra, ihn erregst, Dem, der mit scharfem Trank dich ehrt und mit Gebeten dich erfreut, des Indra Gaben bringen Heil.
Da du, Indra, selbst des Kühnen Sinn noch kühner machst, der mit scharfen Somasäften dir Ehre erweist und mit Verbeugungen dich erwartet. - Glückbringend sind Indra´s Gaben.
Поскольку даже у отважного ты делаешь
Дух (еще более) отважным, о Индра,
Для почитающего (тебя) острыми соками сомы,
Служащего (тебе) поклонениями,
Дары Индры несут счастье.
अ᳓व चष्ट ऋ᳓चीषमो
अवताँ᳓ इव मा᳓नुषः
जुष्ट्वी᳓ द᳓क्षस्य सोमि᳓नः
स᳓खायं कृणुते यु᳓जम्
भद्रा᳓ इ᳓न्द्रस्य रात᳓यः
अयमिन्द्रः ऋचीषमः ऋचा स्तुत्या समस्तथा परिच्छिन्नः सन् अव चष्टे पश्यत्यनुग्रहेणास्मान् । तत्र दृष्टान्तः । मानुषः मनुष्यः अवतान् अवटान् कूपादिप्रदेशान् इव । दृष्ट्वा च जुष्वी ् प्रीतोऽयं दक्षस्य प्रवृद्धस्य सोमिनः यजमानस्य युजं युज्यमात्मानं सखायं कृणुते करोति । तस्याभिमतं साधयतीत्यर्थः । अथवा । तृषितो मनुष्यो जलपूर्णानवटानिव स्तुतः सन् पश्यति सोमं पातुम् । पश्चादवेक्षितं तं युज्यमानं सोमं जुष्ट्वी सेवित्वा दक्षस्य सोमिनः सखायं कुरुते ॥ ॥ ४० ॥
Worthy of song, he looketh down as a man looketh into wells.
Pleased with the Soma-bringer's skill he maketh him his mate and friend.
He who is equal to song gazes down on the (soma-)springs like a man into wells.
Finding pleasure, he makes a partner and yokemate of the skillful
soma-bearer.
– Auspicious are the gifts of Indra.
Es blickt der glänzende herab, wie auf den Wasserquell der Mensch, Und durch des Opfrers Geist erfreut, macht er ihn zum Genossen sich; des Indra Gaben bringen Heil.
Der ....... schaut herab wie der Mensch in die Brunnen. An dem geschickten Somabereiter findet er Gefallen und macht ihn zu seinem verbündeten Freund. - Glückbringend sind Indra´s Gaben.

वि᳓श्वे त इन्द्र वीरि᳓यं
देवा᳓ अ᳓नु क्र᳓तुं ददुः
भु᳓वो वि᳓श्वस्य गो᳓पतिः पुरुष्टुत
भद्रा᳓ इ᳓न्द्रस्य रात᳓यः
हे इन्द्र ते तव वीर्यं सामर्थ्यं क्रतुं प्रज्ञां च अनु अनुसृत्य विश्वे सर्वे देवाः ददुः। दधुः । धारयन्ति वीर्यं प्रज्ञा च । तव बलेन प्रज्ञया च तेऽपि बलिनः प्रज्ञावन्तश्च भवन्तीत्यर्थः । तादृशस्त्वं गोपतिः प्रसिद्धानां गवामुदकानां स्तुतिवचसो वा पतिः भुवः भवसि । विश्वस्य इत्येतत् पदान्तर्गतस्यापि गोशब्दस्य विशेषः । हे पुरुष्टुत बहुभिः स्तुतेन्द्र भवसीति समन्वयः ॥
In strength and wisdom all the Gods, Indra, have yielded unto thee.
Be thou the Guard of all, O thou whom many praise.
All the gods conceded heroism and resolve to you.
You became the herdsman of all, o you praised by many.
– Auspicious are the gifts of Indra.
Dir stehen alle Götter nach an Weisheit, Indra, und an Kraft, Du bist des Alls Behüter, vielgepriesener; des Indra Gaben bringen Heil.
Alle Götter gestanden dir, Indra, die Heldenstärke, die Einsicht zu: Du wardst der Herr des Alls, du Vielgepriesener. - Glückbringend sind Indra´s Gaben.
Все боги уступили тебе,
О Индра, мужество, силу духа.
Ты стал повелителем всего, о многопрославленный.
Дары Индры несут счастье.
गृणे᳓ त᳓द् इन्द्र ते श᳓व
उपमं᳓ देव᳓तातये
य᳓द् धं᳓सि वृत्र᳓म् ओ᳓जसा शचीपते
भद्रा᳓ इ᳓न्द्रस्य रात᳓यः
हे इन्द्र ते तव तत् शवः बलम् उपमम् अन्तिकं देवतातये यजमानाय यज्ञार्थं वा गृणे स्तुवे । यत् यस्माद्धे शचीपते वृत्रम् ओजसा बलेन हंसि तस्मात्ते शवो गृणे ॥
Praised, Indra, is this might of thine, best for the service of the Gods,
That thou with power dost slay Vrtra, O Lord of Strength.
I sing that utmost strength of yours, Indra, for the divine assembly, that you smash Vr̥tra with your might, o lord of ability.
– Auspicious are the gifts of Indra.
Ich preise, Indra, deine Kraft, die höchstes Heil den Göttern bringt, Wenn du mit Macht den Vritra schlägst, o Herr der Kraft; des Indra Gaben bringen Heil.
Ich preise, Indra, diese deine höchste Gewalt, daß du für die Götterschaft mit Übermacht den Vritra erschlägst, Herr der Kraft. - Glückbringend sind Indra´s Gaben.
Я воспеваю, о Индра, то твое высшее
Могущество, что ты для сонма богов
Мощно убиваешь Вритру, о повелитель силы.

स᳓मनेव वपुष्यतः᳓
कृण᳓वन् मा᳓नुषा युगा᳓
विदे᳓ त᳓द् इ᳓न्द्रश् चे᳓तनम् अ᳓ध श्रुतो᳓
भद्रा᳓ इ᳓न्द्रस्य रात᳓यः
समनेव समानमनस्का योषिदिव सा यथा वपुष्यतः वपुरिच्छतः पुरुषान् कृणवत् करोति स्ववशान् एवमयमिन्द्रः मानुषा मनुष्यान् युगा युगानि कालान् संवत्सरायनर्तुमासादीन् विदे लम्भयति । तत् युगनिर्माणात्मकं कर्म इन्द्रः चेतनं सर्वस्य प्रज्ञापकं कृतवानिति शेषः । अध अथैवं कृत्वा श्रुतः सर्वत्र ख्यातोऽभूत् ॥
He makes the races of mankind like synods of the Beauteous One.
Indra knows this his manifest deed, and is renowned.
He will make those who marvel at him into festive assemblies, as it were, throughout the generations of men.
Indra knows his own distinctive sign: he is famed (for it).
– Auspicious are the gifts of Indra.
Die Menschenstämme mache er zu Scharen von Bewunderern; Der hochberühmte Indra hat ja solchen Glanz; des Indra Gaben bringen Heil.
Er soll die menschlichen Geschlechter gleichsam zu anstaunenden Versammlungen machen. Indra versteht sich aufs Aufsehenerregen; darum ist er berühmt. - Glückbringend sind Indra´s Gaben.
Пусть превратит он человеческие поколения
В дивящихся (его силе), словно на праздничных собраниях.
Индра умеет возникать, тем и знаменит
Дары Индры несут счастье.
उ᳓ज् जात᳓म् इन्द्र ते श᳓व
उ᳓त् तुवा᳓म् उ᳓त् त᳓व क्र᳓तुम्
भू᳓रिगो भू᳓रि वावृधुर्
म᳓घवन् त᳓व श᳓र्मणि
भद्रा᳓ इ᳓न्द्रस्य रात᳓यः
हे इन्द्र उत् । अयं व्यवहितेनापि वावृधुः इत्यनेन संबध्यते । उद्वर्धयन्ति सोमेन । किम् । ते शवः बलम् । न केवलं बलं किंतु त्वाम् उत् वर्धयन्ति स्तुत्यादिना । पश्चात् तव क्रतुं प्रज्ञां स्वानुकूलाम् उत् वर्धयन्ति। भूरि इत्येतत् प्रत्याख्यातं संबध्यते । अतिप्रभूतमुद्वर्धयन्तीत्यर्थः । क एवं कुर्वन्तीति उच्यते । हे भूरिगो बहुपशो हे मघवन् धनवन्निन्द्र तव शर्मणि त्वदीये सुखे ये वर्तन्ते ते च कुर्वन्तीति ॥
Thy might, O Indra, at its birth, thee also, and thy mental power,
In thy care, Maghavan rich in kine! they have increased exceedingly.
They have increased your new-born strength, Indra, increased you and your resolve
many times, o you of many cows, under your shelter, bounteous one. – Auspicious are the gifts of Indra.
Die Kraft, die, Indra dir erstand, und dich und deine Geistesmacht O rinderreicher, stärkten sie, o reicher, oft in deinem Sitz; des Indra Gaben bringen Heil.
Sie haben deine neugeborene Kraft und dich und deine Umsicht, o Rinderreicher, vielmals erhöht in deinem Schutz, du Gabenreicher. - Glückbringend sind Indra´s Gaben.
Твою (едва) родившуюся силу, о Индра,
Тебя (самого), твою силу духа,
О хозяин многих коров, они увеличили во много раз,
О щедрый, под твоей защитой.

अहं᳓ च त्वं᳓ च वृत्रहन्
सं᳓ युज्याव सनि᳓भ्य आ᳓
अरातीवा᳓ चिद् अद्रिवो
अ᳓नु नौ शूर मंसते
भद्रा᳓ इ᳓न्द्रस्य रात᳓यः
हे वृत्रहन् इन्द्र त्वं च अहं च सं युज्याव संगतौ भवाव । कियदवधीति उच्यते । सनिभ्य आ यावता कालेन धनानि लभ्यन्ते तावत्कालम् । नौ संगतयोश्चावयोर्हे अद्रिवः वज्रवन् इन्द्र अरातीवा अदानोऽपि जनस्त्वद्दत्तधनस्य अनु मंसते अनुमतिं करोति ॥
O Vrtra-slayer, thou and I will both combine for winning spoil.
Even malignity will consent, O Bolt-armed Hero, unto us.
I and you, o Vr̥tra-smasher—let us two yoke ourselves together for winnings.
Even a hostile man, o master of the stones, will yield to the two of us, o champion.
– Auspicious are the gifts of Indra.
Wir wollen, Vritratödter, uns zum Sieg verbünden, ich und du; Dann wird, o Held, o Schleuderer, uns weichen jeder Bösewicht; des Indra Gaben bringen Heil.
Ich und du, Vritratöter, wir wollen uns verbünden zum Gewinn. Auch der Mißgünstige soll uns beiden gewogen sein, o Held, Herr des Preßsteins. - Glückbringend sind Indra´s Gaben.
Я и ты, о убийца Вритры,
Хотим обьединиться вдвоем – для достижений.
Даже недоброжелатель, о хозяин давильных камней,
Будем уступать нам двоим, о герой.

सत्य᳓म् इ᳓द् वा᳓ उ तं᳓ वय᳓म्
इ᳓न्द्रं स्तवाम ना᳓नृतम्
महाँ᳓ अ᳓सुन्वतो वधो᳓
भू᳓रि ज्यो᳓तींषि सुन्वतो᳓
भद्रा᳓ इ᳓न्द्रस्य रात᳓यः
वयं प्रगाथाः तम् इन्द्रं सत्यमित् सत्यमेव स्तवाम । नानृतम् असत्यं न स्तवाम । अस्माभिरुक्ता गुणाः सत्या एवं सन्तु नानृता इत्यर्थः । स्तुत्यस्येन्द्रस्य संबन्धि असुन्वतः अयष्टुः । वधः महान् प्रभूतो भवति । भूरि ज्योतींषि बहून् सोमान् सुन्वतः अभिषवं कुर्वतो यजमानस्येन्द्रकृतोऽनुग्रहो महान् भवतीत्यर्थः ॥ ॥ ११ ॥
Let us extol this Indra as truthful and never as untrue.
Dire is his death who pours no gifts great light hath he who offers them. Good are the gifts that Indra gives.
This is really true—and thus we shall praise this Indra—not false: he is the great weapon of death for the man who does not press soma, but many are his lights for the man who does press.
– Auspicious are the gifts of Indra.
Ihn, den wahrhaften, preisen wir, den Indra, welcher nimmer trügt; Den somalosen schlägt der Held, und segnet den, der Soma presst; des Indra Gaben bringen Heil.
Nur der Wahrheit gemäß wollen wir trauen, den Indra preisen, nicht unwahr. Der Große ist der Tod des Nichtpressenden; reiches Licht ist er für den Pressenden. - Glückbringend sind Indra´s Gaben.
Только по правде будем мы восхвалять
Этого Индру, (а) не против истины.
Великий – погибель для не выжимающего (сому).
Много света (бывает) у выжимающего.
