ऋषिअसितः काश्यपो देवलो वा
देवतापवमानः सोमः

छन्दगायत्री
ए॒ते सोमा॑स आ॒शवो॒ रथा॑ इव॒ प्र वा॒जिन॑: । सर्गा॑: सृ॒ष्टा अ॑हेषत ॥
ए॒ते । सोमा॑सः । आ॒शवः॑ । रथाः॑ऽइव । प्र । वा॒जिनः॑ । सर्गाः॑ । सृ॒ष्टाः । अ॒हे॒ष॒त॒ ॥
एते पूयमानाः सोमासः सोमाः सृष्टाः अध्वर्युणा आशवः दशापवित्रादधोगमने शीघ्राः प्र अहेषत प्रहेषन्ते । शीघ्रगमने दृष्टान्तद्वयम् । आजौ सृष्टाः शीघ्राः रथाइव तथोक्तलक्षणाः वाजिनः इव वेजनवन्तोऽश्वा इव॥
“These Soma-jices, when let out, neigh as they leap swiftly forth like chariots or rapid steeds let loose.”
THESE rapid Soma-streams have stirred themselves to motion like strong steeds,
Like cars, like armies hurried forth.
These swift soma juices have been propelled forward like prizewinning chariots,
surges (of them) sent surging—
Schon eilten diese Soma's hin, die schnellen, raschen Wagen gleich, Wie losgelassne Rennerschar,
Diese schnellen Somasäfte sind wie die siegesgewohnten Wagen als abgelassene Renner vorwärts getrieben worden.
Эти быстрые соки сомы,
Словно колесницы, приносящие награду,
Были посланы вперед, (как) выпущенные стада.
ए॒ते वाता॑ इवो॒रव॑: प॒र्जन्य॑स्येव वृ॒ष्टय॑: । अ॒ग्नेरि॑व भ्र॒मा वृथा॑ ॥
ए॒ते वाताः॑ऽइव । उ॒रवः॑ । प॒र्जन्य॑स्यऽइव । वृ॒ष्टयः॑ । अ॒ग्नेःऽइ॑व । भ्र॒माः । वृथा॑ ॥
एते सोमाः उरवः महान्तः वाताइव वायव इव वृथा अनायासेन व्यानशुः इत्युत्तरत्र संबन्धनीयम् । अथवाध्याहारेण निःसरन्तीति योज्यम् । तथा पर्जन्यस्य वृष्टयः इव वर्षा यथा तथैव । किंच अग्नेः भ्रमाः भ्रमणा ज्वालासंचाराः इव ॥
“Like strong winds, like the rains of Parjanya, like the swift-whiring (flames) of fire.”
Swift as wide winds they lightly move, like rain-storms of Parjanya, like
The flickering flames of burning fire.
These, (surging) wide like the winds, like the rains of Parjanya,
(surging) at will like the flickerings of fire.
Sie, ausgedehnten Winden gleich, wie Regen aus dem Blitzgewölk, Wie Feuerflammen voller Lust.
Diese sind breit wie die Winde, wie die Regengüsse des Parjanya, ausgelassen wie die Lohen des Feuers.
Эти (соки,) широкие, как ветры,
Как дожди Парджаньи,
(Движутся) легко, как колебания огня.
ए॒ते पू॒ता वि॑प॒श्चित॒: सोमा॑सो॒ दध्या॑शिरः । वि॒पा व्या॑नशु॒र्धिय॑: ॥
ए॒ते । पू॒ताः । वि॒पः॒ऽचितः॑ सोमा॑सः । दधि॑ऽआशिरः । वि॒पा । वि । आ॒न॒शुः॒ । धियः॑ ॥
एते सोमासः सोमाः पूताः शुद्धाः विपश्चितः प्राज्ञाः दध्याशिरः दध्याश्रयणाः विपा प्रज्ञानेन धियः अस्मदीयानि कर्माणि व्यानशुः व्याप्नुवन्ति ॥
“These pure Soma-juices, sagacious, mixed with curds, easily pervade our cermonies with their intelligence.”
These Soma juices, blent with curds, purified, skilled in sacred hymns,
Have gained by song their hearts'desire.
These purified soma juices, mixed with curds, attentive to poetic
inspiration,
have pervaded our insights with inspiration.
Die hellen Soma's, milchgemischt, begeistert drangen sie hindurch Zu den Gebeten durch das Sieb.
Diese geläuterten, redekundigen, mit saurer Milch gemischten Somasäfte haben die Gedanken mit Beredsamkeit durchdrungen.
Эти чистые знающие вдохновение
Соки сомы, смешанные с кислым молоком,
Силой вдохновения овладели молитвами.
ए॒ते मृ॒ष्टा अम॑र्त्याः ससृ॒वांसो॒ न श॑श्रमुः । इय॑क्षन्तः प॒थो रज॑: ॥
ए॒ते । मृ॒ष्टाः । अम॑र्त्याः । स॒सृ॒ऽवांसः॑ । न । श॒श्र॒मुः॒ । इय॑क्षन्तः । प॒थः । रजः॑ ॥
एते सोमाः मृष्टाः दशापवित्रेण शोधिताः अमर्त्याः अमरणधर्माणः ससृवांसः हविर्धानात् सरन्तः पथः मार्गान् रजः लोकांश्च इयक्षन्तः गन्तुमिच्छन्तः न शश्रमुः न श्राम्यन्ति ॥
“Purified, immortal, issuing from the vessels, eager to traverse their (assigned) paths and the universe, they are never wearied.”
Immortal, cleansed, these drops, since first they flowed, have never wearied, fain
To reach the regions and their paths.
These immortal ones, once groomed, have not flagged in their flowing, as they seek to reach the paths through the airy space.
Gereinigt, die Unsterblichen, ob eilend auch, ermüden nicht, Durch Pfade dringend in die Luft.
Diese sauber gemachten unsterblichen Säfte sind nach ihrem Laufe nicht müde, wenn sie die Wegstrecke zurücklegen wollen.
Эти начищенные бессмертные (соки)
Не устают, хоть и мчались,
Стремясь найти пути в пространстве.
ए॒ते पृ॒ष्ठानि॒ रोद॑सोर्विप्र॒यन्तो॒ व्या॑नशुः । उ॒तेदमु॑त्त॒मं रज॑: ॥
ए॒ते । पृ॒ष्ठानि॑ । रोद॑सोः । वि॒ऽप्र॒यन्तः॑ । वि । आ॒न॒शुः॒ । उ॒त । इ॒दम् । उ॒त्ऽत॒मम् । रजः॑ ॥
एते सोमाः रोदसो: द्यावापृथिव्योः पृष्ठानि विप्रयन्तः विविधं गच्छन्तः व्यानशुः व्याप्नुवन्ति । उत अपि च इदमुत्तमं रजः द्युलोकं व्यानशुः । आहुतिद्वारेणेति भावः । रोदसोरित्यत्रान्तरिक्षोऽभिप्रेतः ॥
“Spreading in various directions, they pervade the surface of earth and sky, you and this highest heaven.”
Advancing they have travelled o'er the ridges of the earth and heaven,
And this the highest realm of all.
These, going forth widely, have pervaded the backs of the two
world-halves,
and this highest airy space.
Vorschreitend haben sie erreicht des Himmels und der Erde Höhn Und diesen höchsten Raum der Luft.
Diese haben, sich verlaufend, die Rücken der beiden Welten erfüllt und auch diesen obersten Raum.
Эти (соки сомы), разделяясь по мере продвижения вперед,
Достигли поверхности двух половин мироздания,
А также этого высшего пространства.
तन्तुं॑ तन्वा॒नमु॑त्त॒ममनु॑ प्र॒वत॑ आशत । उ॒तेदमु॑त्त॒माय्य॑म् ॥
तन्तु॑म् । त॒न्वा॒नम् । उ॒त्ऽत॒मम् । अनु॑ । प्र॒ऽवतः॑ । आ॒श॒त॒ । उ॒त । इ॒दम् । उ॒त्त॒माय्य॑म् ॥
तन्तुं यज्ञं तन्वानम् उत्तमम् उत्कृष्टं सोमम् अनु आशत प्रवतः नद्यः । उत अपि च इदं कर्म अनेन सोमेन उत्तमाय्यम् उत्तमीकृतम्। अथवा तन्तुं तन्वानं सोमं प्रवतोऽधःस्थिताः सर्वा अन्वाशत । उतेदमुत्तमाख्यं रजः । द्युलोक इत्यर्थः । सोऽप्यन्वश्नुते पृथिव्या चान्तरिक्षेण च । उत्तमीकृतमुत्तमाय्यम् ॥
“Descending rivers follow this excellent (Soma) as it spreads out the sacrifice; this rits is glorified thereby.”
Over the heights have they attained the highest thread that is spun out,
And this which must be deemed most high.
They have reached the highest thread being stretched, along the inclines, and this one that is to be higher still.

По нити, протянутой вверх,
Они достигли высот
И того (пространства), что в самом верху.
त्वं सो॑म प॒णिभ्य॒ आ वसु॒ गव्या॑नि धारयः । त॒तं तन्तु॑मचिक्रदः ॥
त्वम् । सो॒म॒ । प॒णिऽभ्यः॑ । आ । वसु॑ । गव्या॑नि । धा॒र॒यः॒ । त॒तम् । तन्तु॑म् । अ॒चि॒क्र॒दः॒ ॥
हे सोम त्वं पणिभ्यः असुरेभ्यो लुब्धकेभ्यो वा सकाशात् गव्यानि गोहितानि वसु वसूनि गोयूथानि वसूनि चेति वा आ आहृत्य धारयः धारयसि । तथा तन्तुं यज्ञं प्रति ततं विस्तृतं यथा भवति तथा अचिक्रदः शब्दमकार्षीः ॥ ॥ १२ ॥
“You, Soma, hold the wealth of kine which you have won from the Paṇis, you have called aloud at the outspread sacrifice.”
Thou, Soma, boldest wealth in kine which thou hast seized from niggard churls:
Thou calledst forth the outspun thread.
You, Soma, secured from the Paṇis the good things of cattle.
You have roared toward the stretched thread.
Du, Soma, hast vor Geizigen das rinderreiche Gut bewahrt, Und das Gewebe rauscht durch dich.
Du, Soma, sollst den Pani´s, den Geizhälsen, die Rinderschätze abnehmen. Du hast den aufgespannten Faden laut erklingen lassen.
