ए॒ष प्र कोशे॒ मधु॑माँ अचिक्रद॒दिन्द्र॑स्य॒ वज्रो॒ वपु॑षो॒ वपु॑ष्टरः । अ॒भीमृ॒तस्य॑ सु॒दुघा॑ घृत॒श्चुतो॑ वा॒श्रा अ॑र्षन्ति॒ पय॑सेव धे॒नव॑: ॥
ए॒षः । प्र । कोशे॑ । मधु॑ऽमान् । अ॒चि॒क्र॒द॒त् । इन्द्र॑स्य । वज्रः॑ । वपु॑षः । वपुः॑ऽतरः । अ॒भि । ई॒म् । ऋ॒तस्य॑ । सु॒ऽदुघाः॑ । घृ॒त॒ऽश्चुतः॑ । वा॒श्राः । अ॒र्ष॒न्ति॒ । पय॑साऽइव । धे॒नवः॑ ॥
एषः अयं सोमः मधुमान् मधुररसः कोशे द्रोणकलशे “ अचिक्रदत् प्रकर्षेण शब्दायते । कीदृश एषः । इन्द्रस्य वज्रः वज्रस्थानीयः । बलकरत्वेन वज्रवत् प्रहरणसधनत्वात् वज्रत्वोपचारः । एष एव हि सोमो वज्र इन्द्रस्य साधने । तथा वपुषः बीजानां वप्तुः अन्यस्मात् वपुष्टरः अतिशयेन वप्ता । बीजवापस्य सोमकर्तृकत्वात् ' सोमो वै रेतोधाः' (तै. सं. २. १. १. ६) इति श्रुतेः । ईम् अस्य ऋतस्य सत्यफलस्य सोमस्य । धारा इति शेषः । ताः अभि अर्षन्ति अभिगच्छन्ति । कीदृश्यस्ताः । सुदुघाः सुष्टुं दोग्ध्यः फलाना घृतश्रुतः उदकस्य रसस्य वा क्षारथियः वाश्राः शब्दयन्त्यः । किमिव । पयसा युक्ता वाश्रः धेनवः इव इति ॥
“The sweet-flavoured beverage sounds in the pitcher, the thunderbolt of Indra, more beautiful than the beautiful; (the stream) of this veracious (Soma) approach yielding much milk, dropping water, lowing like kine (laden) with milk.”
MORE beauteous than the beautiful, as Indra's bolt, this Soma, rich in sweets, hath clamoured in the vat.
Dropping with oil, abundant, streams of sacrifice flow unto him like milch-kine, lowing, with their milk.
This honeyed one has cried out in the bucket, the mace of Indra, more wondrous than any wonder.
The good milkers of truth, dripping with ghee, rush bellowing to him, like milk-cows with their milk.
Jetzt brüllte dieser honigsüsse in dem Fass wie Indra's Blitz, noch schöner als der Schönheit Glanz, Des Opfers Tränke rinnen buttertriefend hin in vollem Strom wie Kühe brüllend mit der Milch.
Dieser Süße hat in der Kufe aufgebrüllt, Indra´s Keule, schaubarer als jedes Schaustück. Zu ihm strömen die gutmelken schmalztriefenden Kühe der Opferordnung, brüllend wie die Kühe mit ihrer Milch.
Этот медовый взревел в сосуде,
Ваджра Инры, чудеснее, чем (само) чудо.
К нему текут хорошо доящиеся (струи коров) (вселенского) закона,
Сочащиеся жиром, как дойные коровы, мычащие со (своим) молоком.
स पू॒र्व्यः प॑वते॒ यं दि॒वस्परि॑ श्ये॒नो म॑था॒यदि॑षि॒तस्ति॒रो रज॑: । स मध्व॒ आ यु॑वते॒ वेवि॑जान॒ इत्कृ॒शानो॒रस्तु॒र्मन॒साह॑ बि॒भ्युषा॑ ॥
सः । पू॒र्व्यः । प॒व॒ते॒ । यम् । दि॒वः । परि॑ । श्ये॒नः । म॒था॒यत् । इ॒षि॒तः । ति॒रः । रजः॑ । सः । मध्वः॑ । आ । यु॒व॒ते॒ । वेवि॑जानः । इत् । कृ॒शानोः । अस्तुः॑ । मन॑सा । अह॑ । बि॒भ्युषा॑ ॥
सः सोमः पूर्व्यः प्रत्नः पवते पूयते । अभिषूयत इत्यर्थः । यं सोमं दिवः द्युलोकात्, श्येनः इषितः स्वमात्रा प्रेषितः सन् परि मथायत् पर्यमथ्नात् तिरः तीर्णं तिरस्कुर्वन् । किम् । रजः तृतीयं लोकम् । सः एव सोमः मध्वः मधुररसं सोमम् आ युवते यौति पृथक्करोति द्युलोकात् । स्वयं वेविजान इत् चलन् अधो गच्छन् कृशानोः सोमपालस्य अस्तुः शरक्षेप्तुः सकाशात् बिभ्युषा भीतेन मनसाह । मध्व आ युवत इति संबन्धः । कृशानोः सोमपालत्वं ब्राह्मणे स्पष्टमुक्तं- कृशानुः सोमपालः सव्यस्य पदः' (ऐ. ब्रा. ३. २६ ) ॥
“The ancient (Soma) flows, which the hawk, despatched (for the purpose), brought down from heaven passing through the (third) world; he detaches the sweet-flavoured (Soma) flying downwards, with mind full of fear of the archer Kṛśānu.”
On flows that Ancient One whom, hitherward, from heaven, sped through the region of the air, the Falcon snatched.
He, quivering with alarm and terrified in heart before bow-armed Krsanu, holdeth fast the sweet.
The primordial one purifies himself—he whom the falcon, propelled across the airy realm, stole from heaven.
Quivering, with a mind fearing Kr̥śānu the archer, it [=falcon] binds on the honey.
Es rieselt hell der alte, den vom Himmel her der Adler holte, schiessend durch den Raum der Luft; Er hält ihn fest, den süssen Trank, ob zitternd auch, im Herzen bebend vor des Bogenspanners Schuss.
Er läutert sich erstmals, den der ausgesandte Falke vom Himmel durch die Lüfte raubte. Er rafft fliehend von der Süßigkeit an sich, mit vor dem Schützen Krisanu bangendem Herzen.
Очищается этот (сома) изначальный, кого с неба
Похитил орел, кинувшийся, пересекая пространство.
Он хватает себе меду, бросаясь прочь,
С сердцем, переполненным страхом перед стрелком Кришану.

ते । नः॒ । पूर्वा॑सः । उप॑रासः । इन्द॑वः । म॒हे । वाजा॑य । ध॒न्व॒न्तु॒ । गोऽम॑ते । ई॒क्षे॒ण्या॑सः । अ॒ह्यः॑ । न । चार॑वः । ब्रह्म॑ऽब्रह्म । ये । जु॒जु॒षुः । ह॒विःऽह॑विः ॥
ते वक्ष्यमाणाः पूर्वासः पूर्वे उपरासः । उपरता अत्रेत्युपराः । तादृशाः इन्दवः सोमाः महे महते गोमते नः मह्यं वाजाय अन्नाय अन्नलाभार्थं धन्वन्तु गच्छन्तु प्राप्नुवन्तु । कीदृशा इन्दवः । ईक्षेण्यासः ईक्षणीयाः संदर्शनीयाः अह्यो न । अह्यः स्त्रिय आहननात् । ता इव सुवेषाः स्त्रिय इव चारवः रमणीयाः । त इत्युक्तं क इत्याह । ये इन्दवः ब्रह्मब्रह्म सर्वमपि स्तावकमन्त्रजातं हविर्हविः सर्वमपि हविर्जातं च जुजुषुः सेवन्ते ॥
“May the former and the latter Soma-juices flow to give us abundant food and milk, plural asing to look upon like beautiful well-adorned (women), which (juices) perform every prayer and every oblation.”
May those first freshest drops of Soma juice effused flow on, their way to bring us mighty strength in kine.
Beauteous as serpents, worthy to be looked upon, they whom each sacred gift and all our prayers have pleased.
Let these drops, those ahead and those behind, run to a great prize of cows for us—
those drops worth looking at, cherished like fertile cows, which take pleasure in every sacred formulation, every oblation.
Die früheren, die spätern Tropfen mögen uns zu rinderreicher grosser Gabe strömen stets, Sie, die wie schöne Schlangen herrlich sind zu schaun, die jedes Opfer und Gebet mit Huld empfahn.
Diese früheren und späteren Säfte sollen für uns zu großem rinderreichem Gewinn rinnen; die sehenswert, wie schöne weibliche Tiere, an jeder feierlichen Rede, an jedem Opfer Freude haben.
Эти первые (и) последующие капли сомы
Пусть текут для нашей великой награды, состоящей из коров,
Достойные внимания, приятные, как коровы-матери,
(Капли,) которые радуются каждому священному слову, каждому возлиянию.

अ॒यम् । नः॒ । वि॒द्वान् । व॒न॒व॒त् । व॒नु॒ष्य॒तः । इन्दुः॑ । स॒त्राचा॑ । मन॑सा । पु॒रु॒ऽस्तु॒तः । इ॒नस्य॑ । यः । सद॑ने । गर्भ॑म् । आ॒ऽद॒धे । गवा॑म् । उ॒रु॒ब्जम् । अ॒भि । अर्ष॑ति । व्र॒जम् ॥
अयम् इन्दुः सोमः नः अस्मान् वनुष्यतः हन्तुमिच्छतः शत्रून् विद्वान् जानन् हन्तुं वनवत् हन्तु तान् । केन साधनेन । सत्राचा सहाञ्चता मनसा । कीदृशः । पुरुष्टुतः बहुभिः स्तुतः । यः सोमः इनस्य ईश्वरस्याग्नेः सदने स्थाने भूमौ वेद्यां वा वर्तमानः गर्भमादधे धारयत्योषधीषु । यश्च गवाम् अस्मदीयानां शत्रुभिरपहृतानाम् उरुब्जं प्रभूतानामपां पयसां जनकं व्रजम् अभ्यर्षति गच्छति । स वनवदिति ॥
“May this Indu, praised of many, knowing those who desire to slay us, slay them with united mind; who being in the dwelling of the lord (Agni) deposits a germ (in the herds) and hastens to (our) milk-giving herd of cattle.”
May that much-lauded Indu, with a heart inclined to us, well-knowing, fight against our enemies.
He who hath brought the germ beside the Strong One's seat moves onward to the widely-opcned stall of kine.
This one here, knowing how, will win against those who seek to win—the drop praised by many with fully focused mind,
who has conceived the embryo in the seat of the powerful one and rushes to the wide-open pen of cows.
Der viel gerühmte Indu überwältige uns alle Feinde mit gespannter Geisteskraft, Der Leibesfrucht gelegt hat in des starken Sitz, und hin zum weiten Stall der Kühe sich ergiesst.
Dieser Saft soll kundig unsere Neider überbieten, von ganzem Herzen vielgepriesen, der am Sitz des Gebieters die Leibesfrucht empfangen hat und auf den geöffneten Pferch der Kühe losstürzt.
Эта капля пусть одержит верх как знаток
Над нашими завистниками, восхваленная многими, с мыслью, устремленная на одно,
(Та,) что восприняла зародыша в сидении могучего (бога)
(И) течет в открывающийся загон с коровами.

चक्रिः॑ । दि॒वः । प॒व॒ते॒ । कृत्व्यः॑ । रसः॑ । म॒हान् । अद॑ब्धः । वरु॑णः । हु॒रुक् । य॒ते । असा॑वि । मि॒त्रः । वृ॒जने॑षु । य॒ज्ञियः॑ । अत्यः॑ । न । यू॒थे । वृ॒ष॒ऽयुः । कनि॑क्रदत् ॥
चक्रिः सर्वस्य कर्ता कृत्व्यः कर्मण्यः रसः रसात्मकः महान् गुणैरधिकः अदब्धः अहिंस्यः हुरुक् कुटिलं यते गच्छते । इतस्ततः परिचरत इत्यर्थः । तदर्थं दिवः सकाशात् पवते पूयते । अन्तरिक्षस्थाद्दशापवित्रादित्यर्थः । किंचासौ सोमः असावि सूयते । कदा । वृजनेषु अरिष्टेषु सत्सु तत्परिहारार्थम् । कीदृशः सः । मित्रः सर्वेषां मित्रभूतः यज्ञियः यष्टव्यः अत्यो न अश्व इव यूथे वडवायूथे स यथा वृषयुः सन् शब्दं करोति तद्वदसौ वृषभो रसस्य वर्षिता कनिक्रदत् शब्दं कुर्वन् असावीति ॥ ॥ २ ॥
“The maker of all, clever in work, the juice, mighty unassailable Varuṇa flows from heaven for the sake of him who go hither and thither; the friend of the adorable (Soma) is effused in affliction uttering a sound like an ardent horse amidst a herd (of mares). [”
The active potent juice of heaven is flowing on, great Varuna whom the forward man can ne'er deceive.
Mitra, the Holy, hath been pressed for troubled times, neighing like an impatient horse amid the herd,
The active, effective sap of heaven purifies himself as great Varuṇa, not to be deceived by one who goes astray.
The one worthy of the sacrifice has been pressed as Mitra in the (ritual) enclosures [/communities], constantly whinnying like a charger acting the bull in the herd.
Vom Himmel rieselt hell der starke thät'ge Saft, dem irrenden ein Führer, gross als Varuna; Erzeugt ist Mitra, in den Stätten Opfers werth, er, brünstig wiehernd in der Heerde wie ein Hengst.
Des Himmels wirksamer, den Sieg entscheidender Saft wird geläutert, der der große unbetörte Varuna für den ist, der krumme Wege wandelt. Der Verehrungswürdige ward als Mitra, als Mittler, unter den Opferparteien ausgepreßt, wiehernd wie ein brünstiger Hengst in der Herde.
Очищается деятельный, действенный сок неба,
Великий безобманный Варуна для того, кто сбивается с пути.
Он выжат как Митра в (наших) общинах, достойных жертв.
Он громко заржал, как пылкий жеребец в стаде.
