छन्दगायत्री
अस॑र्जि॒ रथ्यो॑ यथा प॒वित्रे॑ च॒म्वो॑: सु॒तः । कार्ष्म॑न्वा॒जी न्य॑क्रमीत् ॥
अस॑र्जि । रथ्यः॑ । य॒था॒ । प॒वित्रे॑ । च॒म्वोः॑ । सु॒तः । कार्ष्म॑न् । वा॒जी । नि । अ॒क्र॒मी॒त् ॥
रथ्यो यथा रथसंबन्ध्यश्व इव स यथा विसृज्यते तद्वत् चम्वोः अधिषवणफलकयोः सुतः अभिषुतः सोमः असर्जि सृष्टोऽभूत् पवित्रे । तथाभूतः वाजी वेजनवान् सोमाख्योऽश्वः कार्ष्मन् । कार्ष्म युद्धमितरेतरकर्षणात् । अत्र देवानामाकर्षणवति यज्ञाख्ये संग्रामे न्यक्रमीत् नितरां क्रामति ॥
“Pressed between the boards, (the Soma) has been let loose, like a chariot-horse, upon the straining-cloth-- the courser steps out on the field.”
FORTH from the mortar is the juice sent, like a car-horse, to the sieve:
The Steed steps forward to the goal.
He has been let loose like a chariot-horse into the filter, pressed into the two cups.
The prizewinner has stepped upon the finish-line.
Schon eilt er wie ein Wagenross ins Sieb vom Bretterpaar gepresst, Der Renner läuft zum Ziele hin.
Wie ein Wagenpferd ist er auf die Seihe losgesprengt, in den Camugefäßen ausgepreßt. Der siegreiche Renner ist ans Ziel gekommen.
स वह्नि॑: सोम॒ जागृ॑वि॒: पव॑स्व देव॒वीरति॑ । अ॒भि कोशं॑ मधु॒श्चुत॑म् ॥
सः । वह्निः॑ । सो॒म॒ । जागृ॑विः । पव॑स्व । दे॒व॒ऽवीः । अति॑ । अ॒भि । कोश॑म् । म॒धु॒ऽश्चुत॑म् ॥
हे सोम स वह्निः वाहकः जागृविः जागरूकः देववीः देवकामस्त्वं मधुश्चुतं मधुस्रावि कोशं दशापवित्रमतिक्रम्य अभि पवस्व द्रोणकलशं प्रति क्षर ॥
“Soma, bearer (of oblation), vigilant, devoted to the gods, flow past the honey-dropping filter (into the vessel).”
Thus, Soma, watchful, bearing well, cheering the Gods, flow past the sieve,
Turned to the vat that drops with meath.
As wakeful draft-horse, o Soma, purify yourself, pursuing the gods, beyond (the filter),
toward the cask dripping with honey.
So riesle Götter labend du, o Soma, munter fahrend, durch Zum Becher der von Honig trieft.
Als Wagenpferd, o Soma, wachsam, läutere du dich, die Götter einladend, durch die Seihe laufend zu der von Süßigkeit überlaufenden Kufe.
स नो॒ ज्योतीं॑षि पूर्व्य॒ पव॑मान॒ वि रो॑चय । क्रत्वे॒ दक्षा॑य नो हिनु ॥
सः । नः॒ । ज्योतीं॑षि । पू॒र्व्य॒ । पव॑मान । वि । रो॒च॒य॒ । क्रत्वे॑ । दक्षा॑य । नः॒ । हि॒नु॒ ॥
हे पूर्व्य पुराण पवमान सोम नः अस्माकं ज्योतींषि दिव्यानि स्थानानि वि रोचय प्रकाशय । किंच क्रत्वे कर्मणे यागाय दक्षाय बलाय च बलप्रदाय यागाय वा नः अस्मान् हिनु प्रेरय ॥
“Ancient purifier, illume for us the luminaries (of heaven), animate us for strength-bestowing sacrifice.”
Excellent Pavamana, make the lights shine brightly out for us.
Speed us to mental power and skill.
O age-old self-purifying one, make the lights shine forth for us;
impel us toward will, toward skill.
Entzünde du, o rieselnder, o alter, helle Lichter uns, Zu Kraft und Weisheit fördre uns.
Laß du uns deine Lichter leuchten, du allererster Pavamana; rege uns zu Rat und Tat an!
शु॒म्भमा॑न ऋता॒युभि॑र्मृ॒ज्यमा॑नो॒ गभ॑स्त्योः । पव॑ते॒ वारे॑ अ॒व्यये॑ ॥
शु॒म्भमा॑नः । ऋ॒त॒युऽभिः॑ । मृ॒ज्यमा॑नः । गभ॑स्त्योः । पव॑ते । वारे॑ । अ॒व्यये॑ ॥
ऋतायुभिः यज्ञकामैर्ऋत्विग्भिः शुम्भमानः अलंक्रियमाणस्तेषामेव गभस्त्योः हस्तयोः मृज्यमानः सोमः अव्यये अविमये वारे वाले देशापवित्रे पवते पूयते ॥
“Beautified by the ministers of the rite, expressed by their hands, (the Soma) flows through the woollen filter.”
He, beautified by pious men, and coming from their hands adorned,
Flows through the fleecy straining-cloth.
Being beautified by those who seek truth, being groomed in the
two hands,
he purifies himself in the sheep’s fleece.
Von frommen Männern ausgeschmückt, gereinigt durch der Arme Paar Strömt hell er durch des Widders Haar.
Von den Frommen schön gemacht, zwischen den Händen geputzt, läutert er sich in der Schafwolle.
स विश्वा॑ दा॒शुषे॒ वसु॒ सोमो॑ दि॒व्यानि॒ पार्थि॑वा । पव॑ता॒मान्तरि॑क्ष्या ॥
सः । विश्वा॑ । दा॒शुषे॑ । वसु॑ । सोमः॑ । दि॒व्यानि॑ । पार्थि॑वा । पव॑ताम् । आ । अ॒न्तरि॑क्ष्या ॥
सः अभिषूयमाणः सोमः दाशुषे हविर्दात्रे विश्वा सर्वाणि वसु वसूनि धनानि पवतां प्रयच्छतु । विश्वानीयुक्तस्य विवरणं शिष्टम् । दिव्यानि दिवि भवानि पार्थिवा पृथिवीसंबद्धानि अन्तरिक्ष्या अन्तरिक्षे भवानि च पवताम् ॥
“May that Soma bestow upon the donor (of the libation) all treasures, whether of heaven or earth or the firmament.”
May Soma pour all treasures of the heavens, the earth, the firmament
Upon the liberal worshipper.
All goods for the pious man—heavenly, earthly, and those of the
midspace—
let Soma bring in purifying himself.
Er, Soma, riesle alles Gut, was auf der Erd', im Himmel ist Und in der Luft, dem Frommen zu.
Soma soll in der Läuterung dem Opferspender alle Schätze herbringen, die himmlischen, die irdischen und die in der Luft.
आ दि॒वस्पृ॒ष्ठम॑श्व॒युर्ग॑व्य॒युः सो॑म रोहसि । वी॒र॒युः श॑वसस्पते ॥
आ । दि॒वः । पृ॒ष्ठम् । अ॒श्व॒ऽयुः । ग॒व्य॒ऽयुः । सो॒म॒ । रो॒ह॒सि॒ । वी॒र॒ऽयुः । श॒व॒सः॒ । प॒ते॒ ॥
हे सोम त्वं स्तोतॄणाम् अश्वयुः अश्वमिच्छन् गव्ययुः गा इच्छन् वीरयुः पुत्रानिच्छन् दिवस्पृष्ठं द्युलोकम् आ रोहसि आहुतिद्वारा हे शवसस्पते अन्नस्य पालक ॥ ॥ २६ ॥
“Soma, lord of food, you ascend to the summit of the sky, desirous of horses, kine, and male progeny.”
Thou mountest to the height of heaven, O Soma, seeking steeds and kine,
And seeking heroes, Lord of Strength!
O Soma, you mount the back of heaven, seeking cows, seeking horses, seeking heroes, o lord of strength.
Du steigst empor zur Himmelshöh, nach Rossen, Rindern, Heldenschar Begierig, Soma, Herr der Kraft.
Du besteigst nach Roß und Rind verlangend des Himmels Rücken, o Soma, nach Mannen verlangend, du Herr der Kraft.
