ऋषिकुरुसुतिः काण्वः

छन्दगायत्री
पुरोळा᳓शं नो अ᳓न्धस
इ᳓न्द्र सह᳓स्रम् आ᳓ भर
शता᳓ च शूर गो᳓ना᳐म्
हे शूर इन्द्र पुरोळाशं पुरो दीयमानमेतत्संज्ञकम् अन्धसः अन्नं स्वीकृत्य गोनां गवां सहस्रं शता शतानि च नः अस्मभ्यम् आ भर आहर। अथवा नोऽस्मभ्यं पुरतो दीयमानमन्धसोऽन्धो व्यञ्जनं सहस्रं सहस्रसंख्याकं गोसहस्रं चाहरेति योज्यम्
BRING us a thousand, Indra, as our guerdon for the Soma juice:
Hundreds of kine, O Hero, bring.
(Taking pleasure) in the offering cake and of the soma-stalk, Indra, bring here to us a thousand
and a hundred cows, o champion.
Reiskuchen bring, o Indra, uns und tausend Somatränke her Und hundert Kühe uns, o Held.
Koste unseren Reiskuchen zum Somatrank; bring Tausend und Hunderte von Kühen mit, o Held!
आ᳓ नो भर विअ᳓ञ्जनं
गा᳓म् अ᳓श्वम् अभिअ᳓ञ्जनम्
स᳓चा मना᳓ हिरण्य᳓या
हे इन्द्र त्वं नः अस्मभ्यं व्यञ्जनं गामश्वमभ्यञ्जनं तैलं च आ भर। मना मननीयानि हिरण्यया हिरण्मयान्युपकरणानि सचा सहाभरेति ॥
Bring cattle, bring us ornament, bring us embellishment and steeds,
Give us, besides, two rings of gold.
Bring here to us an ornament, a cow, a horse, an adornment,
along with golden jewelry.
O bringe Schmuck und Rinder uns und Rosse und Geschmeide her Zugleich mit goldenem Geräth.
Bring das, was ziert, Rind, Roß, Salböl nebst goldener Schabracke!
उत᳓ नः कर्णशो᳓भना
पुरू᳓णि धृष्णव् आ᳓ भर
तुवं᳓ हि᳓ शृण्विषे᳓ वसो
उत अपि च नः अस्मभ्यं कर्णशोभना कर्णाभरणानि पुरूणि बहूनि आ भर । हे धृष्णो धर्षकेन्द्र वसो वासयितरिन्द्र त्वं हि खलु शृण्विषे श्रूयसे । किमिति । उदारोऽयमिन्द्र इति ॥
And, Bold One, bring in ample store rich jewels to adorn thi; ear,
For thou, Good Lord, art far renowned.
And bring here to us many earrings, bold one,
for you are famed as a good one.
Und viele Ohrgehänge auch, o Kühner, bringe uns herbei; Denn als den guten rühmt man dich.
Und bring uns viele Ohrringe, du Mutiger, denn du bist als der Gütige bekannt!
न᳓कीं वृधीक᳓ इन्द्र ते
न᳓ सुषा᳓ न᳓ सुदा᳓ उत᳓
ना᳓न्य᳓स् त्व᳓च् छूर वाघ᳓तः
हे इन्द्र ते त्वत्तोऽन्यः कश्चित् वृधीकः वर्धयिता नकीं नैव । तथा सुषाः सुष्ठु संभक्ता संग्रामादौ त्वत्तोऽन्यः न । उत अपि च सुदाः सुदाता न । तथा हे शूर त्वत् त्वत्तोऽन्यः वाघतः । ऋत्विग्नामैतत् । ऋत्विजो यजमानस्य नेता नान्यः अस्ति त्वामृते ॥
None other is there for the priest, Hero! but thou, to give him gifts,
To win much spoil and prosper him.
Never is another man within your abundance, Indra. There is no good winner and no good giver
other than you for the cantor, o champion.
Niemand, o Indra, kommt dir gleich, kein andrer ist, der so wie du Dem Frommen Schönes schafft und gibt.
Denn es gibt keinen anderen Bereicherer oder guten Lohner und guten Schenker für den Sänger als dich, Held Indra.
न᳓कीम् इ᳓न्द्रो नि᳓कर्तवे
न᳓ शक्रः᳓ प᳓रिशक्तवे
वि᳓श्वं शृणोति प᳓श्यति
अयम् इन्द्रः निकर्तवे निकर्तुं नकीं नैव शक्यः । तथा शक्रः शक्तोऽयं परिशक्तवे” परिभावाय न शक्यत इति । स तु विश्वं शृणोति पश्यति च ॥ ॥ ३१ ॥ स मन्यु मनामदब्धो नि चिकीषते । पुरा निदर्थिकीषते ॥ ६ ॥
Indra can never be brought low, Sakra can never be subdued:
He heareth and beholdeth all.
Never is Indra to be put down nor the able one to be circumvented. He hears and sees all.
Indra ist zu besiegen nicht, der starke zu bezwingen nie; Er hört und sieht das ganze All.
Indra ist nicht hereinzulegen, noch ist Macht über den Mächtigen zu gewinnen. Alles hört, sieht er.
स᳓ मन्यु᳓म् म᳓र्तियाना᳐म्
अ᳓दब्धो नि᳓ चिकीषते
पुरा᳓ निद᳓श् चिकीषते
सः इन्द्रः मन्युं क्रोधम् । केषाम् । मर्त्यानाम् । अदब्धः केनाप्यहिंसितः सन् नि चिकीषते निकरोति । किं मन्यु प्राप्यैव नेत्याह । निदः निन्दायाः पुरा पूर्वमेव चिकीषते । यदा तं निन्दितुमिच्छति कश्चित्ततः पूर्वमेव तं निकरोतीत्यर्थः ॥
He spieth out the wrath of man, he who can never be deceived:
Ere blame can come he marketh it.
Not to be outwitted, he watches out for the fury of mortals,
watches out before the insult (comes).
Er, der Untrügliche, beschaut den Eifer aller Sterblichen, Bewahret vor dem Schmäher sie.
Der Unbetörte erforscht die Absicht der Sterblichen; noch bevor sie den Tadel aussprechen, erforscht er sie.
क्र᳓त्व इ᳓त् पूर्ण᳓म् उद᳓रं
तुर᳓स्य अस्ति विधतः᳓
वृत्रघ्नः᳓ सोमपा᳓वनः
तुरस्य त्वरमाणस्य वृत्रघ्नः वृत्रं हतवतः सोमपाव्नः सोमपातुः उदरं क्रत्व इत् कर्मणैव पूर्णम् अस्ति भवति । कस्य कर्मणेति उच्यते । विधतः परिचरतो यजमानस्य । यतः परिचरणाभावे तस्य कुक्षिपूर्त्यभावोऽतस्तत्पूर्तये परिचरतेति शेषः ॥
He hath his stomach full of might, the Vrtra-slayer, Conqueror,
The Soma-drinker, ordering all.
Full of resolve is the belly of the powerful, (booty-)apportioning,
Vr̥tra-smiting drinker of soma.
Mit Krafttrunk ist sein Bauch gefüllt, des mächt'gen, der den Vritra schlägt, Des holden, der den Soma trinkt.
Der Bauch des Vritratöters und Somatrinkers ist voll der überlegenen, ihm ergebenen Weisheit.
तुवे᳓ व᳓सूनि सं᳓गता
वि᳓श्वा च सोम सउ᳓भगा
सुदा᳓तु अ᳓परिह्वृता
हे इन्द्र त्वे त्वयि वसूनि धनान्यस्मदिष्टानि संगता संगतानि । तथा हे सोम सोमवन्निन्द्र त्वयि विश्वा सर्वाणि सौभगा सौभाग्यानि संगतानि । तथा सुदातु सुदानानि अपरिह्वृता अकुटिलानि । अतस्तानि कुर्विति भावः । यद्वा । इन्द्रः सोमं पीत्वा सोम इत्यभिहितः सोमश्रुतेः ॥
In thee all treasures are combined, Soma all blessed things in thee,
Uninjured, easy to bestow.
In you are goods united and all auspicious things, o Soma,
goods good for giving, not to go astray.
In dir, o Indra, sind vereint die Güter, alle Herrlichkeit, Vieltheilig, unbeschädiget.
Bei dir sind alle Schätze und alle Glücksgüter vereinigt, o Soma, die schön zu schenken, nie an den Unrechten kommen.
तुवा᳓म् इ᳓द् यवयु᳓र् म᳓म
का᳓मो गव्यु᳓र् हिरण्ययुः᳓
तुवा᳓म् अश्वयु᳓र् ए᳓षते
त्वामित् त्वामेव एषते । किम् । मम कामः । स कीदृशः । यवयुः यवेच्छुः सन्नेषते । तथा गव्युः सन्नेषते । तथा हिरण्ययुः च सन्नेषते । तथा अश्वयुः च सन्नेषते । तं काममाप्तेच्छं कुर्विति भावः ॥
To thee speeds forth my hope that craves the gift of corn, and kine and gold,
Yea, craving horses, speeds to thee.
Just toward you does my desire hasten, seeking grain, seeking cattle, seeking gold,
toward you, seeking horses.
Zu dir ja strebet hin mein Wunsch, der Gerste, Rinder, Gold begehrt, Zu dir mein Wunsch nach Rossbesitz.
Zu dir strebt mein Wunsch, der nach Korn und Rind und Gold verlangt, zu dir mein Wunsch, der nach Rossen verlangt.
त᳓वे᳓द् इन्द्राह᳓म् आश᳓सा
ह᳓स्ते दा᳓त्रं चना᳓ ददे
दिन᳓स्य वा मघवन् स᳓म्भृतस्य वा
पूर्धि᳓ य᳓वस्य काशि᳓ना
हे इन्द्र तवेत् तवैव आशसा आशंसनेन त्वमस्मदीयं क्षेत्रं यवसमृद्धं करोषीत्याशंसनेन हस्ते दात्रं चन लवनसाधनं दात्रमपि आ ददे स्वीकरोमि । किमनेन प्रयासेन । दिनस्य वा पूर्वमेव छिन्नस्य वा यवस्य संभृतस्य वा पूर्वमेव छित्त्वा निष्कृतस्य राशीकृतस्य वा यवस्य काशिना मुष्टिना पूर्धि पूरय । आशंसनं देहि च ॥ ॥ ३२ ॥
Indra, through hope in thee alone even this sickle do I grasp.
Fill my hand, Maghavan, with all that it can hold of barley cut or gathered up.
With my hope on you, Indra, I never take scythe in hand.
Supply us with grain by the handful, whether just mown or already
stacked together, bounteous one.
Aus Verlangen nach dir, o Indra, nahm ich auch die Sichel in die Hand; beschenke uns, o mächtiger mit abgeschnittener oder eingesammelter Gerste, soviel deine Hand fassen kann.
In der Hoffnung auf dich, Indra, nehme ich nicht einmal die Sichel in die Hand. Von dem geschnittenen oder zusammengerafften Korne spende mit voller Hand, du Gabenreicher!
