असा॑वि॒ सोमो॑ अरु॒षो वृषा॒ हरी॒ राजे॑व द॒स्मो अ॒भि गा अ॑चिक्रदत् । पु॒ना॒नो वारं॒ पर्ये॑त्य॒व्ययं॑ श्ये॒नो न योनिं॑ घृ॒तव॑न्तमा॒सद॑म् ॥
असा॑वि । सोमः॑ । अ॒रु॒षः । वृषा॑ । हरिः॑ । राजाऽइ॑व । द॒स्मः । अ॒भि । गाः । अ॒चि॒क्र॒द॒त् । पु॒ना॒नः । वार॑म् । परि॑ । ए॒ति॒ । अ॒व्यय॑म् । श्ये॒नः । न । योनि॑म् । घृ॒तऽव॑न्तम् । आ॒ऽसद॑म् ॥
सोमः असावि अभिषुतोऽभूत्। कीदृशः सोमः । अरुषः आरोचमानः वृषा वर्षकः हरिः हरितवर्णः । स च राजेव दस्मः दर्शनीयः सन् गाः उदकानि अभिलक्ष्य अचिक्रदत् शब्दं करोति स्वरसनिर्मोकसमये । पश्चात् पुनानः पूयमानः अव्ययम् अविमयं वारं वालं दशापवित्रं पर्येति । ततः श्येनो न श्येन इव योनिं स्वकीयं स्थानं घृतवन्तम् उदकवन्तम् आसदम् आसदनाय पवत इति शेषः ॥
“The Soma has been effused radiant, the showerer, green-inted; magnificent as a king, he cries aloud when approaching the waters; purified, he passes through the sheep's fleece, to alight on the water-moistened seat like a hawk (on its nest).”
EVEN as a King hath Soma, red and tawny Bull, been pressed: the Wondrous One hath bellowed to the kine.
While purified he passes through the filtering fleece to seat him hawk-like on the place that drops with oil.
Soma has been pressed—the ruddy, tawny bull. Wondrous like a king, he has roared to the cows.
While being purified, he circles around the sheep’s fleece, to sit, like a falcon, on his ghee-filled womb.
Erzeugt ist Soma, er, der rothe, goldne Hengst gleich kräft'gem König schrie er jetzt die Kühe an, Sich klärend geht er durch die Widderwolle hin, zu setzen sich dem Adler gleich aufs reiche Nest.
Ausgepreßt ward der rötliche Soma, der starke Falbe. Ein Meister gleich einem König hat er nach Kühen gebrüllt. Während er sich klärt, umkreist er das Schafhaar, um sich auf den schmalzigen Schoß zu setzen wie ein Falke ins Nest.
Выжат сома красноватый, бык золотистый.
Словно царь замечательный, он взревел навстречу коровам.
Очищаясь, он проходит сквозь сито из овечьей шерсти,
Чтобы сесть на (свое) лоно, полное жира, словно сокол ( – в гнездо).
क॒विर्वे॑ध॒स्या पर्ये॑षि॒ माहि॑न॒मत्यो॒ न मृ॒ष्टो अ॒भि वाज॑मर्षसि । अ॒प॒सेध॑न्दुरि॒ता सो॑म मृळय घृ॒तं वसा॑न॒: परि॑ यासि नि॒र्णिज॑म् ॥
क॒विः । वे॒ध॒स्या । परि॑ । ए॒षि॒ । माहि॑नम् । अत्यः॑ । न । मृ॒ष्टः । अ॒भि । वाज॑म् । अ॒र्ष॒सि॒ । अ॒प॒ऽसेध॑न् । दुः॒ऽइ॒ता । सो॒म॒ । मृ॒ळ॒य॒ । घृ॒तम् । वसा॑नः । परि॑ । या॒सि॒ । निः॒ऽनिज॑म् ॥
हे सोम कविः क्रान्तदर्शी सन् वेधस्या यागविधानेच्छया माहिनं मंहनीयं पवित्रं पर्येषि परिगच्छसि । पश्चात् मृष्टः प्रक्षालितः अत्यो न अश्व इव वाजं संग्रामम् अभि अर्षसि । हे सोम दुरिता अस्माकं दुरितानि अपसेधन परिहरन् मृळय सुखय । घृतम् उदकं वसानः आच्छादयन् परि यासि अभिगच्छसि । किम् । निर्णिजं निर्णेजकं पवित्रम् ॥
“You, who are wise, pass through the adorable (filter) with a desire to perform the sacrifice; being cleansed you rush like a horse to the cattle. Driving away misfortunes be gracious (to us), Soma; clothed in water you proceed to the cleansing (vessel).”
To glory goest thou, Sage with disposing skill, like a groomed steed thou rusbest forward to the prize.
O Soma, be thou gracious, driving off distress: thou goest, clothed in butter, to a robe of state.
As a poet with ritual expertise, you circle around the great (filter). Groomed like a steed, you rush to the prize.
Warding off difficulties, o Soma, be merciful. Wearing ghee as your
raiment, you drive around.
Du weiser gehst mit Eifer durch das weite Netz, gestriegelt wie ein Renner eilst du zu dem Preis; Verjagend, Soma, die Gefahren, sei uns hold, in Fett gekleidet gehst du durch dein Schmuckgewand.
Ein Seher an Meisterschaft umkreisest du die umfängliche Seihe. Wie ein Roß sauber gemacht eilst du auf den Siegerpreis los. Die Fährlichkeiten beseitigend sei barmherzig, Soma! In Schmalz als dein Festgewand dich kleidend kreisest du um.
Поэт по (своему) умению, ты движешься кругами по огромной (цедилке).
Начищенный, словно конь, ты течешь к награде.
Помилуй, о сома, устраняя трудности!
Ты делаешь круги, рядясь в жир как в праздничный наряд.

प॒र्जन्यः॑ । पि॒ता । म॒हि॒षस्य॑ । प॒र्णिनः॑ । नाभा॑ । पृ॒थि॒व्याः । गि॒रिषु॑ । क्षय॑म् । द॒धे॒ । स्वसा॑रः । आपः॑ । अ॒भि । गाः । उ॒त । अ॒स॒र॒न् । सम् । ग्राव॑ऽभिः । न॒स॒ते॒ । वी॒ते । अ॒ध्व॒रे ॥
यस्य महिषस्य महतः पर्णिनः पर्णवतः पतनवतो वा सोमस्य पर्जन्यः पिता जनकः स सोमः पृथिव्याः नाभा नाभौ नाभिस्थानीये हविर्धाने गिरिषु गिरिसंबन्धिग्रावसु क्षयं निवासं दधे धारयत्यभिषवसमये । उत अपि च स्वसारः अङ्गुलयः आपः वसतीवर्यः गाः आशिरार्थाः स्तुतयो वा अभि असरन् अभिसरन्ति । सं नसते संगच्छते च ग्रावभिः साकम् । कुत्र । वीते कान्ते अध्वरे यज्ञे ॥
“The mighty winged (Soma) whose father is Parjanya has plural ced his dwelling on the navel of the earth among the mountains; the sisters, the waters flow to (the produce of) the kine; he meets with the stones at the beloved sacrifice.”
Parjanya is the Father of the Mighty Bird: on mountains, in earth's centre hath he made his home.
The waters too have flowed, the Sisters, to the kine: he meets the pressing-stones at the beloved rite.
Parjanya is the father of the feathered [/leafy] buffalo. In the navel of the earth, on the mountains he has established his dwelling place.
The sister waters have also flowed to the cows. He will unite with the stones when the ceremony is undertaken.
Des grossen Adlers Vater ist das Blitzgewölk; im Schooss der Erde, auf den Bergen nahm er Platz, Die Wasser, seine Schwestern, rannen hin zur Milch, und mit den Steinen buhlt er bei dem Opferwerk.
Parjanya ist der Vater des befiederten, des belaubten Büffels; im Mittelpunkt der Erde, auf den Bergen hat er seinen Wohnsitz genommen. Auch die verschwisterten Gewässer sind zu den Kühen geeilt. Mit den Steinen kommt er in Berührung, wenn das Opfer zugerichtet ist.
Парджанья – отец буйвола крылатого.
На пупе земли, в горах он устроил себе жилье.
Сестры-воды тоже поспешили к коровам.
Он обнимается с давильными камнями, когда подготовлен обряд.
जा॒येव॒ पत्या॒वधि॒ शेव॑ मंहसे॒ पज्रा॑या गर्भ शृणु॒हि ब्रवी॑मि ते । अ॒न्तर्वाणी॑षु॒ प्र च॑रा॒ सु जी॒वसे॑ऽनि॒न्द्यो वृ॒जने॑ सोम जागृहि ॥
जा॒याऽइ॑व । पत्यौ॑ । अधि॑ । शेव॑ । मं॒ह॒से॒ । पज्रा॑याः । ग॒र्भ॒ । शृ॒णु॒हि । ब्रवी॑मि । ते॒ । अ॒न्तः । वाणी॑षु । प्र । चा॒र॒ । सु । जी॒वसे॑ । अ॒नि॒न्द्यः । वृ॒जने॑ । सो॒म॒ । जा॒गृ॒हि॒ ॥
जायेव पत्यौ जाया यथा स्वभार्यां भर्तरि सुखं प्रयच्छति तद्वत् शेव शेवम्। द्वितीयाया अम्भावाभावश्छान्दसः । सुखं मंहसे प्रयच्छसि यजमाने । हे पज्राया गर्भं सोम शृणुहि शृणु स्तुतीर्याः ते तुभ्यं ब्रवीमि । पजिर्गतिकर्मा । पज्रा पृथिवीत्याहुः । अपि वा माध्यमिका वाक् पज्रा । भूमावोषधिरूपेण जातवात्तद्गर्भत्वम् । माध्यमिकाया वाचोऽपि वृष्टिसाधनत्वात् तत्पुत्रत्वम् । स त्वं वाणीषु वाक्षु स्तुतिषु अन्तः मध्ये सु सुष्ठु प्र चर जीवसे अस्माकं जीवनाय ।
“As a wife to her husband, so you (afford) delight to your worshipper; (Soma), offspring of Pajra, listen (to the praises) I address to you; in the midst of our adorations advance to grant us life; Soma, who are irreproachable, be vigilant against (our) foe.”
Thou givest pleasure as a wife delights her lord. Listen, O Child of Pajri, for to thee I speak.
Amid the holy songs go on that we may live: in time of trouble, Soma, watch thou free from blame.
(Kindly) like a wife to her husband, you, kindly one, are generous of yourself. O embryo of the steadfast (earth?), listen: I am speaking to you: amid the choir I shall advance to good living. O Soma, irreproachable, be watchful in the ritual enclosure [/community].
Wie beim Gemahl die Gattin bist du froh, o lieblicher, o Sohn der feisten, höre, denn ich sprech' zu dir, Zum Leben schreite unter Klängen munter vor, sei wach, o Soma, hier beim Feste tadellos.
Freundlich wie die Gattin gegen den Gatten gibst du Freundlicher dich willig hin. O Kind der Pajra, höre zu, ich sage dir: Unter Gesangesstimmen zieh in uns ein zum Leben! Wache untadelhaft über dem Opferbund, o Soma!
О (сома) дружелюбный, ты проявляешь щедрость, как жену к мужу.
О зародыш Паджры, слушай – я говорю тебе:
Под музыку (голосов) упорно продвигайся вперед внутри (нас), чтобы мы жили!
Безупречный, бодрствуй в общине, о сома!
यथा॒ पूर्वे॑भ्यः शत॒सा अमृ॑ध्रः सहस्र॒साः प॒र्यया॒ वाज॑मिन्दो । ए॒वा प॑वस्व सुवि॒ताय॒ नव्य॑से॒ तव॑ व्र॒तमन्वाप॑: सचन्ते ॥
यथा॑ । पूर्वे॑भ्यः । श॒त॒ऽसाः । अमृ॑ध्रः । स॒ह॒स्र॒ऽसाः । प॒रि॒ऽअयाः॑ । वाज॑म् । इ॒न्दो॒ इति॑ । ए॒व । प॒व॒स्व॒ । सु॒वि॒ताय॑ । नव्य॑से । तव॑ । व्र॒तम् । अनु॑ । आपः॑ सचन्ते ॥
हे इन्दो सोम त्वं यथा पूर्वेभ्यः महर्षिभ्यः स्तोतृभ्यः शतसाः शतसंख्याकस्य धनस्य दाता तथा सहस्रसाः च सन् पर्ययाः परिगच्छेः एव एवमिदानीमपि नव्यसे नवतराय सुविताय अभ्युदयाय पवस्व क्षर। तव व्रतं कर्म अन्वापः वसतीवर्यः सचन्ते। अतः पवस्व ॥ ॥ ७ ॥
“As you, Indu, did attain strength for the ancient (ṛṣis), giving them hundred-fold (wealth), invulnerable, giving them thousand-fold (wealth); so now flow for (our) modern prosperity; the waters wait upon your functions.”
As to the men of old thou camest, Indu unharmed, to strengthen, winning hundreds, thousands,
So now for new felicity flow onward: the waters follow as thy law ordaineth.
Just as for the earlier ones you encompassed the prize as a winner of hundreds, of thousands, not shirking, o drop,
so purify yourself for renewed good progress. The waters follow your commandment.
Wie hundertfach und tausendfach den Vätern du Labung schafftest, Indu, unermüdlich, So riesle nun zu neuem Wohlergehen, auch die Gewässer folgen deinem Willen.
Wie du für die Vorfahren Hundert und Tausend gewinnend, nie zurückstehend den Siegespreis einholtest, o Saft, so läutere dich zu erneuter Wohlfahrt! Deinem Geheiß folgen die Gewässer.
Как для предков – неустанный покоритель сотен,
Покоритель тысяч – ты добивался награды, о сок,
Так очищайся для новой удачи!
Твоему завету следуют воды.
