ऋषिअसितः काश्यपो देवलो वा
देवतापवमानः सोमः

छन्दगायत्री
परि॒ प्रासि॑ष्यदत्क॒विः सिन्धो॑रू॒र्मावधि॑ श्रि॒तः । का॒रं बिभ्र॑त्पुरु॒स्पृह॑म् ॥
परि॑ । प्र । अ॒सि॒स्य॒द॒त् । क॒विः । सिन्धोः॑ । ऊ॒र्मौ । अधि॑ । श्रि॒तः । का॒रम् । बिभ्र॑त् । पु॒रु॒ऽस्पृह॑म् ॥
परि प्रासिष्यदत् परिप्रस्यन्दते कविः मेधावी सोमः सिन्धोरूर्मौ तरङ्गे वस्तीवर्युदकरसे अधि श्रितः आश्रितः । पुरुस्पृहं बहुभिः स्पृहणीयं कारं शब्दं बिभ्रत् धारयन् परिस्यन्दत इति संबन्धः ॥
“The wise (Soma) flows widely round, be taking itself to the waves of the river, and uttering a sound desired by many.”
REPOSING on the river's wave the Sage hath widely flowed around,
Bearing the hymn which many love.
The poet flowed around and forth, set upon the swell of the river,
bringing the decisive action for which many are eager.
Der Seher strömte rings hervor, sich stützend auf des Stromes Flut, Erhebend viel begehrten Sang.
Der Seher hat seinen Umlauf gemacht, auf die Woge des Stroms gestützt, den vielbegehrten Kampfpreis davontragend.

Покоясь на волне реки
Неся многожеланное воздействие.
गि॒रा यदी॒ सब॑न्धव॒: पञ्च॒ व्राता॑ अप॒स्यव॑: । प॒रि॒ष्कृ॒ण्वन्ति॑ धर्ण॒सिम् ॥
गि॒रा । यदि॑ । सऽब॑न्धवः । पञ्च॑ । व्राताः॑ । अ॒प॒स्यवः॑ । प॒रि॒ऽकृ॒ण्वन्ति॑ । ध॒र्ण॒सिम् ॥
सबन्धवः समानबन्धनाः पञ्च व्राताः पञ्च जना मनुष्या यजमानाः अपस्यवः कर्मेच्छवः यद्यदा ईमेनं धर्णसिं धारकं सोमं गिरा स्तुत्या परिष्कृण्वन्ति अलंकुर्वन्ति । अस्योत्तरत्रान्वयः ॥
“When the five kindred sacrificing races, desirous of accomplishing pious rites, honour the sustaining (Soma) with their praise.”
When the Five kindred Companies, active in duty, with the song
Establish him, the Powerful,
When the troops of five kinsmen [=hands], eager to work,
prepare the steadfast one with a hymn—
Wenn die verwandten thätigen fünf Stämme mit dem Lobgesang Ausschmücken den gewaltigen.
Wenn die versippten fleißigen fünf Verbände den Standfesten unter Loblied zurechtmachen,

आद॑स्य शु॒ष्मिणो॒ रसे॒ विश्वे॑ दे॒वा अ॑मत्सत । यदी॒ गोभि॑र्वसा॒यते॑ ॥
आत् । अ॒स्य॒ । शु॒ष्मिणः॑ । रसे॑ । विश्वे॑ । दे॒वाः । अ॒म॒त्स॒त॒ । यदि॑ । गोभिः॑ । व॒सा॒यते॑ ॥
आत् परिष्करणानन्तरमेव शुष्मिणः बलवतः अस्य सोमस्य रसे विश्वे देवाः अमत्सत अमाद्यन्त। यदि यदा गोभिः गोविकारैः । विकारे प्रकृतिशब्दः । क्षीरादिभिः । वसायते आच्छाद्यते ॥
“Then all the gods rejoice in the juice of this powerful (libation), when it is enveloped with milk and curds.”
Then in his juice whose strength is great, have all the Gods rejoiced themselves,
When he hath clothed him in the milk.
After that, all the gods found exhilaration in the juice of him, the tempestuous one—
when he clothes himself with cows.
Dann haben an des starken Saft sich alle Götter stets berauscht, Wenn er mit Milch umkleidet ist.
Dann haben sich an dieses Feurigen Saft alle Götter berauscht, wenn er sich in Milch einhüllt.
То от его пламенного сока
Опьянели Все-Боги,
Когда он одевается в коровье молоко.
नि॒रि॒णा॒नो वि धा॑वति॒ जह॒च्छर्या॑णि॒ तान्वा॑ । अत्रा॒ सं जि॑घ्नते यु॒जा ॥
नि॒ऽरि॒णा॒नः । वि । धा॒व॒ति॒ । जह॑त् । शर्या॑णि । तान्वा॑ । अत्र॑ । सम् । जि॒घ्र॒ते॒ । यु॒जा ॥
अयं सोमः निरिणानः दशापवित्रादधो गच्छन् वि धावति विविधं धावति - - - - यदा तान्वा । तनु देशापवित्रवस्त्रम् । तत्संबन्धीनि शर्याणि द्वाराणि जहत् अधः सरति । अत्र अस्मिन् यज्ञे युजा सखिभूतेनेन्द्रेण सह सं जिघ्नते संगतो भवति । वस्त्रसुषिराद्विनिर्गत्य दशापवित्रादधः सत् पात्रं विविधं गच्छन् होमद्वारेणेन्द्रेण संगतो भवतीत्यर्थः ॥
“Descending from the filters (into the vessel), and passing through the cloth's interstices, it becomes united in this (sacrifice) with its friend (Indra).”
Freeing himself he flows away, leaving his body's severed limbs,
And meets his own Companion here.
Spilling over, he runs out, leaving behind the stems that belong to his body.
In this place here he slams together with his yokemate [=Indra].
Er strömet niederrinnend ab, wenn er das Rohrgeflecht verlässt, Dann trifft er mit dem Freunde sich,
Er läuft durch die Seihe, indem er sich enthüllt und die an seinem Leibe anhaftenden Stacheln zurückläßt. Dann schließt er sich mit seinem Verbündeten zusammen;
Стекая, он мчится сквозь (сито),
Оставляя волокна (своего) тела.
Тут он приобщается к (своему) союзнику.
न॒प्तीभि॒र्यो वि॒वस्व॑तः शु॒भ्रो न मा॑मृ॒जे युवा॑ । गाः कृ॑ण्वा॒नो न नि॒र्णिज॑म् ॥
न॒प्तीभिः॑ । यः । वि॒वस्व॑तः । शु॒भ्रः । न । म॒मृ॒जे । युवा॑ । गाः । कृ॒ण्वा॒नः । न । निः॒ऽनिज॑म् ॥
यः सोमः विवस्वतः परिचरणवतो यजमानस्य नप्तीभिः पौत्रस्थानीयाभिः । तस्य हस्तः पुत्रोऽङ्गुलयः पौत्रस्थानीया इत्यभिप्रायः। मामृजे मृज्यते शुभ्रो न दीप्तोऽश्व: युवा इव । यथाप्रवृद्धोऽश्वो मृज्यते स्वपरिचारकैस्तद्वत् स एव युवा मिश्रणशीलः सोमः निर्णिजम्। निर्णिक्' इति रूपनाम । स्वकीयं रूपं गाः न कृण्वानः गोविकारांश्च कुर्वाणो भवतीति शेषः ॥ ॥ ३ ॥
“He who is rubbed down by the grandchildren of the sacrificer like a handsome young (horse), and renders his form like the produce of the kine.”
He by the daughters of the priest, like a fair youth, hath been adorned,
Making the milk, as 'twere, his robe.
He who, like a handsome youth, has been groomed by the
granddaughters of Vivasvant [=fingers],
making the cows like a garment,
Der durch Vivasvats Töchter sich gleich einem schönen Jüngling schmückt, Die Milch umnehmend wie ein Kleid.
Der von den Enkelinnen des Vivasvat wie ein strahlender Jüngling ausgeputzt wird, wenn er die Kuhmilch gleichsam zu seinem Festgewand macht.
Кто, словно сверкающий юноша.
Начищается внучками Вивасвата,
Превращая коровье (молоко) в (свой) праздничный наряд.
अति॑ श्रि॒ती ति॑र॒श्चता॑ ग॒व्या जि॑गा॒त्यण्व्या॑ । व॒ग्नुमि॑यर्ति॒ यं वि॒दे ॥
अति॑ । श्रि॒ती । ति॒र॒श्चता॑ । ग॒व्या । जि॒गा॒ति॒ । अण्व्या॑ । व॒ग्नुम् । इ॒य॒र्ति॒ । यम् । वि॒दे ॥
अण्व्या अङ्गुल्याभिषूयमाणः सोमः गव्या गव्यानि श्रिती श्रित्यै श्रयणार्थं तिरश्चता तिरश्चीनम् अति जिगाति । अंशुमतिक्रम्य गच्छति । तथाङ्गुल्याभिषूयमाणः वग्नुं शब्दम् इयर्ति प्रेरयति ॥
“Expressed by the finger, he proceeds obliquely to the produce of the cow to mix with it; it utters a sound which (the worshipper) recognizes.”
O'er the fine fingers, through desire of milk, in winding course he goes,
And utters voice which he hath found.
With a yen for cows, he goes crossways along the fine prop [=fleece]. He raises the call that he knows as his own.
Sich schmiegend geht er quer hindurch begierig durch das feine Sieb, Erregend den gewohnten Schall.
Er geht quer hindurch durch den feinsten Zugang, nach der Kuhmilch verlangend. Er erhebt den Ton, auf den er sich versteht.
Благодаря тонкой опоре (сита)
Этот сома проходит наискось насквозь, жаждя коров.
Он поднимает шум, который (хорошо) известен.
अ॒भि क्षिप॒: सम॑ग्मत म॒र्जय॑न्तीरि॒षस्पति॑म् । पृ॒ष्ठा गृ॑भ्णत वा॒जिन॑: ॥
अ॒भि । क्षिपः॑ । सम् । अ॒ग्म॒त॒ । म॒र्जय॑न्तीः । इ॒षः । पति॑म् । पृ॒ष्ठा । गृ॒भ्ण॒त॒ । वा॒जिनः॑ ॥
क्षिपः अङ्गुलयः मर्जयन्तीः अभिमृशन्त्यः इषस्पतिम् अन्नानां स्वामिनं सोमम् अभि समग्मत अभिसंगच्छन्ते । संगत्य च वाजिनः बलवतः सोमस्य पृष्ठा पृष्ठानि गृभ्णत गृह्णन्त्यभिषवाङगुलयः ॥
“The fingers combine expressing the lord of food (i.e., Soma), and they grasp the back of the vigorous (Soma).”
The nimble fingers have approached, adorning him the Lord of Strength:
They grasp the vigorous Courser's back.
The fingers have come together to him, grooming the lord of
refreshment.
They have grasped the back of the prizewinning horse.
Es nahten sich die Finger ihm, den Herrn des Trankes reinigend, Des Rosses Rücken fassten sie.
Die Finger vereinigten sich, die den Herrn der Labe putzen; sie fassen des Preisrenners Rücken.
Соединились пальцы (жреца),
Начищающие господина услад.
Они хватают за спины завоевателя наград.
परि॑ दि॒व्यानि॒ मर्मृ॑श॒द्विश्वा॑नि सोम॒ पार्थि॑वा । वसू॑नि याह्यस्म॒युः ॥
परि॑ । दि॒व्यानि॑ । मर्मृ॑शत् । विश्वा॑नि । सो॒म॒ । पार्थि॑वा । वसू॑नि । या॒हि॒ । अ॒स्म॒ऽयुः ॥
हे सोम दिव्यानि पार्थिवानि च विश्वानि सर्वाणि वसूनि धनानि परि मर्मृशत् परिमृशन् परिगृह्णन् अस्मयुः अस्मान् कामयमानः याहि आगच्छ। एवमभिषुण्वन् रसं संबोध्य ब्रूते ॥ ॥ ४ ॥
“Soma, who hols all the treasures of heaven and earth, come favourably disposed to us.”
Comprising all the treasures that are in the heavens and on the earth,
Come, Soma, as our faithful Friend.
Ever embracing all good things, heavenly and earthly, o Soma,
seeking us, make your journey.

Umfassend alles Himmelsgut und, Soma, alles irdische, Uns Huld erweisend komme her.
Alle himmlischen und irdischen Schätze hole ein, sie erfassend, o Soma, uns zugetan!
Мощно охватывая все
Блага, небесные (и) земные,
Продвигайся (вперед), о сома, преданный нам!
