ऋषिअसितः काश्यपो देवलो वा
देवतापवमानः सोमः

छन्दगायत्री
प्र ते॑ सो॒तार॑ ओ॒ण्यो॒३॒॑ रसं॒ मदा॑य॒ घृष्व॑ये । सर्गो॒ न त॒क्त्येत॑शः ॥
प्र । ते॒ । सो॒तारः॑ । ओ॒ण्योः॑ । रस॑म् । मदा॑य । घृष्व॑ये । सर्गः॑ । न । त॒क्ति॒ । एत॑शः ॥
हे सोम ते तव रसं सोतारः सोमाभिषवकर्तारः ओण्योः रसम् । लुप्तोपममेतत् । द्यावापृथिव्यो रसमुदकमिव । अथवौण्योर्द्यावापृथिव्योर्मध्ये तयोः संबन्धिनं वा रसस् । प्र स्रावयन्तीति शेषः । किमर्थम् । घृष्वये शत्रुघर्षणशीलाय’ मदाय इन्द्रस्य मदाय । अभिषवजनितः सोमः सर्गः सृष्टः एतशः न अश्व इव तक्ति गच्छति पात्रं प्रति ॥
“They who express you, the juice of heaven and earth do it for the foe-destroying exhilaration (of Indra); your flow rushes as a swift horse.”
THE pressers from the Soma-press send forth thy juice for rapturous joy
The speckled sap runs like a flood.
The pressers pro(pel) your sap in their arms, for ardent exhilaration. Etaśa charges like a surge (of waters).
In beide Schalen sandten dir die Presser Saft zum muntern Rausch; Das Ross schiesst wie ein Strom dahin.
Deinen Saft lassen die Pressenden unter ihren Armen weiter laufen zu fröhlichem Rausche: Wie ein losgelassenes Rennen schießt Etasa dahin.
Выжиматели вы(пускают течь) из из-под рук твой
Сок для радостного опьянения.
Эташа устремился, как выстрел.
क्रत्वा॒ दक्ष॑स्य र॒थ्य॑म॒पो वसा॑न॒मन्ध॑सा । गो॒षामण्वे॑षु सश्चिम ॥
क्रत्वा॑ । दक्ष॑स्य । र॒थ्य॑म् । अ॒पः । वसा॑नम् । अन्ध॑सा । गो॒ऽसाम् । अण्वे॑षु । स॒श्चि॒म॒ ॥
वयमभिषोतारः दक्षस्य बलस्य रथ्यं नेतारम् अपः उदकानि रसान् वसानम् आच्छादयन्तम् अन्धसा श्रयणान्नेन सहितं गोषां गवां सोतारमेवमुक्तलक्षणं सोमं क्रत्वा कर्मणा अण्वेषु अङ्गुलीषु सश्चिम संयोजयामः ॥
“In pious rite by our fingers we mix with the milk (the Soma), the bringer of strength, the sender of kine, who envelopes the water.”
With strength we follow through the sieve him who brings might and wins the kine,
Enrobed in water with his juice.
With resolve we accompany the charioteer of skill, who clothes himself in waters along with his stalk,
the winner of cows, among the fine (tufts of fleece).
Der weise lenkt der Kraft Gefährt, und seinen Saft in Wasser hüllt, Den Spender führen wir ins Sieb.
Mit der Überlegung des Verstandes haben wir den Wagenfahrer begleitet, der sich mit seinem Saft in die Wasser hüllt und in der Seihe die Kuhmilch gewinnt.
С пониманием силы действия мы следовали
За колесничим, рядящимся в воды
Со (своим) соком, добывающим коров в мелком (сите).
अन॑प्तम॒प्सु दु॒ष्टरं॒ सोमं॑ प॒वित्र॒ आ सृ॑ज । पु॒नी॒हीन्द्रा॑य॒ पात॑वे ॥
अन॑प्तम् । अ॒प्ऽसु । दु॒स्तर॑म् । सोम॑म् । प॒वित्रे॑ । आ । सृ॒ज॒ । पु॒नी॒हि । इन्द्रा॑य । पात॑वे ॥
अनप्तं शत्रुभिरनाप्तम् अप्सु आन्तरिक्ष्यासु । वर्तमानमिति शेषः। दुष्टरम् अन्यैरनभिभाव्यम् । न हि सोमं कश्चिदप्यतितरति । ईदृशं सोमं पवित्रे दशापवित्रे आ सृज प्रक्षिप हे अध्वर्यो । तत्रोच्यते । इन्द्राय इन्द्रस्य पातवे पातुं पुनीहि ॥
“Cast into the filter the unassailable invincible (Soma), abiding in the waters (of the firmament) purify it for the drinking of Indra.”
Pour on the sieve the Soma, ne'er subdued in waters, waterless,
And make it pure for Indra's drink.
Send the soma surging into the filter, the one difficult to overtake in the waters (even) without the granddaughters(’ preparation) [?].
Purify him for Indra to drink.
Den trocknen, der in Wassern siegt, den Soma giesse in das Sieb, Dem Indra läutre ihn zum Trunk.
Den nicht verwässerten, im Wasser kaum zu überwindenden Soma laß auf die Seihe laufen; läutere ihn für Indra zum Trunke!

Сому вылей в цедилку:
Очисти Индре для питья!

प्र । पु॒ना॒नस्य॑ । चेत॑सा । सोमः॑ । प॒वित्रे॑ । अ॒र्ष॒ति॒ । क्रत्वा॑ । स॒धऽस्थ॑म् । आ । अ॒स॒द॒त् ॥
चेतसा स्तुत्या पुनानस्य पूयमानस्यांशीभूतः सोमः पवित्रे दशापवित्रे अर्षति गच्छति । अथ पश्चात् क्रत्वा कर्मणा प्रज्ञानेन वा सधस्थं सहस्थानं द्रोणकलशे आसदत् आसीदति ॥
“The Soma of him who is purified by worship flows upon the filter and settles in the plural ce common with the ceremony.”
Moved by the purifier's thought, the Soma flows into the sieve:
By wisdom it hath gained its home.
With attention Soma rushes forth into the filter of the one being purified; with resolve he has taken his seat.
Erglänzend als sich läutender ergiesst der Soma sich ins Sieb, Und setzt sich kräftig auf den Sitz.
Durch die Einsicht des sich Läuternden rinnt Soma auf die Seihe; mit Überlegung hat er sich auf seinen Platz gesetzt.
С сознанием очищающегося
Течет сома вперед в цедилку.
С пониманием он уселся на (свое) место.
प्र त्वा॒ नमो॑भि॒रिन्द॑व॒ इन्द्र॒ सोमा॑ असृक्षत । म॒हे भरा॑य का॒रिण॑: ॥
प्र । त्वा॒ । नमः॑ऽभिः । इन्द॑वः । इन्द्र॑ । सोमाः॑ । अ॒सृ॒क्ष॒त॒ । म॒हे । भरा॑य । का॒रिणः॑ ॥
हे इन्द्र त्वा त्वां नमोभिः नमस्कारोपलक्षितैः स्तोत्रैरथवान्नैः सह इन्दवः सोमाः प्र असृक्षत प्राप्नुवन्ति । किमर्थम् । महे महते भराय संग्रामाय । कीदृशाः । कारिणः बलकरणशीलाः ॥
“The Soma juices flow to you, Indra, with praises, giving you vigour for the great conflict.”
With humble homage, Indra, have the Soma-drops flowed forth to thee,
Contending for the glorious prize.
Forth to you, Indra, the drops, the soma juices, have surged with
homage—
for the great taking of the decisive victor.
Zu dir ergossen demuthsvoll die Somatropfen, Indra, sich, die Sänger zu erhabnem Preis.
Die Somasäfte haben sich unter Verbeugung zu dir, Indra, in Lauf gesetzt, um als Sieger großen Gewinn davonzutragen.
С поклонениями были выпущены к тебе
Вперед капли, соки сомы, о Индра,
Приносящие великую ставку (в игре).
पु॒ना॒नो रू॒पे अ॒व्यये॒ विश्वा॒ अर्ष॑न्न॒भि श्रिय॑: । शूरो॒ न गोषु॑ तिष्ठति ॥
पु॒ना॒नः । रू॒पे । अ॒व्यव्ये॑ । विश्वाः॑ । अर्ष॑न् । अ॒भि । श्रियः॑ । शूरः॑ । न । गोषु॑ । ति॒ष्ठ॒ति॒ ॥
अव्यये अविमये रूपे रूप्यमाणे वस्त्रे पुनानः पूयमानः विश्वाः सर्वाः श्रियः शोभाः अभि अर्षन् अभिगच्छन् गोषु निमित्तासु शूरो न शूर इव स यथा संग्रामे तिष्ठति तद्वदसौ तिष्ठति पात्रे ॥
“Purified in his woollen robe, and attaining all honours he stands as a hero amidst the kine.”
Purified in his fleecy garb, attaining every beauty, he
Stands, hero-like, amid the kine.
Being purified within the sheep’s shape, rushing toward all that is glorious, like a champion he stands among the cattle.
Geklärt im wollnen Schmuckgewand, ergiessend aller Schönheit Glanz, Steht bei den Kühen er als Held.
In der Schafhülle sich läuternd, auf alle Herrlichkeiten zufließend hält er Stand wie der Tapfere im Kampf um die Kühe.
Очищаясь в овечьем облике,
Струясь ко всем почестям,
Он находится, как герой, среди коров.
दि॒वो न सानु॑ पि॒प्युषी॒ धारा॑ सु॒तस्य॑ वे॒धस॑: । वृथा॑ प॒वित्रे॑ अर्षति ॥
दि॒वः । न । सानु॑ । पि॒प्युषी॑ । धारा॑ । सु॒तस्य॑ । वे॒धसः॑ । वृथा॑ । प॒वित्रे॑ अ॒र्ष॒ति॒ ॥
दिवो न द्युलोकादन्तरिक्षादिव सानु समुच्छ्रितमुदकं तद्यथाधो निपतति तद्वत् वेधसः विधातुर्बलस्य कर्तुः सुतस्य अभिषुतस्य सोमस्य पिप्युषी आप्याययन्ती धारा वृथा अनायासेनैव पवित्रे दशापवित्रे अर्षति गच्छति ॥
“As the lofty rain from heaven, the nutritious strream of the invogorating Soma falls easily upon the straining cloth.”
Swelling, as 'twere, to heights of heaven, the stream of the creative juice
Falls lightly on the cleansing sieve.
Having swelled like the back of heaven, the stream of the pressed ritual adept
rushes at will into the filter.
Der Strom des schöpferischen Tranks, der wie des Himmels Rücken schwillt, Ergiesst sich lustig in das Sieb.
Überquellend wie des Himmels Rücken rinnt der Strahl des ausgepreßten Meisters nach Belieben auf die Seihe.
Набухши, как вершина неба,
Поток выжатого сока (этого) устроителя обряда
Охотно течет в цедилку.
त्वं सो॑म विप॒श्चितं॒ तना॑ पुना॒न आ॒युषु॑ । अव्यो॒ वारं॒ वि धा॑वसि ॥
त्वम् । सो॒म॒ । विपः॒ऽचित॑म् । तना॑ । पु॒ना॒नः । आ॒युषु॑ । अव्यः॑ । वार॑म् । वि । धा॒व॒सि॒ ॥
हे सोम त्वं विपश्चितं स्तोतारम् आयुषु मनुष्येषु' मध्ये रक्षसि । अथवा। तृतीयार्थे द्वितीया । विपश्चिताध्वर्युणा । तना वस्त्रेण पुनानः पूयमानः। अथवा। विपश्चितमिन्द्रं प्रीणयितुं तना पुनानः सन् । अव्यो वारम् अवेर्वालं वि धावसि विविधं गच्छसि ॥ ॥ ६ ॥
“You, Soma, (process) the worshipper among men, and purified by the cloth you wander through the woollen filter.”
Thus, Soma, purifying himwho knoweth song mid living men,
Thou wanderest through the cloth of wool.
You, Soma, (sending forth speech) attentive to poetic inspiration, being purified in your full measure among the Āyus,
run through the sheep’s fleece.
Gereinigt, Soma, fort und fort bei Menschen strömst dem weisen Gott Du durch des Widders Wolle zu.
Indem du, Soma, die wortkundige Rede unter den Ayu´s weckst, wenn du dich in einem Zuge läuterst, fließest du durch das Schafhaar.
Ты, о сома, (вызываешь) вдохновенную (речь),
Непрерывно очищаясь среди Аю,
Когда ты течешь через сито из овечьей щерсти.
