छन्दगायत्री
स सु॒तः पी॒तये॒ वृषा॒ सोम॑: प॒वित्रे॑ अर्षति । वि॒घ्नन्रक्षां॑सि देव॒युः ॥
सः । सु॒तः । पी॒तये॑ । वृषा॑ । सोमः॑ । प॒वित्रे॑ । अ॒र्ष॒ति॒ । वि॒ऽघ्नन् । रक्षां॑सि । दे॒व॒ऽयुः ॥
सः सोमः पीतये इन्द्रादिपानाय सुतः अभिषुतः वृषा वर्षणः सन् पवित्रे . अर्षति गच्छति । किं कुर्वन्। रक्षांसि विघ्नन्’ देवयुः देवकामः स इत्यन्वयः ॥
“Soma, the showerer (of benefits), when effused for the drinking (of the gods), rushes to the filter, destroying the rākṣas, devoted to the gods.”
SOMA, the Steer, effused for draught, flows to the purifying sieve,
Slaying the fiends, loving the Gods.
He, the bullish soma, pressed for drinking, rushes into the filter,
smashing aside the demons, seeking the gods.
Der Soma rinnt zum Trunk gepresst hin auf die Seihe, er der Stier, Gespenster tödtend, Göttern hold.
Der Bulle Soma rinnt zum Trunke ausgepreßt in die Seihe, die Unholde vertreibend, nach den Göttern verlangend.
स प॒वित्रे॑ विचक्ष॒णो हरि॑रर्षति धर्ण॒सिः । अ॒भि योनिं॒ कनि॑क्रदत् ॥
सः । प॒वित्रे॑ । वि॒ऽच॒क्ष॒णः । हरिः॑ । अ॒र्ष॒ति॒ । ध॒र्ण॒सिः । अ॒भि । योनि॑म् । कनि॑क्रदत् ॥
सः सोमः विचक्षणः । पश्यतिकर्मैतत् । सर्वस्य द्रष्टा हरिः हरितवर्णः सोमः धर्णसिः सर्वस्य धारकः पवित्रे अर्षति गच्छति । पश्चात् कनिक्रदत् शब्दं कुर्वन् योनिं स्थानं द्रोणकलशम् अभि गच्छति ॥
“The all-beholding Soma, green-tinted, all-sustaining rush to the filter (and thence) crying aloud to the pitcher.”
Far-sighted, tawny-coloured, he flows to the sieve, intelligent,
Bellowing, to his place of rest.
He, the tawny one, wide-gazing, rushes steadily into the filter,
continually neighing toward his womb.
Weitblickend rennt der goldne Hengst zur Seihe hin, der kräftige, Entgegenwiehernd seinem Sitz.
Der hellsehende Falbe rinnt ausdauernd auf die Seihe, brüllend auf seine Wiege zu.
स वा॒जी रो॑च॒ना दि॒वः पव॑मानो॒ वि धा॑वति । र॒क्षो॒हा वार॑म॒व्यय॑म् ॥
सः । वा॒जी । रो॒च॒ना । दि॒वः । पव॑मानः । वि । धा॒व॒ति॒ । र॒क्षः॒ऽहा । वार॑म् । अ॒व्यय॑म् ॥
स वाजी वेजनवानश्वस्थानीयः दिवः स्वर्गस्य रोचना रोचकः पवमानः पूयमानः वि धावति । कीदृशः । रक्षोहा रक्षोहन्ता अव्ययं वारं दशापवित्रमतीत्य च धावति ॥
“(Fleet as) a horse, the pure Soma, the illume of heaven, hastens, the destroyer of rākṣasas, past the woollen fleece.”
This vigorous Pavamana runs forth to the luminous realm of heaven,
Fiend-slayer, through the fleecy sieve.
He, the prizewinner, self-purifying, runs through the luminous realms of heaven,
through the sheep’s fleece, as demon-smasher.
Der Renner eilt, der flammende, hin durch des Himmels Aetherraum, Feindtödtend durch das wollne Sieb.
Der Preisrenner durchläuft, sich läuternd, die Lichter des Himmels, die Schafwolle, der die Unholde erschlägt.
स त्रि॒तस्याधि॒ सान॑वि॒ पव॑मानो अरोचयत् । जा॒मिभि॒: सूर्यं॑ स॒ह ॥
सः । त्रि॒तस्य॑ । अधि॑ । सान॑वि । पव॑मानः । अ॒रो॒च॒य॒त् । जा॒मिऽभिः॑ । सूर्य॑म् । स॒ह ॥
सः सोमः त्रितस्य महर्षेः अधि सानवि समुच्छ्रिते यज्ञे । अधीति सप्तम्यर्थानुवादी। पवमानः पूयमानः जामिभिः प्रवृद्धैर्बन्धुभूतैर्वा स्वतेजोभिः सह सहितः सन् 'सूर्यम् अरोचयत् प्रकाशितवान् ॥
“The pure Soma upon the high plural ce (of the sacrifice) of Trita, attended by its kindred rays, has lighted up the Sun.”
This Payamana up above Trita's high ridge hath made the Sun,
Together with the Sisters, shine.
He, purifying himself on the back of Trita along with Trita’s kin
[=fingers],
has made the sun shine.
Hoch auf des Trita Bergeshöh entzündete der flammende Die Sonne sammt der Schwesterschar.
Auf dem erhöhten Platze des Trita ließ Pavamana die Sonne leuchten im Verein mit den Geschwistern des Trita.
स वृ॑त्र॒हा वृषा॑ सु॒तो व॑रिवो॒विददा॑भ्यः । सोमो॒ वाज॑मिवासरत् ॥
सः । वृ॒त्र॒ऽहा । वृषा॑ । सु॒तः । व॒रि॒वः॒ऽवित् । अदा॑भ्यः । सोमः॑ । वाज॑म्ऽइव । अ॒स॒र॒त् ॥
स वृत्रहा वृषा वर्षकः सुतः अभिषुतः वरिवोवित् यष्टुर्धनस्य लम्भकः अदाभ्यः अन्यैरदम्भनीयः सोमः वाजमिव संग्राममश्व इव असरत् गच्छति कलशम् ॥
“The slayer of Vṛtra, the showerer of benefits, the giver of wealth, the invincible, the effused Soma proceeds (to the pitcher) as (a horse) to battle.”
This Vrtra-slaying Steer, effused, Soma room-giver, ne'er deceived,
Hath gone, as 'twere, to win the spoil.
He, the Vr̥tra-smasher, the bull, finding the wide realm when pressed, undeceivable—
Soma has flowed as if to a prize.
Der Vritratödter Soma lief heilspendend, der erzeugte Hengst, Untilgbar wie zur Beute hin.
Der Vritratöter, der ausgepreßte Bulle, der einen Ausweg ins Freie findet, der untrügliche Soma ist gleichsam um den Siegerpreis gelaufen.
स दे॒वः क॒विने॑षि॒तो॒३॒॑ऽभि द्रोणा॑नि धावति । इन्दु॒रिन्द्रा॑य मं॒हना॑ ॥
सः । दे॒वः । क॒विना॑ । इ॒षि॒तः । अ॒भि । द्रोणा॑नि । धा॒व॒ति॒ । इन्दुः॑ । इन्द्रा॑य । मं॒हना॑ ॥
सः सोमः देवः इन्दुः क्लिद्यमानः कविना क्रान्तप्रज्ञेनाध्वर्युणा इषितः प्रेरितः सन् द्रोणानि द्रोणकलशान् अभि धावति अभिगच्छति । किमर्थम् । इन्द्राय इन्द्रार्थम् । मंहना महान् स इति समन्वयः ॥ ॥ २७ ॥
“The divine Soma, when effused by the priest, hastens in his might to the pitchers for Indra.”
Urged onward by the sage, the God speeds forward to the casks of wood,
Indu to Indra willingly.
He, the god impelled by the poet, runs to the wooden cups—
the drop with his munificence for Indra.
Er strömt, vom Sänger ausgesandt, der Gott, zu den Gefässen hin, Zu Indra Indu voll Begier.
Der Gott läuft, vom Dichter getrieben, nach den Holzgefäßen, der Saft bereitwillig für Indra.
