ऋषिकुरुसुतिः काण्वः
देवताइन्द्रः

छन्दगायत्री
इमं᳓ नु᳓ मायि᳓नं हुव
इ᳓न्द्रम् ई᳓शानम् ओ᳓जसा
मरु᳓त्वन्तं न᳓ वृञ्ज᳓से
इमं मायिनं प्रज्ञावन्तम् ओजसा स्वबलेन ईशानं सर्वस्य स्वामिनं मरुत्वन्तं न । नेति संप्रत्यर्थे । मरुद्भिस्तद्वन्तमिदानीम् इन्द्रं वृञ्जसे शत्रूणां छेदनाय हुवे आह्वयामि ॥
इ॒मं नु मा॒यिनं॑ हुव॒ इन्द्र॒मीशा॑न॒मोज॑सा ।
म॒रुत्व॑न्तं॒ न वृ॒ञ्जसे॑ ॥
This master of artifice here I now invoke, Indra, holding sway by his might,
accompanied by the Maruts—as if to twist (him here).

Diesen listenreichen Indra rufe ich jetzt, der durch seine Stärke mächtig ist, den Marutbegleiteten, um ihn gleichsam in Beschlag zu nehmen.
अय᳓म् इ᳓न्द्रो मरु᳓त्सखा
वि᳓ वृत्र᳓स्याभिनच् छि᳓रः
व᳓ज्रेण शत᳓पर्वणा
अयमिन्द्रो मरुत्सखा मरुद्युक्तः वृत्रस्य वि अभिनत् व्यच्छिनत् शिरः वज्रेण शतपर्वणा शतसंधिना ॥
This Indra with his Marut Friends clave into pieces Vrtra's bead
With hundred-knotted thunderbolt.
This Indra here, with the Maruts as comrades, split apart the head of Vr̥tra
with a hundred-jointed mace.

Dieser Indra mit den Marut als Kameraden zerspaltete des Vritra Haupt mit der hundertknorrigen Keule.
वावृधानो᳓ मरु᳓त्सखा
इ᳓न्द्रो वि᳓ वृत्र᳓म् ऐरयत्
सृज᳓न् समुद्रि᳓या अपः᳓
अयम् इन्द्रः वावृधानः वर्धमानः मरुत्सखा मरुत्सहायः वृत्रं मेघं वि ऐरयत् विदारितवान् । किं कुर्वन् । समुद्रियाः । समुद्रमन्तरिक्षम् । तत्संबन्धिन्यः अपः सृजन् ।
Indra, with Marut Friends grown strong, hath rent asunder Vrtra, and
Released the waters of the sea.
Having grown strong, with the Maruts as comrades, Indra propelled Vr̥tra apart,
releasing the waters of the sea.
Umschart von Maruts trieb hinweg den Vritra Indra kraftbegabt Und liess des Meeres Wasser frei.
Erstarkt hat Indra mit den Marut als Kameraden den Vritra zerstückt, die nach dem Meere laufenden Gewässer freilassend.
अयं᳓ ह ये᳓न वा᳓ इदं᳓
सु᳓वर् मरु᳓त्वता जित᳓म्
इ᳓न्द्रेण सो᳓मपीतये
अयं ह' खल्विन्द्रः येन वै येन खलु मरुत्वता मरुद्भिर्युक्तेन इन्द्रेण इदं स्वः स्वर्गाख्यं स्थानमिदं स्वः सर्वं कर्म वा यद्वेदं सर्वं जगत् जितम् । किमर्थम् । सोमपीतये सोमपानाय ॥
This is that Indra who, begirt by Maruts, won the light of heaven
That he might drink the Soma juice.
Here he is—the one by whom in truth this sun was won,
by Indra, accompanied by the Maruts—to drink the soma.
Ja, Indra mit der Marutschar, er ist's, durch den dies Himmelslicht Errungen ward zum Somatrunk.
Dieser Indra, der Marutbegleitete, der ja diese Sonne erobert hat, komme zum Somatrinken.
मरु᳓त्वन्तम् ऋजीषि᳓णम्
ओ᳓जस्वन्तं विरप्शि᳓नम्
इ᳓न्द्रं गीर्भि᳓र् हवामहे
मरुत्वन्तं मरुद्भिस्तद्वन्तम् ऋजीषिणम् । अभिषुतशेष ऋजीषः । स च तृतीयसवने पुनः सूयते । तद्वन्तम् ओजस्वन्तम् । ओजो नामाष्टमी दशा । शरीरवृद्ध्युपेतमित्यर्थः । विरप्शिनम् । महन्नामैतत् । महान्तमेवंमहानुभावम् इन्द्रं गीर्भिः स्तुतिभिः हवामहे आह्वयामः ॥
Mighty, impetuous, begirt by Maruts, him who loudly roars,
Indra we invocate with songs.
Accompanied by the Maruts, possessing the silvery drink, mighty, conferring abundance—
Indra do we invoke with songs.
Den mächt'gen mit der Marutschar, der vorwärts dringt mit Kraft begabt, Mit Liedern rufen Indra wir.
Den marutbegleiteten Indra, den Trestertrinker, den starken, im Überfluß lebenden, rufen wir mit Lobliedern.
इ᳓न्द्रम् प्रत्ने᳓न म᳓न्मना
मरु᳓त्वन्तं हवामहे
अस्य᳓ सो᳓मस्य पीत᳓ये
मरुत्वन्तम् इन्द्रं प्रत्नेन पुराणेन मन्मना मननीयेन स्तोत्रेण हवामहे अस्य सोमस्य पीतये पानाय ॥ ॥ २७ ॥
Indra begirt by Maruts we invoke after the ancient plan,
That he may drink the Soma juice.
Indra, accompanied by the Maruts, we invoke with our age-old
thought,
to drink of this soma here.

Den marutbegleiteten Indra rufen wir mit einem alten Gedicht zum Trunk dieses Soma.
मरु᳓त्वाँ इन्द्र मीढुवः
पि᳓बा सो᳓मं शतक्रतो
अस्मि᳓न् यज्ञे᳓ पुरुष्टुत
हे मीढ्वः फलस्य वृष्टेर्वा सेक्तः शतक्रतो बहुकर्मन् इन्द्र त्वं मरुत्वान् सोमं पिब अस्मिन् यज्ञे हे पुरुष्टुत बहुभिराहूत ॥
O liberal Indra, Marut-girt, much-lauded Satakratu, drink
The Soma at this sacrifice.
O Indra, accompanied by the Maruts, giver of rewards, drink the soma, you of a hundred resolves,
at this sacrifice here, much praised one.
Den Soma mit den Maruts trink, o Indra, gnädig, thatenreich, Bei diesem Opfer hochgelobt.
Von den Marut begleitet trink du, belohnender, ratreicher Indra, den Soma bei diesem Opfer, du Vielgepriesener!
तु᳓भ्ये᳓द् इन्द्र मरु᳓त्वते
सुताः᳓ सो᳓मासो अद्रिवः
हृदा᳓ हूयन्त उक्थि᳓नः
हे अद्रिवः वज्रवन् इन्द्र मरुत्वते तुभ्येत् तुभ्यमेव सोमासः सुताः अभिषुताः । ते च उक्थिनः शस्त्रवन्तः हृदा मनसा भक्त्या हूयन्ते त्वदर्थम् ॥
To thee, O Indra, Marut-girt, these Soma juices, Thunderer!
Are offered from the heart with lauds.
Just for you, o Indra, accompanied by the Maruts, possessor of the stone, are the pressed soma-drinks,
provided with hymns, poured out with our whole heart.
Dir, Indra, mit der Marutschar sind Somasäft', o Schleuderer, Mit Lust ergossen liederreich.
Dir, Indra, dem Marutbegleiteten, werden die ausgepreßten Somatränke, o Herr des Preßsteins, nebst einem Loblied von Herzen geopfert.
पि᳓बे᳓द् इन्द्र मरु᳓त्सखा
सुतं᳓ सो᳓मं दि᳓विष्टिषु
व᳓ज्रं शि᳓शान ओ᳓जसा
हे इन्द्र मरुत्सखा त्वं सुतम् अभिषुतं सोमं पिब । किमर्थम् । दिविष्टिषु अस्माकमह्नामभिगमनेषु दिवः स्वर्गस्य वैषणेषु निमित्तेषु । पीत्वा च ओजसा बलेन सोमपानजनितेन वज्रं शिशानः तीक्ष्णीकुर्वन् । शत्रूञ्जहीति भावः ॥
Drink, Indra, with thy Marut Friends, pressed Soma at the morning rites,
Whetting thy thunderbolt with strength.
Just drink, o Indra, with the Maruts as comrades, the pressed soma at the rituals of the day,
sharpening your mace with might.
Trink, Indra, mit der Marutschar den Somasäft beim Opferfest, Mit Kraft dir schärfend deinen Blitz.
Trink doch, Indra mit den Marut als Kameraden bei den heutigen Opfern den ausgepreßten Soma, indem du deine Keule mit Kraft schärfst!
उत्ति᳓ष्ठन्न् ओ᳓जसा सह᳓
पीत्वी᳓ शि᳓प्रे अवेपयः
सो᳓मम् इन्द्र चमू᳓ सुत᳓म्
हे इन्द्र त्वं पीत्वी पीत्वा ओजसा बलेन सह उत्तिष्ठन् शिप्रे हनू अवेपयः अकम्पयः । मदावेशादिति भावः । किं पीत्वा । चमू चम्वोरधिषवणफलकयोः सुतं सोमम् ॥
Arising in thy might, thy jaws thou shookest, Indra, having quaffed
The Soma which the mortar pressed.
Standing up with your might, you made your two lips shake after you had drunk
the pressed soma in the cup, Indra.1174 VIII.77
Du schütteltest die Lippen dir, erhebend Indra dich mit Kraft, Nach des gepressten Soma Trunk.
Mit deiner Kraft aufstehend hast du, Indra, die Lippen geschüttelt, nachdem du den in dem Camugefäß ausgequetschten Soma getrunken hast.
अ᳓नु त्वा रो᳓दसी उभे᳓
क्र᳓क्षमाणम् अकृपेताम्
इ᳓न्द्र य᳓द् दस्युहा᳓भवः
हे इन्द्र क्रक्षमाणं शत्रून् विलिखन्तं त्वा त्वाम् उभे रोदसी उभे अपि द्यावापृथिव्यौ अनु अकृपेताम् अनुकल्पयेताम् । यत् यदा दस्युहा अभवः भवसि तदा ॥
Indra, both worlds complained to thee when uttering thy fearful roar,
What time thou smotest Dasyus dead.
Both the world-halves yearned after you as you howled,
Indra, when you became the smiter of the Dasyus.
Dir seufzten beide Welten nach dem brausenden, als Indra du Vernichter der Dämonen warst.
Beide Welten fügten sich dir, dem Lärmenden, als du Indra, der Dasyutöter wardst.
वा᳓चम् अष्टा᳓पदीम् अहं᳓
न᳓वस्रक्तिम् ऋतस्पृ᳓शम्
इ᳓न्द्रात् प᳓रि तन्व᳡म् ममे
अष्टापदीम् । अष्टाभिर्दिग्भिर्विदिग्भिः साष्टापदी । नवस्रक्तिम् उपरि स्थितेनादित्येन नवस्रक्तिम् । आसु दिक्षु व्याप्तमित्यर्थः । ऋतस्पृशं यज्ञस्पृशं वाचं स्तुतिम् अहं परिपूर्णत् इन्द्रात् तन्वं तनुं न्यूनां सती परि ममे । अन्यूनेयत्तां करोमीत्यर्थः । कार्येस्न् न स्वरूपं स्तुत्या विषयीकर्तुमशक्यत्वादिति भावः ॥ ॥ २८ ॥
From Indra have I measured out a song eight-footed with nine parts,
Delicate, faithful. to the Law.
An eight-footed nine-cornered speech that touches the truth—
I have measured out its body because of Indra.
Achtsilbiges, neunzeiliges, herzrührendes, erhabnes Lied Hab' ich dem Indra zugetheilt.
Die achtfüßige, neunseitige Rede, die die Wahrheit trifft, habe ich im Vergleich mit Indra zu klein bemessen.
