प्र तु द्र॑व॒ परि॒ कोशं॒ नि षी॑द॒ नृभि॑: पुना॒नो अ॒भि वाज॑मर्ष । अश्वं॒ न त्वा॑ वा॒जिनं॑ म॒र्जय॒न्तोऽच्छा॑ ब॒र्ही र॑श॒नाभि॑र्नयन्ति ॥
प्र । तु । द्र॒व॒ । परि॑ । कोश॑म् । नि । सी॒द॒ । नृऽभिः॑ । पु॒ना॒नः । अ॒भि । वाज॑म् । अ॒र्ष॒ । अश्व॑म् । न । त्वा॒ । वा॒जिन॑म् । म॒र्जय॑न्तः । अच्छ॑ । ब॒र्हिः । र॒श॒नाभिः॑ । न॒य॒न्ति॒ ॥
हे सोम तु क्षिप्रं प्र द्रव प्रगच्छ । गत्वा च कोशं द्रोणकलशं परि नि षीद निषण्णो भव । नृभिः नेतृभिः पुनानः पूयमानः वाजम् अन्नं यजमानार्थमुद्दिश्य अभि अर्ष अभिगच्छ । वाजिनं बलवन्तम् अश्वं न अश्वमिव तं यथा मार्जयन्ति तद्वत् वाजिनं त्वां मार्जयन्तः शोधयन्तः बर्हिः यज्ञम् अच्छ प्रति रशनाभिः रशनावदायताभिरङ्गुलीभिः नयन्ति अध्वर्युप्रमुखाः ॥
“Flow fast (Soma), sit down on the receptacle, purified by the priests hasten (showing) food (to the sacrificer); cleansing you like a strong horse, they guide you with (their fingers for) reins to the sacred grass.”
RUN onward to the reservoir and seat thee: cleansed by the men speed forward to the battle.
Making thee beauteous like an able courser, forth to the sacred grass with reins they lead thee.
Run forth around the cask; sit down; being purified by men, rush to the prize.
Grooming you like a prizewinning horse, they lead you toward the ritual grass with reins.
Auf, ströme vor und setze in den Krug dich, geklärt von Männern renne zu dem Ziel hin; Sie führen, striegelnd wie ein schnelles Ross dich, hin zu der Streu dich, wie mit Zügeln lenkend.
Laufe doch voran rings um die Kufe, nimm darin Platz, von den Männern geläutert rinne nach dem Siegerpreis! Sie, die dich wie ein preisgewinnendes Roß putzen, führen dich am Zügel zum Barhis.

स्वायुधः शोभनायुधः इन्दुः सोमः देवः पवते । स च देवः अशस्तिहा रक्षोहा वृजनम् उपद्रवं रक्षमाणः पिता पालकः देवानां तथा जनिता उत्पादकः सुदक्षः सुबलः दिवः विष्टम्भः विशेषेण स्तम्भयिता पृथिव्याः च धरुण धारकः । एवंमहानुभावः पवते ॥
“The divine, Indu well-armed flows forth, the destroyer of rākṣasas, averting calamity, the protector of the gods, the progenitor, the powerful one, the prop of heaven, the support of the earth.”
Indu, the well-armed God, is flowing onward, who quells the curse and guards from treacherous onslaught,
Father, begetter of the Gods, most skilful, the buttress of the heavens and earth's supporter.
He of good weapons, the god, the drop purifies himself, smiting
malediction, protecting the community,
the father, begetter of the gods, possessing good skill, prop of heaven, buttress of the earth.
Gott Indu flammt, bewehrt mit guten Waffen, den Bösen tödtend, die Gemeinde schützend, Der Götter starker Vater und Erzeuger, des Himmels Pfeiler und der Erde Stütze.
Wohlbewaffnet läutert sich der göttliche Saft, die Afterreden niederschlagend, den Opferbund schützend, der Vater und verständige Erzeuger der Götter, des Himmels Stütze, der Träger der Erde;
Хорошо вооруженный, очищается бог, сок (сомы),
Убивая злоречивых, охраняя общину,
Отец богов, родитель, прекрасно действующий,
Столп неба, опора земли.

ऋषिः॑ । विप्रः॑ । पु॒रः॒ऽए॒ता । जना॑नाम् । ऋ॒भुः । धीरः॑ उ॒शना॑ । काव्ये॑न । सः । चि॒त् । वि॒वे॒द॒ । निऽहि॑तम् । यत् । आ॒सा॒म् । अ॒पी॒च्य॑म् । गुह्य॑म् । नाम॑ । गोना॑म् ॥
ऋषिः अतीन्द्रियद्रष्टा विप्रः मेधावी पुरएता पुरतो गन्ता जनानां मनुष्याणाम् ऋभुः उरु भासमानः धीरः धीमान् उशना एतन्नामर्षिः यः स चित् स एव काव्येन कवित्वेन स्तोत्रेण विवेद लभते । किम् । यदासां गोनां गवाम् अपीच्यम् । अन्तर्हितनामैतत् । अन्तर्हितं गुह्यं गोपनीयं नाम नामकमुदकं पयोलक्षणम् ॥
“The ṛṣi, the sage, the foremost of men, the far-shining intelligent Uṣanas-- he verily by his poetic gift discovered the secret milk of those cows which was hidden and concealed.”
Rsi and Sage, the Champion of the people, cleft and sagacious, Usana in wisdom,
He hath discovered even their hidden nature, the Cows' concealed and most mysterious title.
Seer, inspired poet, going in front of the people, an insightful craftsman [/R̥bhu], Uśanā in poetic skill—
only he found what of theirs was deposited, the secret, hidden name of the cows.
Der weise Sänger und der Menschen Führer, der kluge Künstler, Uçana an Weisheit; Er fand der Kühe tiefverborgnes Wesen, das einst in sie geheimnissvoll gelegt war.
Der redefertige Rishi, der Völker Anführer, ein kundiger Ribhu, ein Werkmeister, an Sehergabe ein Usanas: er entdeckte, was von ihnen versteckt war, der Kühe verborgenen, geheimen Namen.
Риши, вдохновенный (поэт), идущий впереди людей,
Умелый мастер, Ушанас по поэтической силе,
Он обнаружил также (то,) что спрятано у этих (коров) -
Скрытое, тайное имя коров.

ए॒षः । स्यः । ते॒ । मधु॑ऽमान् । इ॒न्द्र॒ । सोमः॑ । वृषा॑ । वृष्णे॑ । परि॑ । प॒वित्रे॑ । अ॒क्षा॒रिति॑ । स॒ह॒स्र॒ऽसाः । श॒त॒ऽसाः । भू॒रि॒ऽदावा॑ । श॒श्व॒त्ऽत॒मम् । ब॒र्हिः । आ । वा॒जी । अ॒स्था॒त् ॥
हे इन्द्र वृष्णे वर्षकाय ते तुभ्यम् एष स्यः सः सोमः मधुमान् माधुर्योपेतः वृषा वर्षकः पवित्रे परि अक्षाः परिक्षरति । क्षरतेर्लुङि रूपम् । स एव सहस्रसाः सहस्रसंख्याकधनस्य दाता शतसाः शतसंख्याकस्य दाता भूरिदावा ततोऽपि भूरेर्दाता वाजी बलवान् शश्वत्तमं नित्यं बर्हिः यज्ञम् आ अस्थात् अतिष्ठति ॥
“For you, Indra, the showerer, this sweet-flavoured Soma the showerer has been poured into the filter; the giver of thousand-fold wealth, the giver of hundred-fold wealth, the giver of abundant wealth, the powerful is present at the eternal sacrifice.”
This thine own Soma rich in meath, O Indra, Steer for the Steer, hath flowed into the filter.
The strong Free-giver, winning hundreds, thousands, hath reached the holy grass that never fails him.
This very one, honeyed Soma, has flowed for you, Indra, a bull for a bull, around in the filter.
Thousand-winning, hundred-winning, much-giving, the prizewinner has mounted the ritual grass ever and always.
Schon rann, o Indra, dieser süsse Soma, dem Stiere dir, der Stier hin durch die Seihe; Der hundert, tausend, viele Güter schenket, ist hingeeilt zum stets erneuten Streusitz.
Dieser versüßte Soma ist für dich, Indra, der Bulle für den Bullen in der Seihe herumgeflossen, Tausend gewinnend, Hundert gewinnend, vielschenkend hat der Preisgewinner zum vielten Male das Barhis erstiegen.
Вот этот сома, богатый медом, о Индра,
Потек для тебя кругами по цедилке, бык – для быка.
Добывающий тысячи, добывающий сотни, много дающий,
Завоеватель награды в который раз вступил на жертвенную солому.
ए॒ते सोमा॑ अ॒भि ग॒व्या स॒हस्रा॑ म॒हे वाजा॑या॒मृता॑य॒ श्रवां॑सि । प॒वित्रे॑भि॒: पव॑माना असृग्रञ्छ्रव॒स्यवो॒ न पृ॑त॒नाजो॒ अत्या॑: ॥
ए॒ते । सोमाः॑ । अ॒भि । ग॒व्या । स॒हस्रा॑ । म॒हे । वाजा॑य । अ॒मृता॑य । श्रवां॑सि । प॒वित्रे॑भिः । पव॑मानाः । अ॒सृ॒ग्र॒न् । श्र॒व॒स्यवः॑ । न । पृ॒त॒नाजः॑ । अत्याः॑ ॥
एते सोमाः गव्या गव्यानि सहस्रा सहस्राणि श्रवांसि अन्नानि आशिरलक्षणानि लक्षीकृत्य पवित्रेभिः पवित्रच्छिद्रैः पवमानाः पूयमानाः महे महते वाजाय अन्नाय अमृताय अमृतत्वाय अभि असृग्रन् सृज्यन्ते । किमिव । श्रवस्यवः अन्नेच्छवः पृतनाजः सेनाजेतारः अत्याः न अश्वा इव ॥ ॥ २२ ॥
“These Soma-juices, (going towards) the thousand viands produced by the kine, purified, by the filters, are let loose for ample food and ambrosia, desiring food like horses victorious over a host.”
These Somas are for wealth of countless cattle, renown therefor, and mighty strength immortal.
These have been sent forth, urified by strainers, like steeds who rusg to battle fain for glory.
These soma drinks have been sent surging toward bovine thousands, toward acclamations, for great immortal reward,
being purified by the filters—like fame-seeking steeds driving to battle.
Zu tausend Kühen sind entsandt die Soma's, zum Ruhm, zu grosser unerschöpfter Labung, Hinrieselnd durch die Seihen wie ein Renner, der preisbegierig zu dem Wettkampf eilet.
Diese Somasäfte sind auf die Tausende von Kühen losgelassen worden, auf die Ruhmespreise zu großem unsterblichen Gewinn wie ehrgeizige wettkämpfende Rennpferde, durch die Seihen sich läuternd.
Эти соки сомы (выпущены) на тысячу коров,
На славные дела ради великой бессмертной награды,
Они потекли, очищаясь на цедилке,
Словно жаждущие славы скакуны, которых гонят в бой.

परि॑ । हि । स्म॒ । पु॒रु॒ऽहू॒तः । जना॑नाम् । विश्वा॑ । अस॑रत् । भोज॑ना । पू॒यमा॑नः । अथ॑ । आ । भ॒र॒ । श्ये॒न॒ऽभृ॒त॒ । प्रयां॑सि । र॒यिम् । तुञ्जा॑नः । अ॒भि । वाज॑म् । अ॒र्ष॒ ॥
अयं परि असरत् परिसरति जनानाम् अर्थाय विश्वा सर्वाणि भोजना भोजनान्यन्नानि धनानि वा । कीदृशः। पुरुहूतः बहुभिराहूतः पूयमानः शोध्यमानः । अथ प्रत्यक्षकृतः । अथ इदानीं हे श्येनभृत श्येनेनाहृत सोम त्वं प्रयांसि अन्नानि आ भर आहर । रयिं धनं तुञ्जानः ददानः वाजम् अन्नं रसम् अभि अर्ष अभिगच्छ ॥
“Invoked by many, the Soma, undergoing purification, pours forth all food (for the sake of men); falcon-borne, bring us food, conveying wealth send forth your juice.”
He, while he cleanses him, invoked of many, hath flowed to give the people all enjoyment.
Thou whom the Falcon brought, bring, dainty viands, bestir thyself and send us wealth and booty.
Because, much invoked of the peoples, he has flowed around all
nourishments while being purified—
now bring pleasurable things, you falcon-brought one; thrusting out
wealth, rush to the prize.
Denn viel gerufen von den Menschen rann er um alle Nahrung rings der hell geklärte; So bring' uns nun, vom Aar getragner! Wonne, und ströme eilend Reichthum her und Nahrung.
Während er geläutert ward, hat ja der Vielgerufene der Völker alle Genüsse eingekreist. Nun bringe uns, du Falkengebrachter, Labsale! Reichtum herausschlagend rinne nach dem Siegespreis!
А ведь этот многопризываемый среди народов,
Струясь, окружил все наслаждения, пока (его) очищают.
Принеси же (нам) жертвенные услады, о принесенный орлом!

ए॒षः । सि॒वा॒नः । परि॑ । सोमः॑ । प॒वित्रे॑ । सर्गः॑ । न । सृ॒ष्टः । अ॒द॒धा॒व॒त् । अर्वा॑ । ति॒ग्मे । शिशा॑नः । म॒हि॒षः । न । शृङ्गे॑ । गाः । ग॒व्यन् । अ॒भि । शूरः॑ । न । सत्वा॑ ॥
एष सुवानः सूयमानः अर्वा अरणकुशलः सोमः सर्गो न सृष्टः विसृष्टोऽश्व इव पवित्रे परि अदधावत् परिधावति । किंच तिग्मे तीक्ष्णे शृङ्गे शिशानः तीक्ष्णीकुर्वन् महिषो न महान् महिषाख्यो मृग इव । तथान्यदृष्टान्तः। गा गव्यन् प्रभूता गा इच्छन् शूरो न शूर इव । एतौ महिषशूरौ यथा प्रतिबुद्धौ शीघ्रं धावतः तद्वत् सत्वा सदनशीलोऽयं गच्छतीति शेषः ॥
“When effused, this quick-flowing Soma hastens to the filter like a steed let loose; while alighting he moves like a buffalo sharpening his pointed horns, like a warrior on a foray for cattle.”
This Soma, pressed into the cleansing filter, hath run as 'twere a host let loose, the Courser;
Like a strong bull who whets his horns kpen-pointed, like a brave warrior in the fray for cattle.
This Soma being pressed, the steed like a surge sent surging, has run around in the filter,
whetting his sharp horns like a buffalo, on a cow-hunt toward cows, like a champion warrior.
Schon lief gepresst der Soma durch die Seihe, gleichwie entsandte Wagenschar, wie Renner, Gleich einem Büffel scharf die Hörner wetzend, um Kühe kampfend wie ein tapfrer Kriegsheld.
Dieser Soma schoß ausgepreßt in der Seihe herum, das Rennpferd wie ein losge-lassenes Rennen, wie ein Büffel seine spitzen Hörner wetzend, auf die Kühe los, nach Kühen verlangend, wie ein tapferer Krieger.
Этот выжатый сома побежал кругами
По цедилке, скакун, подобный выпущенному порыву,
Оттачивая острые рога, словно буйвол,
Желая коров (и бросаясь) на коров, (этот) храбрый воин.
ए॒षा य॑यौ पर॒माद॒न्तरद्रे॒: कूचि॑त्स॒तीरू॒र्वे गा वि॑वेद । दि॒वो न वि॒द्युत्स्त॒नय॑न्त्य॒भ्रैः सोम॑स्य ते पवत इन्द्र॒ धारा॑ ॥
एषा । य॒यौ॒ । प॒र॒मात् । अ॒न्तः । अद्रेः॑ । कूऽचि॑त् । स॒तीः । ऊ॒र्वे । गाः । वि॒वे॒द॒ । दि॒वः । न । वि॒ऽद्युत् । स्त॒नय॑न्ती । अ॒भ्रैः । सोम॑स्य । ते॒ । प॒व॒ते॒ । इ॒न्द्र॒ । धारा॑ ॥
एषा सोमधारा परमात् उच्छ्रितात् स्थानात् ययौ जगाम पात्रं स्वयंप्राप्तव्यं देशं वा । किंच अद्रेः पणीनां निवासस्थानस्य पर्वतस्य अन्तः कूचित् क्वचित् कुत्रचिद्गूढे ऊर्वे देशे सतीः वर्तमानाः पणिभिरपहृताः गाः विवेद लब्धवती । यत्र पणयो गा अपहृत्य स्थापितवन्तः स देश ऊर्वः। 'ऊर्वं गव्यं महि गृणानः' (ऋ. सं. ६,१७,१ ) इति हि मन्त्रान्तरम् । दिवो न विद्युत् दिवः सकाशाद्विद्युदिव स्तनयन्ती शब्दयन्ती । विद्युत् विशेष्यते । अभ्रैः प्रेरितेति शेषः । सा यथा शब्दं करोति तद्वच्छब्दं कुर्वती । सोमस्य संबन्धिनी सेयं धारा हे इन्द्र ते त्वदर्थं त्वत्पानाय पवते पूयते । क्षरति वा ॥
“This Soma stream has come from on high and has detected the cattle which were in a stall (hidden) somewhere within the mountain; the stream of the Soma flows for you, Indra, thundering like lightning emitted by the clouds from heaven.”
He issued forth from out the loftiest mountain, and found kine hidden somewhere in a stable.
Soma's stream clears itself for thee, O Indra, like lightning thundering through the clouds of heaven,
This one traveled from within the highest stone [=mountain]; she found the cows that were somewhere in the enclosure.
Like lightning from heaven thundering with the clouds, the stream of soma purifies itself for you, Indra.
Er ist entsprungen aus dem höchsten Pressstein; im Stall die Kühe fand er überall auf, Wie Blitz des Himmels donnernd mit den Wolken, so flammt dir hell des Soma Strom, o Indra.
Sie kam aus dem Inneren des fernsten Berges her, sie entdeckte die irgendwo in der Höhle befindlichen Kühe. Wie der Blitz mit den Wolken vom Himmel donnernd so läutert sich für dich, Indra, des Somas Erguß.
Эта явилась изнутри отдаленнейшей скалы.
Она обнаружила коров, бывших где-то в пещере.
Гремя, словно молния с тучами неба,
Струя сомы очищается для тебя, о Индра.
उ॒त स्म॑ रा॒शिं परि॑ यासि॒ गोना॒मिन्द्रे॑ण सोम स॒रथं॑ पुना॒नः । पू॒र्वीरिषो॑ बृह॒तीर्जी॑रदानो॒ शिक्षा॑ शचीव॒स्तव॒ ता उ॑प॒ष्टुत् ॥
उ॒त । स्म॒ । रा॒शिम् । परि॑ । या॒सि॒ । गोना॑म् । इन्द्रे॑ण । सो॒म॒ । स॒ऽरथ॑म् । पु॒ना॒नः । पू॒र्वीः । इषः॑ । बृ॒ह॒तीः । जी॒र॒दा॒नो॒ इति॑ जीरऽदानो । शिक्ष॑ । स॒ची॒ऽवः॒ । तव॑ । ताः । उ॒प॒ऽस्तुत् ॥
उत स्म अपि च खलु हे सोम पुनानः पूयमानः गोनां गवां राशिं समूहं पणिभिरपहृतं परि यासि परिगच्छसि । कथंभूतः सन् उच्यते । इन्द्रेण सह सरथम् एकमेव रथमास्थाय । हे जीरदानो क्षिप्रदान सोम उपस्तुत् उपस्तूयमानस्त्वं पूर्वीः बह्वीः बृहतीः महतीः इषः उक्तलक्षणान्यन्नानि शिक्ष देहि । हे शचीवः अन्नवन् ताः इषः तव स्वभूता इति शेषः ॥ ॥२३॥
“And being purified, Soma, you pursue the herd of (stolen) cattle in the same chariot with Indra; O you who give quickly, give (us) when invoked plural ntiful and abundant viands, for they are your (property) O you who abound in food.”
Cleansing thyselr, and borne along with Indra, Soma, thou goest round the herd of cattle.
May thy praise help us, Mighty One, prompt Giver, to the full ample food which thou bestowest.
And now while being purified, Soma, you drive around a throng of cows in the same chariot with Indra,
and around many lofty refreshments, you of lively drops. Do your best, able one. These (refreshments? verses?) are your invitatory praise.
Und, Soma, du durchfährst die Schar der Kühe mit Indra du auf gleichem Wagen, strahlend, O starker, spende viele grosse Schätze in reichem Strome, dir sind sie zur Hand ja.
Und du holest die Menge der Kühe ein, mit Indra auf gleichem Wagen, o Soma, wann du dich läuterst. Suche uns, o du Raschgebender, Vermögender, viele große Labsale zu erwirken! Dein sind diese Lobpreisungen.
А также ты догоняешь массу коров,
О сома, с Индрой на одной колеснице, когда тебя очищают.
Пожелай наградить (нас) многими мощными усладами,
О быстродающий обладатель силы! Твои эти восхваления!
