ऋषिअसितः काश्यपो देवलो वा
देवतापवमानः सोमः

छन्दगायत्री
सोम॑: पुना॒नो अ॑र्षति स॒हस्र॑धारो॒ अत्य॑विः । वा॒योरिन्द्र॑स्य निष्कृ॒तम् ॥
सोमः॑ । पु॒ना॒नः । अ॒र्ष॒ति॒ । स॒हस्र॑ऽधारः । अति॑ऽअविः । वा॒योः । इन्द्र॑स्य । निः॒ऽकृ॒तम् ॥
अयं पुनानः पावकः सोमः अर्षति गच्छति । कीदृशोऽयं पवमानः। सहस्रधारः अपरिमितधारः अत्यविः । अत्राविशब्देन तल्लोमान्युच्यन्ते । अविलोमभिर्निष्पादितं दशापवित्रमित्यर्थः । तदतिक्रम्य गच्छतीत्यत्यविः । किमर्थम् । वायोरिन्द्रस्य च पानायेति शेषः । किं प्रति । निष्कृतम् । निरित्येष समित्येतस्मिन्नर्थे । संस्कृतं पात्रं प्रति ॥
“The purifying Soma, flowing in a thousand streams and passing through the woollen filter, proceeds to the prepared vessel for Vāyu and Indra.”
PASSED through, the fleece in thousand streams the Soma, purified, flows on
To Indra's, Viyu's special place.
As he is being purified, Soma rushes in a thousand streams beyond the sheep [=fleece]
to his encounter with Vāyu and Indra.
Geklärt in tausend Strömen rinnt der Soma durch die Wolle hin Zu Indra-Vaju's Stelldichein.
Soma fließt sich läuternd in tausend Strahlen über die Schafwolle zum Treffort von Vayu und Indra.
Сома течет, очищаясь,
В тысячу струй, (пройдя) сквозь сито,
На свидание с Ваю (и) с Индрой.
पव॑मानमवस्यवो॒ विप्र॑म॒भि प्र गा॑यत । सु॒ष्वा॒णं दे॒ववी॑तये ॥
पव॑मानम् । अ॒व॒स्य॒वः॒ । विप्र॑म् । अ॒भि । प्र । गा॒य॒त॒ । सु॒ष्वा॒णम् । दे॒वऽवी॑तये ॥
हे अवस्यवः रक्षणकामा उद्गात्रादयः यूयं पवमानं शोधकं विप्रं विशेषेन देवानां प्रीणयितारं विप्रवच्छुद्धं वा । अथवा विप्र इति मेधाविनाम। मेधाविनम्। देववीतये देवपानाय सुष्वाणं सूयमानम् अभि प्र गायत आभिमुख्येन प्रकर्षेण स्तुत ॥
“Sing aloud, you who are desirous of (divine) protection to he purifying wise Soma, effused for the beverage of the gods.”
Sing forth, ye men who long for help, to Pavamana, to the Sage,
Effused to entertain the Gods.
You who are seeking help, sing forth to the self-purifying inspired poet, who has been pressed to pursue the gods.
Besingt, o hülfsbegierige, den rieselnden, begeisterten, Gepressten zu dem Göttermahl.
Auf den Pavamana singet, ihr Gunstsuchenden, auf den Redekundigen, der zur Götterladung ausgepreßt ist!

पव॑न्ते । वाज॑ऽसातये । सोमाः॑ । स॒हस्र॑ऽपाजसः । गृ॒णा॒नाः । दे॒वऽवी॑तये ॥
पवन्ते क्षरन्ति सोमाः । किमर्थम् । वाजसातये अन्नस्य लाभाय । कीदृशाः । सहस्रपाजसः बहुबलाः । पातॄणां बलप्रदा इत्यर्थः । गृणानाः । कर्मणि कर्तृप्रत्ययः । स्तूयमानाः । पुनः किमर्थम् । देववीतये । देवानां वीतिर्गतिः प्राप्तिर्भक्षणं वा यस्मिन् स देववीतिर्यज्ञः । तदर्थम् । यज्ञसिद्धिः साक्षात् प्रयोजनं तद्द्वारा अन्नलाभ इत्यर्थः ॥
“The Soma juices flow for the attainment of food, giving abundance of strength and hymned (to become) the beverage of the gods.”
The Soma-drops with thousand powers are purified for victory,
Hymned to become the feast of Gods.
The thousand-faceted soma juices purify themselves to win the prize, being hymned to pursue the gods.
Die Soma's, tausendfach an Glanz, sie rieseln hin zum Opferwerk, Gepriesen zu dem Göttermahl.
Es läutern sich die Somasäfte, um den Siegerpreis zu gewinnen, in tausend Formen, zur Götterladung gepriesen.
Очищаются для захвата добычи
Струи сомы с тысячей форм,
Воспеваемые для приглашения богов.
उ॒त नो॒ वाज॑सातये॒ पव॑स्व बृह॒तीरिष॑: । द्यु॒मदि॑न्दो सु॒वीर्य॑म् ॥
उ॒त । नः॒ । वाज॑ऽसातये । पव॑स्व । बृ॒ह॒तीः । इषः॑ । द्यु॒ऽमत् । इ॒न्दो॒ इति॑ । सु॒ऽवीर्य॑म् ॥
उत अपि च नः अस्माकं वाजसातये अन्नलाभाय हे इन्दो सोम बृहतीरिषः महतीः रसधाराः द्युमत् दीप्तिमत् सुवीर्यं शोभनसामर्थ्यं च पवस्व क्षर । शोभनसामर्थ्योपेता धाराः पवस्वेत्यर्थः । अथवा । वाजसातये संग्रामाय बृहतीरिषो द्युमत् सुवीर्यं संपादयितुं पवस्वेति योज्यम् ॥
“You, Indu, for our attainment of food pour forth abundant streams, and splendid and excellent vigour.”
Yea, as thou flowest bring great store of food that we may win the spoil
Indu, bring splendid manly might.
And for us to win the prize, by purifying yourself (bring) lofty
refreshments
and a heaven-bright abundance of heroes, o drop.
Und riesle uns zum Opferwerk, o Indu, reiche Tränke zu Und glanzbegabte Heldenmacht.
Und läutere uns große Labe zu, um den Siegerpreis zu gewinnen, glänzende Meisterschaft, o Saft!
А также для захвата добычи нам
Очищайся, (принося) высокие услады,
Блистательное, о капля, обилие сыновей!
ते न॑: सह॒स्रिणं॑ र॒यिं पव॑न्ता॒मा सु॒वीर्य॑म् । सु॒वा॒ना दे॒वास॒ इन्द॑वः ॥
ते । नः॒ । स॒ह॒स्रिण॑म् । र॒यिम् । पव॑न्ताम् । आ । सु॒ऽवीर्य॑म् । सु॒वा॒नाः । दे॒वासः॑ । इन्द॑वः ॥
ते इन्दवः सोमाः नः अस्माकं सहस्रिणं सहस्रसंख्योपेतं रयिं धनं सुवीर्यं च आ पवन्ताम् । कीदृशास्ते । सुवानाः सूयमानाः देवासः द्योतनादिगुणयुक्ताः ॥ ॥ १ ॥
“May those divine libations, when effused, bring to us thousandfold wealth and excellent vigour.”
May they in flowing give us wealth in thousands, and heroic power,-
These Godlike Soma-drops effused.
By purifying themselves, let them bring thousandfold wealth and an abundance of heroes for us—
the divine drops being pressed.
Die Götter Indu's mögen uns herrieseln tausendfaches Gut, Die ausgepressten, Heldenmacht.
Sie sollen uns zu tausendfältigem Reichtum und zur Meisterschaft läutern, wenn sie ausgepreßt werden, die göttlichen Säfte!
Пусть они очищаются, (принося) нам
Тысячное богатство, обилие сыновей,
Когда выжаты (эти) божественные капли!
अत्या॑ हिया॒ना न हे॒तृभि॒रसृ॑ग्रं॒ वाज॑सातये । वि वार॒मव्य॑मा॒शव॑: ॥
अत्याः॑ । हि॒या॒नाः । न । हे॒तृऽभिः॑ । असृ॑ग्रम् । वाज॑ऽसातये । वि । वार॑म् । अव्य॑म् । आ॒शवः॑ ॥
वाजसातये संग्रामाय हियानाः प्रेर्यमाणाः अस्याः न अश्वा इव ते यथा प्रेरकैः प्रेर्यमाणाः संग्रामाय शीघ्रं धावन्ति तद्वत् हेतृभिः प्रेरकैः प्रेर्यमाणाः आशवः शीघ्रगामिनः सोमाः वाजसातये अन्नलाभाय अव्यं वारं दशापवित्रं वि असृग्रं व्यतिसृज्यन्ते ॥
“Like horses urged to battle by their drivers, the swift-flowing juices have (flown) through the woollen fleece.”
Like coursers by their drivers urged, they were poured forth, for victory,
Swift through the woollen straining-cloth.
Like racehorses being driven on by their drivers, they have surged to win the prize—
swift across the sheep’s fleece.
Wie Rosse, die der Lenker spornt, ergossen sie zum Opfer sich, Die raschen durch des Schafes Fell.
Wie Rosse, die von ihren Treibern angetrieben werden, sind die Renner, um den Preis zu gewinnen, durch das Schafhaar geschossen.
Словно скакуны, погоняемые погонщиками,
Они устремились к захвату доычи
Через сито из овечьей шерсти, (эти) быстрые (кони).
वा॒श्रा अ॑र्ष॒न्तीन्द॑वो॒ऽभि व॒त्सं न धे॒नव॑: । द॒ध॒न्वि॒रे गभ॑स्त्योः ॥
वा॒श्राः । अ॒र्ष॒न्ति॒ । इन्द॑वः । अ॒भि । व॒त्सम् । न । धे॒नवः॑ । द॒ध॒न्वि॒रे । गभ॑स्त्योः ॥
वाश्राः शब्दयन्तः इन्दवः सोमाः अभि अर्षन्ति अभिगच्छन्ति पात्रं प्रति वाश्राः शब्दकारिण्यः धेनवः न । ता यथा शब्दयन्त्यः वत्सं प्रत्यागच्छन्ति तद्वत् । त एव गभस्त्योः बाह्वोः दधन्विरे ध्रियन्ते च ॥
“Making a loud noise, the libations flow (to the vessel) like cows lowing to their calves; they are held in the arms (of the priests).”
Noisily flow the Soma-drops, like milch-kine lowing to their calves:
They have run forth from both the hands.
Bellowing like cows to their calf, the drops rush.
They have run between the hands (of the priest).
Die Indu's laufen rauschend hin wie Mutterkühe zu dem Kalb, Aus beiden Armen, strömen sie.
Brüllend wie die Kühe zu ihrem Kalbe fließen die Säfte; sie haben sich unter den Händen des Pressenden in Lauf gesetzt.
Мыча, словно дойные коровы теленку,
Текут соки сомы.
Они помчались из-под рук (жреца).
जुष्ट॒ इन्द्रा॑य मत्स॒रः पव॑मान॒ कनि॑क्रदत् । विश्वा॒ अप॒ द्विषो॑ जहि ॥
जुष्टः॑ । इन्द्रा॑य । म॒त्स॒रः । पव॑मान । कनि॑क्रदत् । विश्वाः॑ । अप॑ । द्विषः॑ । ज॒हि॒ ॥
इन्द्राय जुष्टः प्रियः पर्याप्तः मत्सरः सोमो भवतीति शेषः। 'मत्सरः सोमो मन्दतेस्तृप्तिकर्मणः ' (निरु. २.५) इति निरुक्तम् । हे पवमान त्वं कनिक्रदत् शब्दयन् विश्वाः द्विषः सर्वानस्माकं द्वेष्टॄन् अप जहि ॥
“Acceptable and giving delight to Indra, pure (Soma), do you, as you utter a sound, destroy all our enemies.”
As Gladdener whom Indra loves, O Pavamana, with a roar
Drive all our enemies away.
Pleasing to Indra, exhilarating, constantly roaring—o self-purifying one, strike away all hatreds.

Berauschend und dem Indra lieb, laut wiehernd schlag', o rieselnder, Die Feinde alle weit hinweg.
Dem Indra willkommen, berauschend, o Pavamana, brüllend verjage alle Feinde!
Доставляющий наслаждение Индре, пьянящий,
О Павамана, громко ревущий,
Разбей всех врагов!
अ॒प॒घ्नन्तो॒ अरा॑व्ण॒: पव॑मानाः स्व॒र्दृश॑: । योना॑वृ॒तस्य॑ सीदत ॥
अ॒प॒ऽघ्नन्तः॑ । अरा॑व्णः । पव॑मानाः । स्वः॒ऽदृशः॑ । योनौ॑ । ऋ॒तस्य॑ । सी॒द॒त्स॒ ॥
हे पवमानाः अराव्णः अदानानयजमानान् अपघ्न्तः हिंसन्तः स्वर्दृशः सर्वत्र द्रष्टारश्च यूयम् ऋतस्य योनौ यज्ञस्य स्थाने सीदत । अथवा । सोमपानार्थमुक्तलक्षणा देवा ऋतस्य योनौ सीदतेति योज्यम् ॥ ॥ २ ॥
“Pure (libations), beholding all things and destroying those who worship not, sit down in the plural ce of sacrifice.”
O Pavamamas, driving off the godless, looking on the light,
Sit in the place of sacrifice.
Striking away the non-givers, purifying yourselves, looking like the sun, sit on the womb of truth.

Fortschlagend die, die gottlos sind, ihr sonnengleichen, rieselnden, Im Schooss des Rechtes setzet euch.
Die Mißgünstigen verjagend setzet auch, ihr Pavamanas mit dem Sonnenauge, in die Wiege des rechten Brauches!

О Павамана, видящие солнце,
Усаживайтесь на лоно закона!
