ऋषिअसितः काश्यपो देवलो वा
देवतापवमानः सोमः

छन्दगायत्री
म॒न्द्रया॑ सोम॒ धार॑या॒ वृषा॑ पवस्व देव॒युः । अव्यो॒ वारे॑ष्वस्म॒युः ॥
म॒न्द्रया॑ । सो॒म॒ । धार॑या । वृषा॑ । प॒व॒स्व॒ । दे॒व॒ऽयुः । अव्यः॑ । वारे॑षु । अ॒स्म॒ऽयुः ॥
हे सोम वृषा कामानां वर्षिता देवयुः देवकामः अस्मयुः अस्मत्कामश्च अव्यः अवेः वारेषु वालेषु दशापवित्रे मन्द्रया मदकरया धारया पवस्व क्षर ॥
“Soma, who is the showerer (of benefits), devoted to the gods, favourable to us, flow with your exhilarating stream into the woollen sieve.”
SOMA, flow on with pleasant stream, a Bull devoted to the Gods,
Our Friend, unto the woollen sieve.
O Soma, as bull purify yourself in a gladdening stream as you seek the gods,
as you seek us, in the sheep’s fleece.
Mit munterm Strome riesele, o Soma, durch die Wolle hin, Uns liebend und den Göttern hold.
In wohltönendem Strome läutere dich, Soma, in den Schafhaaren, du der gottverlangende Stier, uns zugetan!
Благозвучным потоком, о сома,
Очищайся, как бык, любящий богов,
В волосках из овечьей шерсти, (ты) любящий нас!
अ॒भि त्यं मद्यं॒ मद॒मिन्द॒विन्द्र॒ इति॑ क्षर । अ॒भि वा॒जिनो॒ अर्व॑तः ॥
अ॒भि । त्यम् । मद्य॑म् । मद॑म् । इन्दो॒ इति॑ । इन्द्रः॑ । इति॑ । क्ष॒र॒ । अ॒भि । वा॒जिनः॑ । अर्व॑तः ॥
हे इन्दो सोम त्वम् इन्द्रः ईश्वरः इति कृत्वा त्यं तं मद्यं मदकरं मदं रसम् अभि क्षर वर्ष । वाजिनः बलवतः अर्वतः अश्वांश्च अस्मदर्थम् अभि क्षरेत्यर्थः । ।
“Indu,do you, as sovereign, effuse that exhilarating juice, and pour forth vigorous steeds.”
Pour hitherward, as Indra's Self, Indu, that gladdening stream of thine,
And send us coursers full of strength.
Toward this exhilarating exhilaration, o drop, flow as “Indra”—
and toward prizewinning chargers.
Den starken Rauschtrank ströme du den Indra rufend, Indu, her Und schnelle Rosse uns herbei.
Fließe zu solchem berauschenden Rausche, o Saft, indem du denkst: Ich bin Indra! Fließe um sieggewohnte Rennpferde einzubringen.
Теки к этому пьяняещему опьянению,
О сок, (говоря себе) так: Индра!,
Теки к скакунам, приносящим награду.
अ॒भि त्यं पू॒र्व्यं मदं॑ सुवा॒नो अ॑र्ष प॒वित्र॒ आ । अ॒भि वाज॑मु॒त श्रव॑: ॥
अ॒भि । त्यम् । पू॒र्व्यम् । मद॑म् । सु॒वा॒नः । अ॒र्ष॒ । प॒वित्रे॑ । आ । अ॒भि । वाज॑म् । उ॒त । श्रवः॑ ॥
हे सोम सुवानः अभिषूयमाणस्त्वं पूर्व्यं प्रत्नं त्यं तं प्रसिद्ध मदं मदकरं रसं पवित्रे आ समन्तात् अभि अर्ष अभिगमय । वाजं बलमस्मान् अभि अर्ष । उत अपि च श्रवः अन्नमभ्यर्ष ॥
“Rain out through the filter, while pressed that ancient exhilarating fluid, and pour us forth strength and food.”
Flow to the filter hitherward, pouring that ancient gladdening juice,
Streaming forth power and high renown.
Toward this ancient exhilaration rush into the filter as you are being pressed,
and toward victory’s prize and fame.
Und ströme diesen ersten Trank, gepresster, durch die Seihe her, Und Gut und Nahrung uns herbei.
Fließe zu jenem altgewohnten Rausche, wenn du auf die Seihe ausgepreßt wirst, fließe zu Gewinn und Ruhm!

К этому древнему опьянению,
К награде, а также к славе!
अनु॑ द्र॒प्सास॒ इन्द॑व॒ आपो॒ न प्र॒वता॑सरन् । पु॒ना॒ना इन्द्र॑माशत ॥
अनु॑ । द्र॒प्सासः॑ । इन्द॑वः । आपः॑ । न । प्र॒वता॑ । अ॒स॒र॒न् । पु॒ना॒नाः । इन्द्र॑म् । आ॒श॒त॒ ॥
द्रप्सासः द्रुतगतयः पुनानाः क्षरन्तः इन्दवः सोमाः प्रवता प्रवणेन मार्गेण आपो न आप इव इन्द्रम् अनु असरन् अनुगच्छन्ति । आशत व्याप्नुवन्ति च ॥
“The quickly-falling drops, as they filter, follow Indra and reach him, like waters rushing down a declivity.”
Hither the sparkling drops have flowed, like waters down a steep descent
They have reached Indra purified.
In succession, the droplets, the drops, have run like waters down a slope.
Being purified, they have reached Indra.
Ihm strömten Indu-Tropfen nach, wie Wasser an dem Felsenhang; Geklärt erreichten Indra sie.
Die Somatropfen sind abgeflossen wie die Gewässer stromabwärts; sich läuternd sind sie zu Indra gelangt.
Соки каплями устремились,
Словно воды по склону,
Очищаясь, они достигли Индры.
यमत्य॑मिव वा॒जिनं॑ मृ॒जन्ति॒ योष॑णो॒ दश॑ । वने॒ क्रीळ॑न्त॒मत्य॑विम् ॥
यम् । अत्य॑म्ऽइव । वा॒जिन॑म् । मृ॒जन्ति॑ । योष॑णः । दश॑ । वने॑ । क्रीळ॑न्तम् । अति॑ऽअविम् ॥
अत्यविं दशापवित्रमतिक्रम्य वने अरण्ये क्रीळन्तं वर्तमानं यं सोमं दश दशसंख्याकाः योषणः स्त्रियः। अङ्गुलय इत्यर्थः। तथा च निगमान्तरं - ‘तमीमण्वीः समर्य आ गृभ्णन्ति योषणो दश' (ऋ. सं. ९.१.७ ) इति । वाजिनं बलिनम् अत्यमिव अश्वमिव मृजन्ति परिचरन्ति । उत्तरया सहान्वयः ॥ ॥ २६ ॥
“That which sporting in the wood and spurting beyond the sieve, the ten sisters press, as (men rub down) a strong horse.”
Whom, having passed the filter, ten dames cleanse, as 'twere a vigorous steed,
While he disports him in the wood,-
Whom the ten maidens groom like a prizewinning steed,
him playing in the wood(en vessel), beyond the sheep [=fleece],
Ihn, welchen wie ein schnelles Ross die zehn Jungfrauen reinigen, Der durch die Seihe hüpft ins Holz,
Den die zehn jungen Frauen putzen wie ein preisgewinnendes Roß, der im Holz sich tummelnd durch die Schafwolle rinnt.
Кого, как коня, приносящего награду,
Начищают десять юных жен,
Когда он резвится в деревянном (сосуде, пройдя) сквозь сито.
तं गोभि॒र्वृष॑णं॒ रसं॒ मदा॑य दे॒ववी॑तये । सु॒तं भरा॑य॒ सं सृ॑ज ॥
तम् । गोभिः॑ । वृष॑णम् । रस॑म् । मदा॑य । दे॒वऽवी॑तये । सु॒तम् । भरा॑य । सम् । सृ॒ज॒ ॥
वृषणं कामानां वर्षितारं देववीतये देवानां पानाय मदाय सुतम् अभिषुतं तं रसं भराय संग्रामाय गोभिः पयोभिः सं सृज संयोजय ॥
“That desire-showring liquor, effused for the drink of the gods and for our exhilaration, mix with milk for prowess in battle.”
The steer-strong juice with milk pour forth, for feast and service of the Gods,
To him who bears away the draught.
That bullish sap—merge it with the cows, for exhilaration, for the gods’ pursuit—
the pressed soma for the taking.
Den milchgemischten Trank ergiess, der wie ein Stier mit Kühen eilt, Den Göttern bring' er Rausch beim Mahl.
Lasset den Bullen mit den Kühen zusammen, den Saft, der zum Rausche ausgepreßt ist, zur Götterladung, zur Darbringung!
Этого быка соедини с коровами,
Сок, выжатый для опьянения,
Для приглашения богов, для приношения!
दे॒वो दे॒वाय॒ धार॒येन्द्रा॑य पवते सु॒तः । पयो॒ यद॑स्य पी॒पय॑त् ॥
दे॒वः । दे॒वाय॑ । धार॑या । इन्द्रा॑य । प॒व॒ते॒ । सु॒तः । पयः॑ । यत् । अ॒स्य॒ । पी॒पय॑त् ॥
देवाय द्योतमानाय इन्द्राय सुतः अभिषुतः देवः द्योतमानः सोमः धारया पवते क्षरति । यत् यस्मात् अस्य सोमस्य पयः पीपयत् इन्द्रमाप्यायितवत् । तस्माद्धारया पवत इत्यर्थः ॥
“The divine Soma, when effused, flows to the divine Indra in a stream, since its milk flattens him.”
Effused, the God flows onward with his stream to Indra, to the God,
So that his milk may strengthen him.
The god for the god—pressed, he purifies himself in a stream
for Indra,
when he [=Indra] swells his milk.
Dem Gotte Indra rieselt zu im Strom der Gott, der Somasaft, Damit er nähre seine Kraft.
Der Gott läutert sich mit seinem Strome für Gott Indra ausgepreßt, wann seine Milch quillt.

Выжатый, очищается потоком,
Когда он делает набухшим свое молоко.
आ॒त्मा य॒ज्ञस्य॒ रंह्या॑ सुष्वा॒णः प॑वते सु॒तः । प्र॒त्नं नि पा॑ति॒ काव्य॑म् ॥
आ॒त्मा । य॒ज्ञस्य॑ । रंह्या॑ । सु॒स्वा॒णः । प॒व॒ते॒ । सु॒तः । प्र॒त्नम् । नि । पा॒ति॒ । काव्य॑म् ॥
यज्ञस्य आत्मा आत्मभूतः सुतः अभिषुतः सोमः सुष्वाणः यजमानेभ्यः कामान् प्रेरयन रंह्या वेगेन पवते क्षरति । प्रत्नं पुरातनं काव्यम् आत्मनः कवित्वं च नि पाति अभिरक्षति ॥
“The soul of the sacrifice, the effused Soma, flows; with speed bringing blessings, and maintains his ancient seer-hood.”
Soul of the sacrifice, the juice effused flows quickly on: he keeps
His ancient wisdom of a Sage.
The embodiment of the sacrifice, the pressed soma, having been pressed, purifies himself at speed.
He protects the age-old poetic skill.

Als Opfers Seele rieselt er in Eile, der gepresste Trank, Er schützt die alte Seherkraft.
Die Seele des Opfers, in raschem Laufe ausgepreßt, läutert sich der Ausgepreßte, er wahret die alte Seherweisheit.
Дух жертвы, в быстром беге
Выжатый, очищается сома.
Он охраняет древнее поэтическое искусство.
ए॒वा पु॑ना॒न इ॑न्द्र॒युर्मदं॑ मदिष्ठ वी॒तये॑ । गुहा॑ चिद्दधिषे॒ गिर॑: ॥
ए॒व । पु॒ना॒नः । इ॒न्द्र॒ऽयुः । मद॑म् । म॒दि॒ष्ठ॒ । वी॒तये॑ । गुहा॑ । चि॒त् । द॒धि॒षे॒ । गिरः॑ ॥
हे मदिष्ठ अतिशयेन मदकर सोम इन्द्रयुः इन्द्रकामस्त्वं वीतये इन्द्रस्य पानाय एव एवं मदं पुनानः क्षरन् गुहा गुहायाम् । यज्ञशालायामित्यर्थः । गिरः चित् शब्दानपि दधिषे । अभिषववेलायामुपरवेषु धारयसि । करोषीत्यर्थः ॥ ॥ २७ ॥
“Most exciting (Soma), devoted to Indra, as you pour forth the exhilarating juice for his drinking, you emit sounds in the secret (hall of sacrifice).”
So pouring forth, as Indra's Friend, strong drink, best Gladdener! for the feast,
Thou, even in secret, storest hymns.
In just this way, as you are being purified and seeking Indra, for him to pursue exhilaration, you most exhilarating one,
you make the hymns, though hidden, your own.
Den Indra liebend, so geklärt, zum Mahle, Rausch erregendster, Nimmst du die Lieder in dich auf.
Also dich für Indra läuternd, daß er nach dem Rauschtrank Begehren trage, du Berauschendster, hast du Lobreden, wenn auch nur versteckt.
Так очищаемый, любящий Индру,
О самый пьянящий, чтоб понравилось опьянение,
Хоть и тайно, ты несешь в себе песни.
