देवतापवमानः सोमः

छन्दगायत्री
अ॒या वी॒ती परि॑ स्रव॒ यस्त॑ इन्दो॒ मदे॒ष्वा । अ॒वाह॑न्नव॒तीर्नव॑ ॥
अ॒या । वी॒ती । परि॑ । स्र॒व॒ । यः । ते॒ । इ॒न्दो॒ इति॑ । मदे॑षु । आ । अ॒व॒ऽअह॑न् । न॒व॒तीः । नव॑ ॥
हे इन्दो सोम अया अनेन रसेन वीती वीत्या इन्द्रस्य भक्षणाय परि स्रव परिक्षर । कीदृशेन रसेनेत्यत आह । ते तव यः रसः मदेषु संग्रामेषु नवतीर्नव इति नवनवतिसंख्याकाश्च शत्रुपुरीः अवाहन जघान । अमुं सोमरसं पीत्वा मत्तः सन्निन्द्र उक्तलक्षणाः शत्रुपुरीर्जघानेति कृत्वा रसो जघानेत्युपचारः ॥
“Flow, Indu, for (Indra's) food with that (juice) of yours which in battles overthrow ninety and nine (cities of the foe).”
FLOW onward, Indu, with this food for him who in thy wild delight
Battered the nine-and-ninety down,
Flow around in pursuit (of him) who amid your raptures, o drop, smashed down the nine and ninety—
So ströme nun zum Trunk für den, o Indu, der in deinem Rausch Die neunundneunzig niederschlug,
Mit dieser Einladung kreise um für Indra, der in deinen Räuschen, o Saft, die neunundneunzig Burgen herabschmetterte,

पुरः॑ । स॒द्यः । इ॒थाऽधि॑ये । दिवः॑ऽदासाय । शम्ब॑रम् । अध॑ । त्यम् । तु॒र्वश॑म् । यदु॑म् ॥
सद्यः एकस्मिन्नेवाह्नि पुरः शत्रूणां पुराणि सोमरसोऽवाहन् । इत्थाधिये सत्यकर्मणे दिवोदासाय राज्ञे शम्बरं शत्रुपुराणां स्वामिनम् अध अथ त्यं तं तुर्वशं तुर्वशनामकं राजानं दिवोदासशत्रुं यदुं यदुनामकं राजानं च वशमानयञ्च । अत्रापि सोमरसं पीत्वा मत्तः सन्निन्द्रः सर्वमेतदकार्षीदिति सोमरसे कर्तृत्वमुपचर्यते ॥
“(Which overturned) the cities in a moment, and for the sake of the devout Divodāsa (subdued) Śambara, and then that Turvaśa and Yadu.”
Smote swiftly forts, and gambara, then Yadu and that Turvaga,
For pious Divodasa's sake.
(Smashed down) the strongholds in one day for the one whose thought is to the point, (smashed down) Śambara for Divodāsa,
and as for that Turvaśa and Yadu... .
Die Burgen all' und Çambara, dem frommen Divodasa hold, Und auch den Turvaça Jadu.
An einem Tage die Burgen für Divodasa, der darnach trachtete, und den Sambara zerschmetterte und jeden Turvasa und Yadu-

परि॑ णो॒ अश्व॑मश्व॒विद्गोम॑दिन्दो॒ हिर॑ण्यवत् । क्षरा॑ सह॒स्रिणी॒रिष॑: ॥
परि॑ । नः॒ । अश्व॑म् । अ॒श्व॒ऽवित् । गोऽम॑त् । इ॒न्दो॒ इति॑ । हिर॑ण्यऽवत् । क्षरा॑ । स॒ह॒स्रिणीः । इषः॑ ॥
हे इन्दो सोम अश्ववित् अश्वस्य लम्भकस्त्वं नः अस्माकम् अश्वं गोमत् गोयुक्तं हिरण्यवत् हिरण्योपेतं धनं च परि क्षर । अपि च सहस्रिणीः बहूनि इषः अन्नानि क्षर ॥
“Indu, conqueror of horses, shower forth horses with cattle and gold and unbounded food.”
Finder of horses, pour on us horses and
wealth in kine and gold,
And, Indu, food in boundless store.
Stream around to us horseflesh, as horse-finder, and (wealth) in cattle and gold, o drop,
and thousandfold refreshments.
O ströme Rosse spendend du uns Gut an Ross und Rind und Gold, O Indu, tausend Tränke zu.
Fließe du, Saft, der Rossefinder, uns Roß und Besitz von Rindern und Gold zu und tausendfältige Speisegenüsse!
При(неси) нам, струясь, коня, (ты,) находящий коней,
Владение коровами, о капля, владение золотом!
Принеси, струясь, тысячные услады!
पव॑मानस्य ते व॒यं प॒वित्र॑मभ्युन्द॒तः । स॒खि॒त्वमा वृ॑णीमहे ॥
पव॑मानस्य । ते॒ । व॒यम् । प॒वित्र॑म् । अ॒भि॒ऽउ॒न्द॒तः । स॒खि॒ऽत्वम् । आ । वृ॒णी॒म॒ह्चे ॥
हे सोम पवित्रमभ्युन्दतः पवित्रमभिक्लेदयतः पवमानस्य क्षरतश्च ते तव सखित्वं सख्यं वयम् अमहीयव आङ्गिरसाः आ वृणीमहे प्रार्थयामहे ॥
“We solicit your friendship as you drop flowing over the filter.”
We seek to win thy friendly love, even Pavamana's flowing o'er
The limit of the cleansing sieve.
While you are purifying yourself, while you are flooding the filter, we choose your companionship.

ये । ते॒ । प॒वित्र॑म् । ऊ॒र्मयः॑ । अ॒भि॒ऽक्षर॑न्ति । धार॑या । तेभिः॑ । नः॒ । सो॒म॒ । मृ॒ळ॒य॒ ॥
हे सोम ते तव ये ऊर्मयः तरङ्गाः पवित्रं धारया क्षरन्ति तेभिः तैरूर्मिभिः नः अस्मान् मृळय सुखय ॥ ॥ १८ ॥
“Delight us, Soma, with those your undulations what flow over the filter in a stream.”
With those same waves which in their stream oyerflow the purifying sieve,
Soma; be gracious unto us.
Your waves that flow into the filter in a stream—
with them be gracious to us, Soma.
Mit deinen Wellen, die im Strom hinfliessen auf der Seihe Netz, Mit denen, Soma, sei uns hold,
Deine Wogen, die im Strome sich über die Seihe ergießen, mit denen sei uns gnädig, o Soma!

सः । नः॒ । पु॒ना॒नः । आ । भ॒र॒ । र॒यिम् । वी॒रऽव॑तीम् । इष॑म् । ईशा॑नः । सो॒म॒ । वि॒श्वतः॑ ॥
हे सोम विश्वतः सर्वस्य जगतः ईशानः ईश्वरः सः अभिषुतः पुनानः पूयमानस्त्वं नः अस्मभ्यं रयिं धनं वीरवतीं पुत्राद्युपेतम् इषम् अन्नं च आ भर आहर ॥
“Soma, who are lord over all, the purifier, bring us riches and food with male offspring.”
O Soma, being purified, bring us from all sides,-for thou canst,-
Riches and food with hero sons.
Being purified, bring us wealth and refreshment consisting of heroes, while you hold sway everywhere, o Soma.
So bring uns rieselnder herbei, o Soma, heldenreiches Gut Und Labung, herrschend überall.
Bring uns, während du dich läuterst, Reichtum und das Labsal vieler Söhne, der du vollständig die Macht dazu hast, o Soma!
Принеси нам, очищаясь,
Богатство, усладу, заключающуюся в мужах,
(Ты,) способный (на это), о сома – со всех сторон!
ए॒तमु॒ त्यं दश॒ क्षिपो॑ मृ॒जन्ति॒ सिन्धु॑मातरम् । समा॑दि॒त्येभि॑रख्यत ॥
ए॒तम् । ऊँ॒ इति॑ । त्यम् । दश॑ । क्षिपः॑ । मृ॒जन्ति॑ । सिन्धु॑ऽमातरम् । सम् । आ॒दि॒त्येभिः॑ । अ॒ख्य॒त॒ ॥
सिन्धुमातरं यस्य सोमस्य सिन्धवो नद्यो मातरो भवन्ति त्यं तम् एतम् इमं सोमं दश क्षिपः दशसंख्याका अङ्गुलयः मृजन्ति शोधयन्ति । अपि च सोऽयं सोमः आदित्येभिः आदित्यैः सम् अख्यत संगच्छते ॥
“The ten fingers cleanse this Soma, whose parents are the rivers; he is associated with the Ādityas.”
Him here, the Child whom streams have borne, the ten swift fingers beautify
With the Adityas is he seen.
Just him do the ten fingers groom, him whose mother is the river(s). He has been reckoned among the Ādityas.

Zehn Finger läutern diesen nun, den aus dem Meer entsprungenen, Mit den Aditja's zeigt er sich.
Ihn putzen die zehn Finger, dessen Mutter die Sindhu ist. Er wurde den Aditya´s gleich gerechnet.

सम् । इन्द्रे॑ण । उ॒त । वा॒युना॑ । सु॒तः । ए॒ति॒ । प॒वित्रे॑ । आ । सम् । सूर्य॑स्य । र॒श्मिऽभिः॑ ॥
सुतः अभिषुतः सोमः पवित्रे इन्द्रेण सम् एति संगच्छते । उत अपि च वायुना समेति । सूर्यस्य रश्मिभिः मयूखैरपि सम् एति ॥
“When effused he proceeds to the filter, with Indra and Vāyu, and with the sun's rays.”
With Indra and with Vayu he, effused, flows onward with,the beams
Of Surya to the cleansing sieve.
Pressed, he goes into the filter, uniting with Indra and Vāyu,
uniting with the rays of the sun.

Mit Indra und mit Vaju geht zur Seihe der gepresste hin Und mit der Sonne Strahlen er.
In die Seihe ausgepreßt vereinigt er sich mit Indra und Vayu und mit den Strahlen der Sonne.
Он соединяется с Индрой и Ваю,
Выжатый (сок, который находится) в цедилке,
(Он) со(единяется) с лучами Сурьи.
स नो॒ भगा॑य वा॒यवे॑ पू॒ष्णे प॑वस्व॒ मधु॑मान् । चारु॑र्मि॒त्रे वरु॑णे च ॥
सः । नः॒ । भगा॑य । वा॒यवे॑ । पू॒ष्णे । प॒व॒स्व॒ । मधु॑ऽमान् । चारुः॑ । मि॒त्रे । वरु॑णे । च॒ ॥
हे सोम मधुमान् मधुररसः चारुः कल्याणस्वरूपश्च सः अभिषुतस्त्वं नः अस्माकं यज्ञे भगाय भगाख्याय देवाय वायवे च पूष्णे च मित्रे मित्राय देवाय वरुणे वरुणाय च पवस्व क्षर ॥
“Do you who are sweet-flavoured and beautiful flow (at) our (sacrifice) for Bhaga, Vāyu, Pūṣaṇ, Mitra and Varuṇa”
Flow rich in sweets and lovely for our Bhaga, Vayu, Pusan flow
For Mitra and for Varuna.
Purify yourself for us, honeyed for Bhaga, for Vāyu, for Pūṣan,
dear to Mitra and Varuṇa.

So ströme unserm Bhaga nun, dem Vaju, Puschan honigreich, Dem Varuna und Mitra lieb.
Läutere dich uns, süß für Bhaga, für Vayu und Pusan, dem Mitra und Varuna wohlgefällig!

Для Бхаги, Ваю, Пушана,
Милым для Митры и Варуны!
उ॒च्चा ते॑ जा॒तमन्ध॑सो दि॒वि षद्भूम्या द॑दे । उ॒ग्रं शर्म॒ महि॒ श्रव॑: ॥
उ॒च्चा । ते॒ । जा॒तम् । अन्ध॑सः । दि॒वि । सत् । भूमिः॑ । आ । द॒दे॒ । उ॒ग्रम् । शर्म॑ । महि॑ । श्रवः॑ ॥
हे सोम ते तव संबन्धिनः अन्धसः रसस्य उच्चा उपरि जातं जन्म अपि च दिवि द्युलोके सत् विद्यमानं स्वतस्तव संबन्धि उग्रम उद्गूर्णं शर्म सुखं महि महत् श्रवः अन्नं च भूमिः आ ददे। भूम्या ददे इति पदत्रयमामनन्ति । विसर्जनीयलोपः सांहितिकः । भूमिर्भौमा जना मादृशाः । भूमिष्ठैरादीयत इत्यर्थः ॥ ॥ १९ ॥
“The birth of your juice is on high; the earth has received (your) intense happiness and abundant food, though (these) exist (naturally) in heaven.”
High is thy juice's birth: though set in heaven, on earth it hath obtained
Strong sheltering power and great renown.
It was born high above from your stalk; though it was in heaven, on earth it took for itself
mighty shelter and great fame.
Was oben deinem Saft entsprang im Himmel, hat die Erd' erlangt, Gewalt'gen Schutz und hohen Ruhm.
In der Höhe ist deines Tranks Geburt. Den im Himmel befindlichen Trank nehme ich auf der Erde an mich. Gewaltig ist dein Schutz, groß dein Ruhm.
Высоко рождение твоего сока:
Находясь на небе, он добывается на земле,
Грозна (его) защита, велика слава.
ए॒ना विश्वा॑न्य॒र्य आ द्यु॒म्नानि॒ मानु॑षाणाम् । सिषा॑सन्तो वनामहे ॥
ए॒ना । विश्वा॑नि । अ॒र्यः । आ । द्यु॒म्नानि॑ । मानु॑षाणाम् । सिसा॑सन्तः । व॒ना॒म॒हे॒ ॥
एना एनेनानेन सोमेन मानुषाणां मनुष्याणां विश्वा विश्वानि द्युम्नानि अन्नानि आ अर्यः अभिगच्छन्तः सिषासन्तः संभक्तुमिच्छन्तश्च वयं वनामहे संभजामहे ॥
“By this (Soma) obtaining and desiring to enjoy all the good things that belong to men we enjoy (them).”
Striving to win, with him we gain all wealth from the ungodly man,
Yea, all the glories of mankind.
Seeking to gain all the brilliant things of humans from the stranger, with it we shall win them.

Hier wünschen wir ergebene der Menschen Güter alle uns, Sie zu erlangen streben wir.
Durch ihn sind wir siegreich, die wir alle Herrlichkeiten den Menschen, auch des hohen Herrn, zu gewinnen suchen.
С его помощью мы хотим получить
Все великолепие у чужого, у людей (вообще),
Стремясь к захвату.
स न॒ इन्द्रा॑य॒ यज्य॑वे॒ वरु॑णाय म॒रुद्भ्य॑: । व॒रि॒वो॒वित्परि॑ स्रव ॥
सः । नः॒ । इन्द्रा॑य । यज्य॑वे । वरु॑णाय । म॒रुत्ऽभ्यः॑ । व॒रि॒वः॒ऽवित् । परि॑ । स्र॒व॒ ॥
हे सोम वरिवोवित् धनस्य लम्भकः पवमानस्त्वं नः अस्माकं यज्यवे यष्टव्याय इन्द्राय वरुणाय च मरुद्भ्यः च परि स्रव धारया क्षर ॥
“O you who are the possessor of wealth flow for us, for the adorable Indra, for Varuṇa and the Maruts.”
Finder of room and freedom, flow for Indra whom we must adore,
For Varuna and the Marut host.
Flow around for worshipful Indra, for Varuṇa, for the Maruts,
finding a wide realm for us.

So ströme Segen spendend uns dem hochverehrten Indra nun, Dem Varuna, der Marutschar.
Kreise du für den opferwürdigen Indra, für Varuna und die Marut um, indem du einen Ausweg findest!

Теки кругами, находя широкий простор!
उपो॒ षु जा॒तम॒प्तुरं॒ गोभि॑र्भ॒ङ्गं परि॑ष्कृतम् । इन्दुं॑ दे॒वा अ॑यासिषुः ॥
उपो॒ इति॑ । सु । जा॒तम् । अ॒प्ऽतुर॑म् । गोभिः॑ । भ॒ङ्गम् । परि॑ऽकृतम् । इन्दु॑म् । दे॒वाः । अ॒या॒सि॒षुः॒ ॥
सु जातं सम्यक्प्रादुर्भूतम् अप्तुरं वसतीवरीभिः प्रेरितं भङ्गं शत्रूणां भञ्जकं गोभिः गोविकारैः पयोभिः परिष्कृतम् अलंकृतं संस्कृतम् इन्दुं सोमं देवाः इन्द्रादयः उप अयासिषुः उपागच्छन्ति ।
“The gods approach Indu, (who is) completely genitive rated, sent forth by the waters, the demolisher (of foes), adorned with milk and curds.”
The Gods have come to Indu well-descended, beautified with milk,
The active crusher of the foe.
Up to the one who, just born, crosses the waters, breaking through, adorned by cows—
up to the drop have the gods traveled.

Dem schön gebornen, emsigen Durchbrecher Indu, der mit Milch Gemischt ist, nahn die Götter jetzt.
Zu dem erzeugten Safte, dem Wasserdurchdringer, dem Widerstandbrecher, dem Milchgeschmückten, sind die Götter fein hergekommen.
К соку, пересекающему воды, едва родившись,
Украшенному коровьим (молоком), проламывающему (препятствия),
Прекрасно приблизились боги.
तमिद्व॑र्धन्तु नो॒ गिरो॑ व॒त्सं सं॒शिश्व॑रीरिव । य इन्द्र॑स्य हृदं॒सनि॑: ॥
तम् । इत् । व॒र्ध॒न्तु॒ । नः॒ । गिरः॑ । व॒त्सम् । सं॒शिश्व॑रीःऽइव । यः । इन्द्र॑स्य । हृ॒द॒म्ऽसनिः॑ ॥
यः सोमः इन्द्रस्य हृदंसनिः हृदयस्य संभक्ता भवति तमित् तमेव सोमं नः अस्माकं गिरः स्तुतिरूपा वाचः सं वर्धन्तु सम्यग्वर्धयन्तु । तत्र दृष्टान्तः । वत्सं बालं शिश्वरीरिव । यथा शिश्वर्यो बद्धपयस्का मातरो वत्सं वर्धयन्ति तद्वदित्यर्थः ॥
“May our praises foster him who wins the heart of Indra, as cows who have young ones (foster) their calf.”
Even as mother cows their calf, so let our praise-songs strengthen him,
Yea, him who winneth Indra's heart.
Only him let our hymns strengthen, as (cows) who share their young do a calf— him who gains the heart of Indra.
Ihm bringe Stärkung unser Lied, wie Mutterkühe ihrem Kalb, Ihm, der des Indra Herz gewinnt.
Ihn sollen unsere Reden großziehen wie die Kühe, die zusammen ein Junges haben, ihr Kalb, der des Indra Herzgewinner ist.
Это его пусть усилят наши песни,
Словно (коровы,) имеющие общего малыша-теленка,
(Того,) кто захватывает сердце Индры.
अर्षा॑ णः सोम॒ शं गवे॑ धु॒क्षस्व॑ पि॒प्युषी॒मिष॑म् । वर्धा॑ समु॒द्रमु॒क्थ्य॑म् ॥
अर्ष॑ । नः॒ । सो॒म॒ । शम् । गवे॑ । धु॒क्षस्व॑ । पि॒प्युषी॑म् । इष॑म् । वर्ध॑ । स॒मु॒द्रम् । उ॒क्थ्य॑म् ॥
हे सोम त्वं नः अस्माकं गवे शं सुखम् अर्ष क्षर । अपि च पिप्युषीं प्रवृद्धम् इषम् अन्नं धुक्षस्व पूरय । किंच उक्थ्यं प्रशस्यं समुदम् उदकं वर्ध वर्धय ॥ ॥ २० ॥
“Soma, pour prosperity upon our cattle, milk forth (for us) nutritious food; augment the laudable water.”
Soma, pour blessings on our kine, pour forth the food that streams with milk
Increase the sea that merits laud.
Rush as weal for our cow, Soma; milk out swelling refreshment.
Increase the sea, worthy of hymns.

Heil ström', o Soma, unserm Vieh, ergiesse deinen fetten Trank, Vergrössre das berühmte Meer.
Fließe, o Soma, zum Heil für unser Vieh! Gib strotzende Nahrung als Milch, mehre den preislichen Ozean!

Доись набухшей усладой!
Увеличивай океан, достойный гимна!
पव॑मानो अजीजनद्दि॒वश्चि॒त्रं न त॑न्य॒तुम् । ज्योति॑र्वैश्वान॒रं बृ॒हत् ॥
पव॑मानः । अ॒जी॒ज॒न॒त् । दि॒वः । चि॒त्रम् । न । त॒न्य॒तुम् । ज्योतिः॑ । वै॒श्वा॒न॒रम् । बृ॒हत् ॥
पवमानः सोमः बृहत् महत् वैश्वानरं वैश्वानराख्यं ज्योतिः तेजः दिवः द्युलोकस्य चित्रं विचित्रं तन्यतुं न अशनिमिव अजीजनत् अजनयत् ॥
“The pure (Soma) has genitive rated in heaven the great Vaiśvānara light like the wonderful thunder.”
From heaven hath Pavamana made, as 'twere, the marvellous thunder, and
The lofty light of all mankind.
Purifying himself he has begotten thunder dazzling like that of heaven and the lofty light belonging to all men.
Es hat erzeugt der flammende, des Himmels lautem Donner gleich, Das hehre Licht der Menschenwelt.
Sich läuternd hat er den Donner, grell wie den des Himmels, hervorgebracht, den hohen Lichtglanz des Vaisvanara.

Высокий свет – Вайшванару,
Словно оглушительный гром с неба.

पव॑मानस्य । ते॒ । रसः॑ । मदः॑ । रा॒ज॒न् । अ॒दु॒च्छु॒नः । वि । वार॑म् । अव्य॑म् । अ॒र्ष॒ति॒ ॥
हे राजन् दीप्यमान सोम पवमानस्य क्षरतः ते तव अदुच्छुनः रक्षोवर्जितः मदः मदकरः रसः अव्यम् अविमयं वारं वालं दशापवित्रम् अर्षति अभिगच्छति ॥
“Bright shining Soma, the juice of you, when your flow enters the woollen filter, exhilarating free from evil.”
The gladdening and auspicious juice of thee, of Pavamana, King!
Flows o'er the woollen straining-cloth.
When you are purifying yourself, o king, your sap, the exhilarating drink that brings no misfortune, rushes through the sheep’s fleece.

Dein Saft, dein segensreicher Trank, o König, der du hell erstrahlst, Ergiesst sich durch das Widderhaar.
Dein Saft, wenn du dich läuterst, o König, fließt als heilvoller Rauschtrank durch das Schafhaar.
Сок у тебя, Паваманы,
Опьянение, устраняющее беду, о царь,
Течет через сито из овечьей шерсти.
पव॑मान॒ रस॒स्तव॒ दक्षो॒ वि रा॑जति द्यु॒मान् । ज्योति॒र्विश्वं॒ स्व॑र्दृ॒शे ॥
पव॑मान । रसः॑ । तव॑ । दक्षः॑ । वि । रा॒ज॒ति॒ । द्यु॒ऽमान् । ज्योतिः॑ । विश्व॑म् । स्वः॑ । दृ॒शे ॥
हे पवमान सोम तव त्वदीयः दक्षः वृद्धः द्युमान् दीप्तिमान् रसः वि राजति प्रकाशते । न केवलं स्वयमेव प्रकाशते किंतु विश्वं व्याप्तं स्वः सर्वं ज्योतिः तेजश्च दृशे द्रष्टुं करोतीति शेषः ॥
“Purified Soma, your juice as it increases shines bright; it (makes) a pervading universal light to be seen.”
Thy juice, O Pavamana, sends its rays abroad like splendid skill,
Like lustre, all heaven's light, to see.
Self-purifying one, your potent sap shines forth brilliant,
as light for everyone to see the sun.
Dein Saft, o hell erstrahlender, und deine schöne Kraft erglänzt, Ganz Licht, der Sonne gleich zu schaun.
O Pavamana, dein Saft waltet wirksam, glanzvoll, ist alles Licht, die Sonne zu schauen.

“Flow forth with that juice of yours which is exhilarating, the best gratifying the gods, the slayer of rākṣasas.”
Flow onward with that juice of thine most excellent, that brings delight,
Slaying the wicked, dear to Gods.
Your exhilarating drink that is worthy to be chosen, with that stalk purify yourself,
pursuing the gods, smashing those who utter evil.

हे सोम त्वम् अमित्रियम् अमित्रभवं वृत्रं शत्रुं जघ्निः हन्ता असि भवसि । किंच दिवेदिवे प्रतिदिनं वाजं संग्रामं सस्निः संभक्तासि । किंच गोषाः गवां दातासि । अश्वसाः अश्वानां दाता चासि ॥ ॥ २१ ॥
“You are the slayer of the hostile Vṛtra, the enjoyed of battle day by day, the giver of kine and the giver of horses.”
Killing the foeman and his hate, and winning booty every day,
Gainer art thou of steeds and kine.
Smashing Vr̥tra the hostile, winning the prize every day,
you are a winner of cows and of horses.

हे सोम त्वं सूपस्थाभिः शोभनोपस्थानाभिः धेनुभिः गोभिः । गोविकारैः पयोभिरित्यर्थः । संमिश्लः संमिश्रितः श्येनो न यथा श्येनः शीघ्रमागत्य स्थानमासीदति तद्वत् योनिं स्वकीयं स्थानम् आ सीदन् । न संप्रत्यर्थे । इदानीम् अरुषः आरोचमानः भव ॥
“Be now resplendent, mixed with the supporting (products of the) kine, alighting like a falcon on your plural ce.”
Red-hued, be blended with the milk that seems to yield its lovely breast,
Falcon-like resting in thine home.
Become a ruddy (bull) mingling with milk-cows as if with (ladies) with lovely laps,
sitting like a falcon on your womb.
Mit Kühen misch, o rother, dich die gern dir öffnen ihren Schooss, Und setz' dich wie ein Aar ins Nest.
Werde rötlich, wenn du dich mit den Milchkühen vermischst wie mit Frauen, die einen schönen Schoß haben! Setze dich auf deinen Platz wie ein Falke auf sein Nest!

हे सोम यः त्वं महीः महतीः अपः महान्त्युदकानि वव्रिवांसं निरुन्धानं वृत्राय वृत्रं हन्तवे हन्तुम् इन्द्रम् आविथ अरक्षः सः त्वं पवस्व धारया क्षर । सोमं पीत्वा मत्त: सन्निन्द्रो महान्त्युदकानि निरुन्धानं वृत्रं जघानेत्यर्थः ॥
“Flow you who did help Indra to slay Vṛtra, who obstructed the great waters.”
Flow onward thou who strengthenedst Indra to slaughter Vrtra who
Compassed and stayed the mighty floods.
Purify yourself, you who helped Indra to smash Vr̥tra,
who was obstructing the great waters.
So riesle, der du Beistand gabst dem Indra, dass er Vritra schlug, Der fest die grossen Fluten hielt.
Läutere du dich, der du Indra beigestanden hast, um den Vritra zu erschlagen, welcher die großen Gewässer eingeschlossen hatte.

सुवीरासः सुवीराः कल्याणपुत्राः वयम् अमहीयव आङ्गिरसाः धना शत्रूणां धनानि जयेम । शत्रून् जित्वा तदीयानि धनानि स्वीकुर्यामेत्यर्थः । हे मीढ्वः सेक्तः सोम पुनानः पूयमानस्त्वं नः अस्माकं गिरः स्तुतिरूपा वाचश्च वर्ध वर्धय ॥
“May we, possessed of excellent male offspring, conquer the wealth (of our enemies), O Soma, the sprinkler; being purified, accept our praises.”
Soma who rainest gifts, may we win riches with our hero sons:
Strengthen, as thou art cleansed, our hymns.
Might we of good heroes win the stakes, o Soma the rewarder.
Becoming purified, strengthen our hymns.
Lass heldenreich erbeuten uns, o gnäd'ger Soma, Siegespreis, Gereinigt segne unser Lied.
Wir wollen als Meister Schätze ersiegen, o belohnender Soma. Dich läuternd stärke unsere Lobreden!

“Protected by you, through your protection may we be victorious, slaying (our enemies); be vigilant Soma, at our sacrifices.”
Aided by thee, and through thy grace, may we be slayers when we war:
Watch, Soma, at our solemn rites.
Aided by you, with your help, might we be combative against
hindrances.
O Soma, be watchful over the commandments.
Durch deine Hülfe, deinen Schutz lass schlagen die Verderber uns, Bewach', o Soma, unser Werk.
Von dir unterstützt, mit deinem Beistand wollen wir die Hemmnisse überwinden. O Soma, wache über die Vorschriften!

सोमः मृधः हिंसकाञ्छत्रून् अपघ्नन् मारयन् अराव्णः शक्तौ सत्यां धनानामदातॄंश्च अप घ्नन् इन्द्रस्य निष्कृतं स्थानं गच्छन् प्राप्नुवन् पवते धारया क्षरति ॥ ॥ २२ ॥
“The Soma flows, slaying the malignant, slaying the withholders (of wealth), proceeding to Indra's consecrated (station).”
Chasing our foemen, driving off the godless, Soma flowcth on,
Going to Indra's special place.
Smashing away the scorners, away the ungenerous, Soma purifies himself, going to the rendezvous with Indra.

Indem die bösen Feinde er verjaget, rieselt Soma hell, Hineilend, wo er Indra trifft.

“Bring us, purifier, much wealth; conquer our foes; grant us, Indu, fame and male offspring.”
O Pavamana, hither bring great riches, and destroy our foes:
O Indu, grant heroic fame.
Bring great wealth here to us, self-purifying one; smash the scorners. Give glory in heroes, o drop.

Bring' grosse Schätze uns herbei, die Feinde schlag', o flammender, Gib, Indu, heldenreichen Glanz.
Bring uns große Reichtümer, o Pavamana, erschlage die Verächter; gewähre, o Saft, die Ehre vieler Söhne!

हे सोम राधः धनम् आ दित्सन्तम् आदातुमिच्छन्तं त्वा त्वां शतं चन बहवोऽपि ह्रुतः हिंसकाः शत्रवः न मिनन् न हिंसन्ति । कदेत्यत्राह । यत् यदा पुनानः पूयमानस्त्वं मखस्यसे अस्मभ्यं धनं दातुमिच्छसि । ।
“A hundred foes harm you not, purposing to give wealth when being purified you are benevolently inclined.”
A hundred obstacles have ne'er checked
thee when fain to give thy boons,
When, being cleansed, thou combatest.
A hundred crooks [/wool tufts] will never confound you when you are eager to give largesse,
when you, becoming purified, do battle [/act bounteously].
Selbst hundert Feinde hemmen nicht dich, wenn du Gaben schenken willst, Wenn flammend du den Kampf beginnst.
Dich hindern auch nicht hundert Ränke, wenn du eine Schenkung gewähren willst, wenn du dich läuternd den Freigebigen spielst.

“You, Indu, when effused, the showerer (of benefits) make us celebrated among men; slay all our enemies.”
Indu, flow on, a mighty juice; glorify us among the folk:
Drive all our enemies away.
Purify yourself, o drop, when you, the bull, are pressed. Make us glorious among the people.
Smash away all hatreds.

O Indu riesle, starker Saft, im Volke mache uns berühmt Und jage alle Hasser fort.
Läutere dich, o Saft, wenn du, der Bulle, ausgepreßt bist. Mach uns bei dem Volke angesehen; wehre all die Feinde ab!

Сделай нас блистательными среди народа!

हे इन्दो सोम अस्य अस्मिन् यागे वर्तमानस्य ते तव सख्ये सखित्वे सति वयम् अमहीयव आङ्गिरसा: तव त्वदीये उतमे श्रेष्ठे द्युम्ने अन्ने तृप्तिं प्राप्ता: । तथा च यास्कः-- द्युम्नं द्योततेर्यशो वान्नं वा ' ( निरु, ५. ५) इति । पृतन्यतः युद्धमिच्छतः शत्रून् ससह्याम अभिभवेम ॥
“(Enjoying) the friendship of you here and you excellent food, Indu, may we overcome our assailants.”
Indu, in this thy friendship most lofty and glorious may we
Subdue all those who war with us.
In the companionship of you here, in your highest brilliance, o drop, might we overcome those who do battle.
In deinem Bunde mögen wir, Indu, in deinem höchsten Glanz Besiegen, die uns feindlich sind.
In deiner Freundschaft, in deinem höchsten Glanze, o Saft, wollen wir die Angreifer bezwingen.
В дружбе с тобою таким, (как ты есть),
В твоем высшем блеске, о сок,
Мы хотим одолеть нападающих (на нас)!
या ते॑ भी॒मान्यायु॑धा ति॒ग्मानि॒ सन्ति॒ धूर्व॑णे । रक्षा॑ समस्य नो नि॒दः ॥

हे सोम ते तव या यानि भीमानि शत्रूणां भयंकराणि तिग्मानि तीक्ष्णानि आयुधा आयुधानि धूर्वणे शत्रुवधार्थं सन्ति तैरायुधैः समस्य सर्वस्य शत्रोः निदः निन्दायाः नः अस्मान् रक्ष पालय ॥ ॥ २३ ॥
“With your weapons which are formidable and sharp for slaying (the foe), defend us from the scorn (of our enemies).”
Those awful weapons that thou hast, sharpened at point to strike men down-
Guard us therewith from every foe.
Your fearful sharp weapons, which exist to injure,
(with them) guard us from the insult of anyone at all.
Mit deinen Waffen, welche scharf und furchtbar zum Verwunden sind, Beschütze uns vor jedem Feind.
Die furchtbaren, scharfen Waffen, die du hast, um zu Fall zu bringen, mit denen schütze uns vor dem Tadel eines jeden!
Страшное оружие, острое,
Которое есть у тебя, чтобы сражать,
Защити нас (им) от любой хулы!
