देवतापवमानः सोमः

छन्दगायत्री
ज॒नय॑न्रोच॒ना दि॒वो ज॒नय॑न्न॒प्सु सूर्य॑म् । वसा॑नो॒ गा अ॒पो हरि॑: ॥
ज॒नय॑न् । रो॒च॒ना । दि॒वः । ज॒नय॑न् । अ॒प्ऽसु । सूर्य॑म् । वसा॑नः । गाः । अ॒पः । हरिः॑ ॥
अयं हरिः सोमः दिवः द्युसंबन्धीनि रोचना रोचनानि नक्षत्रग्रहमण्डलानि जनयन् तथा अप्सु अन्तरिक्षे सूर्यं च जनयन् तथा गाः अधोगन्त्रीः अपः वसानः भूमिमात्मानं वाच्छादयन् पवत इत्युत्तरत्र संबन्धः ॥
“The green-tinted (Soma) genitive rating the luminaries of heaven, genitive rating the sun in the firmament, clothing himself with the descending water.”
ENGENDERING the Sun in floods, engendering heaven's lights, green-hued,
Robed in the waters and the milk,
Begetting the luminous realms of heaven, begetting the sun in the waters, clothing himself in cows, in the waters—the tawny one—
Erzeugend Licht des Himmelsraums in Nebelflut der Sonne Glanz, Ein Ross in Milch und Flut gehüllt,
Die Lichter des Himmels hervorbringend, die Sonne im Wasser hervorbringend läutert sich der Falbe, sich in Milch, in Wasser kleidend.
ए॒ष प्र॒त्नेन॒ मन्म॑ना दे॒वो दे॒वेभ्य॒स्परि॑ । धार॑या पवते सु॒तः ॥
ए॒षः । प्र॒त्नेन॑ । मन्म॑ना । दे॒वः । दे॒वेभ्यः॑ । परि॑ । धार॑या । प॒व॒ते॒ । सु॒तः ॥
एषः सोमः प्रत्नेन पुराणेन मन्मना मननीयेन स्तोत्रेण युक्तः सुतः अभिषुतश्च सन् देवेभ्यः परि परितः धारया स्वीयया पवते ॥
“He with ancient praise when effused flows in a stream, a god for the gods.”
According to primeval plan this Soma, with his stream, effused
Flows purely on, a God for Gods.
He, by means of an age-old thought, a god from among the gods,
purifies himself in a stream, when pressed.
Er rieselt hell im alten Geist, ein Gott er, von den Göttern her Im Strome flammt er ausgepresst.
Dieser Gott über alle Götter läutert sich unter altgewohnter Andacht in Strömen ausgepreßt.
वा॒वृ॒धा॒नाय॒ तूर्व॑ये॒ पव॑न्ते॒ वाज॑सातये । सोमा॑: स॒हस्र॑पाजसः ॥
व॒वृ॒धा॒नाय॑ । तूर्व॑ये । पव॑न्ते । वाज॑ऽसातये । सोमाः॑ । स॒हस्र॑ऽपाजसः ॥
वावृधानाय वर्धसानाय तूर्वये क्षिप्राय वाजसातये संग्रामायान्नलाभाय वा पवन्ते पूयन्ते । के । सोमाः । कीदृशाः । सहस्रपाजसः अपरिमितबलाः । असंख्यातवेगा इत्यर्थः ॥
“The Soma juices of unbounded vigour flow for the increasing, rapid acquisition of food.”
For him victorious, waxen great, the juices with a thousand powers
Are purified for winning spoil.
For the ever-increasing victor [=Indra] to win the prize, they purify themselves—
the thousand-faceted soma juices.
Die Somatränke rieseln hell zur Kraft dem grossen mächtigen, Mit tausendfachem Glanz begabt.
Für den erstarkten Sieger zum Beutegewinn läutern sich die Somasäfte in tausend Formen und Farben.
दु॒हा॒नः प्र॒त्नमित्पय॑: प॒वित्रे॒ परि॑ षिच्यते । क्रन्द॑न्दे॒वाँ अ॑जीजनत् ॥
दु॒हा॒नः । प्र॒त्नम् । इत् । पयः॑ । प॒वित्रे॑ । परि॑ । सि॒च्य॒ते॒ । क्रन्द॑न् । दे॒वान् । अ॒जी॒ज॒न॒त् ॥
प्रत्नमित् पुराणमेव पयः रस दुहानः दधानः सोमः पवित्रे परि षिच्यते । किंच क्रन्दन् शब्दं कुर्वन् देवानजीजनत् जनयति स्वसमीपे । यत्र सोमोऽभिषूयते तत्र देवा नियतं प्रादुर्भवन्ति । अतो जनयतीत्युपचर्यते ॥
“Milking forth the ancient fluid, the Soma is poured into the filter and crying out genitive rates the gods.”
Shedding the ancient fluid he is poured into the cleansing sieve:
He, thundering, hath produced the Gods.
Milking out his age-old milk, he is poured around into the filter.
Roaring, he has begotten the gods.
Ausströmend stets den alten Trank rinnt wiehernd durch die Seihe er, Die Götter hat er neu belebt.
Seine altgewohnte Milch hergebend wird er auf die Seihe gegossen; brüllend hat er die Götter erzeugt.
अ॒भि विश्वा॑नि॒ वार्या॒भि दे॒वाँ ऋ॑ता॒वृध॑: । सोम॑: पुना॒नो अ॑र्षति ॥
अ॒भि । विश्वा॑नि । वार्या॑ । अ॒भि । दे॒वान् । ऋ॒त॒ऽवृधः॑ । सोमः॑ । पु॒ना॒नः । अ॒र्ष॒ति॒ ॥
अयं सोमः पुनान: पूयमानः विश्वानि वार्या वरणीयानि धनानि अभि अर्षति । तथा ऋतावृधः यज्ञवर्धकान् देवान् अभि अर्षति ॥
“Soma, being purified hastens towards all desirable (wealth), towards the gods who favour the sacrifice.”
Soma, while purifying, sends hither all things to be desired,
He sends the Gods who strengthen Law.
Toward all desirable things, toward the gods who become strong through truth. Soma rushes while he is being purified.
Und alle Güter strömt er zu den Göttern, die des Rechts sich freun, Der Soma, der gereinigte.
Sich läuternd rinnt der Soma um alle begehrenswerten Dinge zu gewinnen, für die Gesetzesförderer, die Götter.
गोम॑न्नः सोम वी॒रव॒दश्वा॑व॒द्वाज॑वत्सु॒तः । पव॑स्व बृह॒तीरिष॑: ॥
गोऽम॑त् । नः॒ । सो॒म॒ । वी॒रऽव॑त् । अश्व॑वत् । वाज॑ऽवत् । सु॒तः । पव॑स्व । बृह॒तीः । इषः॑ ॥
हे सोम सुतः त्वं नः अस्मभ्यं गोमत् गोभिर्युक्तं वीरवत् बहुभिर्वीरैरुपेतम् अश्वावत् अश्वैर्युक्तं वाजवत् वाजैर्बलैः संग्रामैर्वोपेतं धनं बृहतीरिषः प्रभूतान्यन्नानि पवस्व । प्रयच्छेत्यर्थः ॥ ॥ ३२ ॥
“Soma, being effused pour down to us (wealth) consisting of kine, male offspring, horses, and strength, and abundant food.”
Soma, effused, pour on us wealth in kine, in heroes, steeds, and spoil,
Send us abundant store of food.
O Soma, when you are pressed, bring us (wealth) in cattle, in heroes, in horses and prizes,
and lofty refreshments in purifying yourself.
O Soma, riesle Reichthum uns an Rind und Ross, an Helden zu, An Speis' und Trank, gepresster du.
Ausgepreßt läutere uns Besitz von Rindern, Söhnen, Rossen, Siegesgewinnen, große Labsale zu, o Soma!
