ऋषिबृहन्मतिः
देवतापवमानः सोमः

छन्दगायत्री
आ॒शुर॑र्ष बृहन्मते॒ परि॑ प्रि॒येण॒ धाम्ना॑ । यत्र॑ दे॒वा इति॒ ब्रव॑न् ॥
आ॒शुः । अ॒र्ष॒ । बृ॒ह॒त्ऽम॒ते॒ । परि॑ । प्रि॒येण॑ । धाम्ना॑ । यत्र॑ । दे॒वाः । इति॑ । ब्रव॑न् ॥
हे बृहन्मते महामते सोम प्रियेण देवानां प्रियतमेन धाम्ना शरीरेण धारया आशुः शीघ्रः सन् परि अर्ष परिगच्छ । यत्र देवाः इन्द्रादयो वर्तन्ते इति ब्रवन ब्रुवन् उच्चारयन् । तां दिशं गच्छामीति ब्रुवन्नित्यर्थः ॥
“Great-minded Soma, go swift with your body that is most dear (to the gods), saying, 'Where are the gods?'”
FLOW On, O thou of lofty thought, flow swift in thy beloved form,
Saying, I go where dwell the Gods.
You of lofty thought, swiftly rush around through your dear domain, to where they will say “(here are) the gods.”
O hochgesinnter, ströme schnell durch den geliebten Ort dahin, »Wo Götter sind«, das ist dein Wort.
Fließe schnell ab, du Hochgesinnter, in deiner angenehmen Form, dorthin, wo man sagt, daß die Götter sind.
प॒रि॒ष्कृ॒ण्वन्ननि॑ष्कृतं॒ जना॑य या॒तय॒न्निष॑: । वृ॒ष्टिं दि॒वः परि॑ स्रव ॥
प॒रि॒ऽकृ॒ण्वन् । अनिः॑ऽकृतम् । जना॑य । या॒तय॑न् । इषः॑ । वृ॒ष्टिम् । दि॒वः । परि॑ । स्र॒व॒ ॥
अनिष्कृतम् असंस्कृतं यजमानं स्थानं वा परिष्कृण्वन् संस्कुर्वन् जनाय यागकर्त्रे इषः अन्नानि यातयन् निर्गमयन् दिवः अन्तरिक्षात् वृष्टिं परि स्रव ॥
“Sanctifying the unconsecrated (worshipper) bringing food for the offerer, pour down rain from heaven.”
Preparing what is unprepared, and bringing store of food to man,
Make thou the rain descend from heaven.
Preparing what was not fully prepared, arranging the refreshments for the people,
stream the rain from heaven all about.
Das ungeschmückte schmückend schön, dem Menschen reichend Labetrunk, Ergiess des Himmels Regen uns.
Das unfertige vollkommen machend, dem Manne mit Labsalen vergeltend, laß des Himmels Regen strömen!
सु॒त ए॑ति प॒वित्र॒ आ त्विषिं॒ दधा॑न॒ ओज॑सा । वि॒चक्षा॑णो विरो॒चय॑न् ॥
सु॒तः । ए॒ति॒ । प॒वित्रे॑ । आ । त्विषि॑म् । दधा॑नः । ओज॑सा । वि॒ऽचक्षा॑णः । वि॒ऽरो॒चय॑न् ॥
सुतः अभिषुतः सोमः सन् पवित्रे दशापवित्रे । आ इत्यनर्थकः । ओजसा बलेन शीघ्रम् एति गच्छति । कीदृशः सन् । त्विषिं दीप्तिं दधानः धारयन् विचक्षाणः सर्वं पश्यन् विरोचयन् दीपयंश्च । किम् । देवानिति शेषः ॥
“(The Soma) when effused enters the filter with force, giving forth light, beholding and illuminating (all things).”
With might, bestowing power, thejuice enters the purifying sieve,
Far-seeing, sending forth its light.
Pressed, he goes into the filter, taking on vibrancy with his strength, gazing widely, producing wide illumination.
Gepresst geht er zur Seihe hin, mit Kraft erzeugend hellen Glanz, Weit schauend und erleuchtend weit.
Ausgepreßt geht er in die Seihe durch seine Stärke Machtglanz annehmend, sich umschauend, erleuchtend.
अ॒यं स यो दि॒वस्परि॑ रघु॒यामा॑ प॒वित्र॒ आ । सिन्धो॑रू॒र्मा व्यक्ष॑रत् ॥
अ॒यम् । सः । यः । दि॒वः । परि॑ । र॒घु॒ऽयामा॑ । प॒वित्रे॑ । आ । सिन्धोः॑ । ऊ॒र्मा । वि । अक्ष॑रत् ॥
अयं सः सोमः पवित्रे आ सिच्यमान इति शेषः । सिन्धोः जलस्राविण्याः ऊर्मा ऊर्मौ संघाते व्यक्षरत् विविधं क्षरति । स इत्युक्तं क इत्याह । यो दिवस्परि द्युलोकस्योपरि रघुयामा लघुगमनो देवप्राप्तौ सोऽयमिति संबन्धः ॥
“This (Soma), who light of movement (mounts) toheaven, through the filter in a stream of water.”
This is it which in rapid course hath with the river's wave flowed down
From heaven upon the straining cloth.
Here he is—the one with a rapid course who has flowed widely from heaven into the filter,
into the swell of the river.
Er ist es, der in schnellem Lauf vom Himmel zu der Seihe hin In Stromes Welle niederrinnt.
Er ist es, der in raschem Laufe vom Himmel in die Seihe, auf die Welle des Stromes abgeflossen ist.
आ॒विवा॑सन्परा॒वतो॒ अथो॑ अर्वा॒वत॑: सु॒तः । इन्द्रा॑य सिच्यते॒ मधु॑ ॥
आ॒ऽविवा॑सन् । प॒रा॒ऽवतः॑ । अथो॒ इति॑ । अ॒र्वा॒ऽवतः॑ । सु॒तः । इन्द्रा॑य । सि॒च्य॒ते॒ । मधु॑ ॥
सुतः अभिषुतः सोमः परावतः । दूरनामैतत् । दूरस्थान् अथो अपि च अर्वावतः अन्तिकस्थांश्च देवान् आविवासन् । रसेन परिचरणायेत्यर्थः । इन्द्राय इन्द्रार्थं मधु मधुसदृशः सोमः सिच्यते ॥
“The effused (Soma) honouring (the gods) whether he is far off or nigh, is poured out (as) madhu for Indra.”
Inviting him frorh far away, and even from near at hand, the juice
For Indra is poured forth as meath.
Seeking to lure from afar, and also from nearby, the pressed one
is poured as honey for Indra.
Ihn lockend aus der Ferne her und aus der Nähe her, ergiesst Der Saft dem Indra süssen Trank.
Er, der Fern und Nah anlockt, wird ausgepreßt als Süßtrank dem Indra eingeschenkt.
स॒मी॒ची॒ना अ॑नूषत॒ हरिं॑ हिन्व॒न्त्यद्रि॑भिः । योना॑वृ॒तस्य॑ सीदत ॥
स॒मी॒ची॒नाः । अ॒नू॒ष॒त॒ । हरि॑म् । हि॒न्व॒न्ति॒ । अद्रि॑ऽभिः । योनौ॑ । ऋ॒तस्य॑ । सी॒द॒त्च ॥
समीचीनाः सम्यगञ्चिताः संगताः स्तोतारः अनूषत स्तुवन्ति । किंच सोमं हरिं हरितवर्णं हिन्वन्ति प्रेरयन्ति गमयन्ति अद्रिभिः ग्रावभिः । यस्मादेवं तस्मात् ऋतस्य यज्ञस्य योनौ स्थाने सीदत निषण्णा भवत हे देवाः ॥ ॥ २९ ॥
“The united (worshippers) praise (him), they squeeze (him) forth green-tinted with the stones; sit down (O gods) at the plural ce of sacrifice.”
In union they have sung the hymn: with stones they urge the Tawny One.
Sit in the place of sacrifice.
United they have roared. They impel the tawny one with the stones, (saying,) “Sit in the womb of truth.”
Vereinigt haben sie gejauchzt, durch Steine spornen sie das Ross; Nun setzt euch in des Opfers Schooss.
Vereint haben sie gesungen; den Falben treiben sie mit den Steinen zum Laufe. Setzet euch auf den ordnungsgemäßen Schoß!
