ऋषिअसितः काश्यपो देवलो वा
देवतापवमानः सोमः

छन्दगायत्री
सोमा॑ असृग्र॒मिन्द॑वः सु॒ता ऋ॒तस्य॒ साद॑ने । इन्द्रा॑य॒ मधु॑मत्तमाः ॥
सोमाः॑ । अ॒सृ॒ग्र॒म् । इन्द॑वः । सु॒ताः । ऋ॒तस्य॑ । सद॑ने । इन्द्रा॑य । मधु॑मत्ऽतमाः ॥
सुताः अभिषुताः मधुमत्तमाः अतिशयेन मधुमन्तः इन्दवः सोमाः ऋतस्य यज्ञस्य सादने गृहे इन्द्राय इन्द्रार्थम् असृग्रं सृज्यन्ते ॥
“The most sweet-flavoured Soma libations are poured forth to Indra in the hall of sacrifice.”
To Indra have the Soma drops, exceeding rich in sweets, been poured,
Shed in the seat of sacrifice.
The soma juices have surged, the drops pressed in the seat of truth, most honeyed for Indra.
Des Soma Tropfen sind entströmt, die Säfte in des Rechtes Sitz, Dem Indra die berauschendsten.
Die Somasäfte haben sich ergossen, am Sitz des rechten Brauches ausgepreßt, die süßesten für Indra.
Выпущены соки сомы, капли,
Выжатые в сидении закона,
Самые сладкие для Индры.
अ॒भि विप्रा॑ अनूषत॒ गावो॑ व॒त्सं न मा॒तर॑: । इन्द्रं॒ सोम॑स्य पी॒तये॑ ॥
अ॒भि । विप्राः॑ । अ॒नू॒ष॒त॒ । गावः॑ । व॒त्सम् । न । मा॒तरः॑ । इन्द्र॑म् । सोम॑स्य । पी॒तये॑ ॥
विप्राः मेधाविनः सोमस्य पीतये पानाय इन्द्रं मातरः जनयित्र्यः गावः वत्सं न यथा वत्सं प्रति तद्वत् अभि अनूषत अभिशब्दयन्ति ॥
“The wise (priests) call upon Indra to drink the Soma as the mother low to their calves.”
As mother kine low to their calves, to Indra have the sages called,
Called him to drink the Soma juice.
The inspired poets have roared—like mother cows to their calf—
to Indra, to drink the soma.
Die Sänger haben haut geschrien nach Indra zu des Soma Trunk, Wie Mutterkühe nach dem Kalb.
Die Redekundigen haben, wie die Mutterkühe nach dem Kalbe, nach Indra geschrieen, daß er Soma trinken solle.
Вдохновенные (поэты) приветствовали криками,
Как коровы-матери теленка,
Индру, чтобы он пил сому.

म॒द॒ऽच्युत् । क्षे॒ति॒ । सद॑ने । सिन्धोः॑ । ऊ॒र्मा । वि॒पः॒ऽचित् । सोमः॑ । गौ॒री इति॑ । अधि॑ । श्रि॒तः ॥
मदच्युत् मदकरस्य रसस्य च्यावयिता सोमः सादने । संहितायां दीर्घश्छान्दसः । स्थाने क्षेति निवसति । एतदेव विवृणोति । सिन्धाः नद्याः ऊर्मा ऊर्मौ तरङ्गे। वसतीवरीष्वित्यर्थः । विपश्चित् विद्वान् सोमः गौरी अधि गौर्यामधि । अधीति सप्तम्यर्थानुवादः। माध्यमिकायां वाचि । ‘गौरी गान्धर्वी ' इति वाङ्नामसु पाठात् । श्रितः निवसति ॥
“The wise soma, the bestower of exhilaration, dwells in the hall of (sacrifice), mixed with the waves of the river to a chant in the middle tone.”
In the stream's wave wise Soma dwells, distilling rapture, in his seat,
Resting upon a wiId-cow's hide.
Arousing exhilaration, attentive to poetic inspiration, he dwells in his seat, in the wave of the river:
Soma is set upon the buffalo-cow.
Begeistert, Rausch erregend weilt in Stromes Wellen in dem Sitz Der Soma mit der Kuh vereint.
Rauscherregend weilt er auf seinem Platz, in des Stromes Woge, der redekundige Soma auf das Büffelfell gesetzt.
Возбуждающий опьянение живет в сидении (закона)
В волне реки, (этот) прозорливец
Сома, покоящийся на (шкуре) буйвола.
दि॒वो नाभा॑ विचक्ष॒णोऽव्यो॒ वारे॑ महीयते । सोमो॒ यः सु॒क्रतु॑: क॒विः ॥
दि॒वः । नाभा॑ । वि॒ऽच॒क्ष॒णः । अव्यः॑ । वारे॑ । म॒ही॒य॒ते॒ । सोमः॑ । यः । सु॒ऽक्रतुः॑ । क॒विः ॥
यः सुक्रतुः सुप्रज्ञः कविः क्रान्तकर्मा विचक्षणः विद्रष्टा सः सोमः दिवः अन्तरिक्षस्य नाभा नाभौ नाभिभूते अव्यः अवेः वारे वाले महीयते पूज्यते । पूयमानः स्तूयत इत्यर्थः ॥
“Soma, the observant, who is the wise seer, is worshipped in the navel of the sky, the woollen filter.”
Far-sighted Soma, Sage and Seer, is worshipped in the central point
Of heaven, the straining-cloth of wool.
In the navel of heaven, he, wide-gazing, shows his greatness in the sheep’s fleece:
Soma, who is a poet with good purpose.
Gewaltig zeigt der weise sich im Himmelssitz, im Widderfell, Ein Seher Soma, stark an Geist.
Im Nabel des Himmels fühlt sich der Hellesehende groß in der Schafwolle, der Soma, welcher der weise Seher ist.
Далеко смотрящий на пупе неба,
Он красуется в сите из овечьей шерсти,

यः सोम॑: क॒लशे॒ष्वाँ अ॒न्तः प॒वित्र॒ आहि॑तः । तमिन्दु॒: परि॑ षस्वजे ॥
यः । सोमः॑ । क॒लशे॑षु । आ । अ॒न्तरिति॑ । प॒वित्रे॑ । आऽहि॑तः । तम् । इन्दुः॑ । परि॑ । स॒स्व॒जे॒ ॥
यः सोमः कलशेषु कुम्भेषु आ आस्ते यश्च पवित्र पवित्रस्य अन्तः मध्ये आहितः निहितः तं स्वांशभूतं सोमम् इन्दुः सोमो देवः परि षस्वजे प्रविशति ॥ ॥ ३८ ॥
“Indu has embraced that Soma which is collected in the sewers and has been passed through the filter.”
In close embraces Indu holds Soma when
poured within the jars.
And on the. purifying sieve.
The soma that is in the tubs, that is placed within the filter,
that does the drop embrace.
Den Soma, der in Schalen, ruht, und welcher durch die Seihe rinnt, Nimmt Indu auf in seinen Arm.
Der Soma, der in den Krügen auf die Seihe gesetzt ward, den hält der Saft umfangen.

प्र । वाच॑म् । इन्दुः॑ । इ॒ष्य॒ति॒ । स॒मु॒द्रस्य॑ । अधि॑ । वि॒ष्टपि॑ । जिन्व॑न् । कोश॑म् । म॒धु॒ऽश्चुत॑म् ॥
इन्दुः सोमः मधुश्चुतं मधुनश्च्यावकं कोशं मेघम् । असुरः कोशः' इति मेघनामसु पाठात् । जिन्वन् प्रीणयन् समुद्रस्य अन्तरिक्षस्य अधि विष्टपि विष्टब्धे स्थाने वाचं प्र इष्यति प्रेरयति । पवित्रे पूयमानः शब्दं करोतीत्यर्थः ॥
“Indu emits a sound, abiding in the firmament of the sky, and delighting the nectar-shedding cloud.”
Indu sends forth a voice on high to regions of the sea of air,
Shaking the vase that drops with meath.
The drop sends forth his speech upon the surface of the sea,
quickening the cask dripping with honey.
Und auf des Meeres Fläche hin, lässt Indu schallen seinen Sang, Erregt den methgefüllten Trog.
Der Saft entsendet seine Stimme auf der Höhe des Meeres, indem er die von Süßem überfließende Kufe belebt;
Сок (сомы) подает голос,
(Достигающий) поверхности океана,
Оживляя сосуд, сочащийся сладостью.
नित्य॑स्तोत्रो॒ वन॒स्पति॑र्धी॒नाम॒न्तः स॑ब॒र्दुघ॑: । हि॒न्वा॒नो मानु॑षा यु॒गा ॥
नित्य॑ऽस्तोत्रः । वन॒स्पतिः॑ । धी॒नाम् । अ॒न्तरिति॑ । स॒बः॒ऽदुघः॑ । हि॒न्वा॒नः । मानु॑षा । यु॒गा ॥
नित्यस्तोत्रः संततस्तोत्रः सबर्दुघः अमृतस्य दोग्धा वनस्पतिः वनानां पालयिता सोमः मानुषा मानुषाणि युगा युगानि अहीनैकाहात्मकानि हिन्वानः प्रीणयन् धीनां कर्मणाम् अन्तः मध्ये निवसतीत्यर्थः ॥
“Soma, whose praise is eternal, the lord of forests, the shedder of nectar, and rejoicing the genitive rations of men, (is present) in the midst of our sacred rites.”
The Tree whose praises never fail yields heavenly milk among our hymns,
Urging men's generations on.
The lord of the forest who has praise as his own, yielding the juice of insights within (the filter),
propelling the human generations,
Der Pflanzenfürst, dem Lob gebührt, weilt in der nektarreichen Milch, Den Menschenstämmen holdgesinnt.
Der eigene Loblieder hat, der Baum, der unter Liedern immer melkende, indem er die menschlichen Geschlechter anregt.
Обладающее собственной хвалой лесное дерево,
Чудесно доящееся среди молитв,
Приводящее в действие людские поколения:
अ॒भि प्रि॒या दि॒वस्प॒दा सोमो॑ हिन्वा॒नो अ॑र्षति । विप्र॑स्य॒ धार॑या क॒विः ॥
अ॒भि । प्रि॒या । दि॒वः । प॒दा । सोमः॑ । हि॒न्वा॒नः । अ॒र्ष॒ति॒ । विप्र॑स्य । धार॑या । क॒विः ॥
कविः क्रान्तकर्मा सोमः दिवः अन्तरिक्षात् हिन्वानः प्रेर्यमाणः विप्रस्य मेधाविनः स्वस्य धारया प्रिया प्रियाणि पदा पदानि स्थानानि अभि अर्षति अभिगच्छति ॥
“The sage Soma, urged from heaven, flows in a stream to the beloved abodes of his devout (worshipper). ”
The Wise One, with the Sage's stream, the Soma urged to speed, flows on
To the dear places of the sky.
Being himself propelled, Soma rushes toward the dear tracks of heaven, the sage poet, with the stream of an inspired poet.
Der Soma strömet angespornt zu lieben Himmelsstätten hin, Der Seher mit des Priesters Strom.
Zu den lieben Stätten des Himmels fließt Soma zur Eile getrieben, der Seher im Strome des Redekundigen.

Струится сома, поторапливаемая (жрецами)
Поэт, вместе с потоком вдохновенного (певца).
आ प॑वमान धारय र॒यिं स॒हस्र॑वर्चसम् । अ॒स्मे इ॑न्दो स्वा॒भुव॑म् ॥
आ । प॒व॒मा॒न॒ । धा॒र॒य॒ । र॒यिम् । स॒हस्र॑ऽवर्चसम् । अ॒स्मे इति॑ । इ॒न्दो॒ इति॑ । सु॒ऽआ॒भुव॑म् ॥
हे पवमान इन्दो सोम त्वं सहस्रवर्चसं बहुदीप्तिं स्वाभुवं शोभनभवनं रयिं धनम् अस्मे अस्मासु धारय । प्रक्षिपेत्यर्थः ॥ ॥ ३९ ॥
“Purifying Indu, bestow upon us wealth of a thousand radiances, excelent in its nature.”
O Pavamana, bring us wealth bright with a thousand splendours. Yea.
O Indu, give us ready help.
Self-purifying one, secure wealth of a thousand lusters
close at hand to us, o drop.
Ertheil uns, Indu rieselnder, den Schatz, der tausendfach erglänzt Und schöne Hülfe uns gewährt.
Verleih uns, o Pavamana, einen Schatz von tausendfachem Ansehen, der uns recht diensam ist, o Saft!
О Павамана, надели нас
Богатством, сверкающим на тысячу ладов,
О капля, сильно действующая!
