ऋषिअसितः काश्यपो देवलो वा
देवतापवमानः सोमः

छन्दगायत्री
यत्सो॑म चि॒त्रमु॒क्थ्यं॑ दि॒व्यं पार्थि॑वं॒ वसु॑ । तन्न॑: पुना॒न आ भ॑र ॥
यत् । सो॒म॒ । चि॒त्रम् । उ॒क्थ्य॑म् । दि॒व्यम् । पार्थि॑वम् । वसु॑ । तत् । नः॒ । पु॒न॒नः । आ । भ॒र॒ ॥
हे सोम यत् चित्रं चायनीयम् उक्थ्यं स्तुत्यं दिव्यं दिवि भवं पार्थिवं पृथिवीसंबद्धं च वसु धनमस्ति तत् नः अस्मभ्यं पुनानः पूयमानः सन् आ भर आहर ॥
“Whatever wonderful glorious wealth there be in heaven or in earth, do you, Soma, being purified, bring it to us.”
O SOMA, being purified bring us the wondrous treasure, meet
For lauds, that is in earth and heaven.
O Soma, what bright good thing, heavenly or earthly, is worthy of hymns, bring that here to us as you are being purified.
Welch reiches preisenswerthes Gut, o Soma, Erd' und Himmel birgt, Das bring uns her, geläuterter!
Das wundersame, preiswürdige himmlische und irdische Gut, das bring uns, Soma, wenn du dich läuterst herbei!
Какое, о сома, (есть) яркое, достойное гимна
Небесное (или) земное добро,
Его нам принеси, очищаясь!
यु॒वं हि स्थः स्व॑र्पती॒ इन्द्र॑श्च सोम॒ गोप॑ती । ई॒शा॒ना पि॑प्यतं॒ धिय॑: ॥
यु॒वम् । हि । स्थः । स्व॑र्पती॒ इति॒ स्वः॑ऽपती । इन्द्रः॑ । च॒ । सो॒म॒ । गोप॑ती॒ इति॒ गोऽप॑ती । ई॒शा॒ना पि॑प्यत॒न् धियः॑ ॥
हे सोम त्वम् इन्द्रश्च युवं हि युवां खलु स्वर्पती सर्वस्य स्वामिनौ स्थः भवथः । तथा गोपती गवां पालकौ ईशाना ईश्वरौ सन्तौ धियः अस्मदीयानि कर्माणि पिप्यतं प्याययतम् ॥
“You, Soma and Indra, are the lords of all the lords of cattle, do you, the rulers, prosper our rites.”
For ye Twain, Indra, Soma, are Lords of the light, Lords of the kine:
Great Rulers, prosper ye our songs.
For you two, o Soma, you and Indra, are lords of the sun, lords of cattle. Showing your mastery, make our insights swell.
Denn ihr, o Indra, Soma, seid des Himmels und der Heerden Herrn, Als Herrscher segnet das Gebet.
Denn ihr beide, Soma und du, Indra, seid die Herren des Himmelslichtes und der Kuh. Befruchtet unsere Gedanken, die ihr das vermöget!
Ведь вы двое, повелители солнца,
О Индра и Сома, повелители коров.
Сделайте (наши) мысли набухшими, (вы, которые) могут (это)!
वृषा॑ पुना॒न आ॒युषु॑ स्त॒नय॒न्नधि॑ ब॒र्हिषि॑ । हरि॒: सन्योनि॒मास॑दत् ॥
वृषा॑ । पु॒ना॒नः । आ॒युषु॑ । स्त॒नय॑न् । अधि॑ । ब॒र्हिषि॑ । हरिः॑ । सन् । योनि॑म् । आ । अ॒स॒द॒त् ॥
वृषा कामानां वर्षकः सोमः आयुषु मनुष्येष्वध्वर्य्वादिषु पुनानः पूयमानः सन् 'स्तनयन् शब्दं कुर्वन् अधि बर्हिषि । अधीति सप्तम्यर्थानुवादी । आस्तीर्णे दर्भे हरिः हरितवर्णः सन् योनिं स्वकीयं स्थानम् आसदत् आसीदति ॥
“The showerer (of benefits) being purified among men (lies) murmuring upon the sacred grass, green-tinted he sits down in his proper plural ce.”
The tawny Steer, while cleansed among the living, bellowing on the grass,
Hath sunk and settled in his home.
The bull, being purified among the Āyus, thundering upon the
ritual grass,
although being a fallow bay horse, has sat down on his womb.
Gereinigt bei den Menschen sitzt der goldne Hengst auf seinem Sitz, Laut wiehernd auf der Opferstreu.
Der Bulle, der sich bei den Ayu´s läutert, der auf dem Barhis donnert, obwohl er ein Falber ist, hat sich in den Schoß gesetzt.
Бык, очищаясь среди Аю,
Грохоча на жертвенной соломе,
Уселся на лоно, золотистый.
अवा॑वशन्त धी॒तयो॑ वृष॒भस्याधि॒ रेत॑सि । सू॒नोर्व॒त्सस्य॑ मा॒तर॑: ॥
अवा॑वशन्त । धी॒तयः॑ । वृ॒ष॒भस्य॑ । अधि॑ । रेत॑सि । सू॒नोः । व॒त्सस्य॑ । मा॒तरः॑ ॥
धीतयः धीयमानाः सोमाख्येन वत्सेन पीयमाना वसतीवर्यः । क्तिन् व्यत्ययेनान्तोदात्तः । अधि रेतसि स्वकीये सारे वृषभस्य वर्षकस्य सोमस्य । सोममित्यर्थः । अवावशन्त पुनः कामयन्ते । सोममाप्याययितुं कामयन्त इत्यर्थः । तदेवाह। सूनोः स्वपुत्रस्थानीयस्य वत्सस्य सोमस्य मातरः निर्मात्र्यः प्रवृद्धिकामा मातृस्थानीया अवावशन्तेति समन्वयः ॥
“The mothers of the male calf, which are sucked by him, long to cherish the bull with their strength.”
Over the Steer's productive flow the sacred songs were resonant,
The mothers of the darling Son.
Our insightful words have bellowed over the seed of the bull,
the mothers (over that) of the calf, their son.
Es rauschten die Gebete laut, des jungen Kalbes Mütter sie, Als seinen Samen liess der Stier.
Es brüllten die Gebete bei des Bullen Samen, die Mütter bei dem ihres Sohnes, des Kalbes.

В связи с семенем быка,
(Их) сына, теленка, (они,) матери.
कु॒विद्वृ॑ष॒ण्यन्ती॑भ्यः पुना॒नो गर्भ॑मा॒दध॑त् । याः शु॒क्रं दु॑ह॒ते पय॑: ॥
कु॒वित् । वृ॒ष॒न्यन्ती॑भ्यः । पु॒ना॒नः । गर्भ॑म् । आ॒ऽदध॑त् । याः । शु॒क्रम् । दु॒ह॒ते । पयः॑ ॥
वृषण्यन्तीभ्यः वृषणं सोममात्मन इच्छन्तीभ्यो वसतीवरीभ्यः पुनानः पूयमानो मिश्रयमाणः गर्भं स्वगर्भस्थानीयं रसं कुवित् बहु प्रभूतम् आदधत् करोति । याः आपः शुक्रं दीप्तं पयः दुहते स्ववत्साय सोमाय ताभ्यो गर्भमादधत् ॥
“The purified Soma has implanted many a germ in those (waters) desirous of conception, which yield bright milk.”
Hath he not, purified, impregned the kine whb long to meet their Lord,
The kine who yield the shining milk?
Will he indeed set an embryo for those females yearning for a bull, as he is being purified—
for those who give the gleaming milk?
Hat der geklärte Fracht gesetzt in Küh, die brünstig nach dem Stier, Und denen helle Milch entströmt?
Gewiß wird er, wenn er sich läutert, den nach dem Bullen Verlangenden eine Leibesfrucht zeugen, die die helle Milch aus ihm herausmelken.
Конечно, очищаясь, он вложит зародыша
Жаждущим быка, (тем,)
Которые выдаивают (из него) светлое молоко.
उप॑ शिक्षापत॒स्थुषो॑ भि॒यस॒मा धे॑हि॒ शत्रु॑षु । पव॑मान वि॒दा र॒यिम् ॥
उप॑ । शि॒क्ष॒ । अ॒प॒ऽत॒स्थुषः॑ । भि॒यस॑म् । आ । धे॒हि॒ । शत्रु॑षु । पव॑मान । वि॒दाः । र॒यिम् ॥
हे पवमान सोम उप शिक्ष त्वं समीपे कुरु । कान् । अपतस्थुषः अपक्रम्य स्थितान् । अस्मदभिमतानित्यर्थः। शत्रुषु अस्मद्विरोधिषु भियसं भयम् आ धेहि कुरु जनय । अस्माकं तेषां शत्रूणां रयिं धनं विदाः विन्दसि ॥
“Bring near to us those who stand aloof, strike terror into our fores; pure-flowing one, you do transfer to us their riches.”
Bring near us those who stand aloof strike fear into our enemies:
O Pavamana, find us wealth.
Seek to win over those who stand aside, but set fear among our rivals. Self-purifying one, find wealth.
Die fern sich halten, zieh' heran, den Feinden flösse Schrecken ein, Verleihe Reichthum, rieselnder!
Suche die Abgefallenen zu gewinnen, bring Furcht über die Feinde, o Pavamana, verschaffe Reichtum!
Привлеки стоящих в стороне,
Вложи страх во врагов!
О Павамана, создай (нам) богатство!
नि शत्रो॑: सोम॒ वृष्ण्यं॒ नि शुष्मं॒ नि वय॑स्तिर । दू॒रे वा॑ स॒तो अन्ति॑ वा ॥
नि । शत्रोः॑ । सो॒म॒ । वृष्ण्य॑म् । नि । शुष्म॑म् । नि । वयः॑ । ति॒र॒ । दू॒रे । वा॒ । स॒तः । अन्ति॑ । वा॒ ॥
हे अभिषूयमाण सोम त्वं शत्रोः वृष्ण्यं वर्षकं बलं नि तिर । निपूर्वस्तिरतिर्नाशार्थः । नाशय । तथा शत्रोः शुष्मं शोषकं तेजः नि तिर । तस्यैव वयः अन्नं च नि तिर । कीदृशस्य शत्रोः । दूरे वा सतः अस्मत्तो दूरे वर्तमानस्य अन्ति वा सतोऽन्तिके वर्तमानस्य वा ॥ ॥९॥
“Destroy, Soma, the vigour, the energy, the subsistence of our enemy, whether he be far off or nigh.”
Soma, bring down the foeman's might, his vigorous strength and vital powe'r,
Whether he be afar or near.
Soma, undermine the bull-like power of our rival, his tempestuousness, his vigor,
whether he be in the distance or nearby.1254 IX.20–21
Vernichte, Soma, Macht und Muth des Feindes, seine Jugendkraft, Mag nahe oder fern er sein.
O Soma, halte des Feindes Männlichkeit, seinen Mut, seine Kraft nieder, mag er fern oder nahe sein!
По(дави), о сома, мужество врага,
По(дави его) неистовство, подави силу жизни,
Будь он вблизи или далеко!
